Ruby M. Futrell
COMO - Ruby Mae Futrell, 84, a native of Hertford County, died December 23, 2001, at Guardian Care Nursing Home.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Parker’s Grove Baptist Church, Mapleton, by the Rev. Hugene Fields.
Burial will be in Carver Park. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Murfreesboro, is in charge.
She was a member of Parker’s Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Sarah Davis
AHOSKIE - Sarah Davis, 84, a native of Cofield, died December 21, 2001.
A funeral was conducted Monday at Hunter’s Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie, by the Rev. James R. Wiggins.
Burial was in the Vaughan family cemetery, Cofield.
Survivors include four brothers, Archie Lassiter of Gates, Daniel Lassiter of Cofield, Norman and Willie Lassiter, both of Ahoskie; and four sisters, Hattie Combs of Petersburg, Va., Emma Ward of Ahoskie, Carrie Reid and Wilma Askew, both of Cofield.
Elizabeth C. Grant
GARYSBURG - Elizabeth "Libby Dear" Clemmer Grant, 75, a native of Dallas, died December 21, 2001, at University of North Carolina Memorial Hospital.
A funeral was conducted Monday at Lebanon United Methodist Church by the Rev. Gene Hadden and the Rev. Carol Noy.
Burial was in the Grant family cemetery, Garysburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to "The Libby Grant Scholarship Fund, " c/o Halifax Community College, Weldon, NC, or the Youth Fund of The Lebanon United Methodist Church, Garysburg, NC.
Mrs. Grant was active in the schools of Northampton County, the Girl Scouts, the 4-H Club, NC, Cotton Wives, Farm Bureau and the Gaston Homemakers Club.
She as also a former Roanoke Valley "Mother of the Year" and a recipient of the NC Ambassador of Agriculture.
Survivors include her husband, Marshall Wood Grant; a daughter, Sue G. Allen of Raleigh; a son, David Marshall Grant of Garysburg; a brother, Willie Rufus Clemmer Jr. of Lake Jackson, Texas; and five grandchildren.
Ruth W. Parker
JACKSON - Ruth Whitehead "Connie" Parker, died December 21, 2001 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
A graveside service was conducted Sunday at Jackson Cemetery by the Rev. Joe McLean and the Rev. Billy Howell.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Research, P.O. Box 5084, Greenville, N.C. 27835.
Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, was in charge.
Mrs. Parker was employed by the Northampton County Board of Education as the secretary for the Superintendent of Schools for 41 years.
Survivors include her husband, John H. Parker; a daughter, Sandra P. Beale of Jackson; a son, John H. Parker Jr.; a sister, Margaret W. Ford of Richmond, Va.; and two granddaughters.
Brenda W. Long
RALEIGH - Brenda Willis Long, 61, died December 23, 2001, at Rex Hospital.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Davis First Baptist Church by the Rev. Barry Lemons.
Burial will be in the Willis family cemetery.
Munden Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Morehead City, is in charge.
She attended Chowan College from 1959-61 and was on the Chowan College Touring Choir.
Survivors include a daughter, Kim Poirier of Raleigh; a sister, Diane Willis of Raleigh; two brothers, Roddy Willis of Sea Level and Dr. Kerry Willis of Morehead City; and a grandchild.
Pattie Armstrong
GATES - Pattie Armstrong, 78, died December 24, 2001, in Greensboro.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Gladys C. Vaughan
CONWAY - Gladys C. Vaughan, 74, a native of Franklin County, died December 25, 2001.
She was the widow of Johnnie W. Vaughan.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Jackson Cemetery by the Rev. Richard Gaskins.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, from 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday and other times at the home of her son, David Jackson, Rt. 1, Jackson.
Survivors include daughters, Elizabeth V. Wheeler of Rich Square and Sandra V. Barnes of Conway; a son, David Vaughan of Jackson; five sisters, Edith Lassiter of Rich Square, Vivian Vaughan of Jackson, Carol Vaughan of Swan Quarter, Pansy Salsa of Louisburg and Janice Canfield of Wilson; a brother, Jimmy Cone of Kinston; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Doris Boone
WOODLAND - Doris Boone, 62, a native of Northampton County, died December 25, 2001, at Halifax Memorial Hospital.
A funeral will be conducted at Jerusalem Baptist Church, Woodland.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was retired from Holloman Sausage Co. and a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Willie R. Warren Jr. of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Belinda C. Warren of Forestville, Md.; her mother, Pauline G. Harrell of Conway; three sisters, Dorothy Perrine of Washington, Margarie Perrine and Lorraine Lassiter, both of Conway; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Eulah M. Taylor
BALTIMORE, Md. - Eulah M. Taylor, 70, died December 22, 2001.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Rocky Mount.
Burial will be in Stoney Creek Cemetery. Tri-State Funeral Home, Baltimore, is in charge.
WHITAKERS - Mary Slade, 87, died December 24, 2001, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

Alice C. Hill
NORFOLK, Va. - Alice Cutchins Hill, 74, a native of Como, died Dec. 18, 2001, at BSDMC.
A funeral was conducted Friday at the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home and Crematory by the Rev. Lawrence Stevens.
Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Hill was a member of Ferebee-Halstead Memorial United Methodist Church, Norfolk, for 37 years where she was active in with the Senior Citizens Group and the Marjorie Tyson Circle.
She was also active with the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 4, the Women's Auxiliary of the ADBC-American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor, Virginia Chapter, and the local chapter of the American Ex-POW.
Survivors include her husband, Edward L. Hill; a daughter, Gloria Spain of Virginia Beach; two sons, Freddie Hill of Chatham and Michael Hill of Midlothian; three brothers, Frank Porter of Texas, Raymond Etheridge of Chesapeake and James Long of Pennsylvania; eight sisters, Catherine Stephenson of Windsor, Marion Swindell of North Carolina, Kate Madden of Florida, Elizabeth Sadler Palmyra, Betty Throckmorton of Richmond, Bertha Baugus of Alaska, Millie Butner of North Carolina and Rebecca Mercer of Florida; her stepmother, Ruth C. Edwards of Petersburg; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
