Mary B. Horton
SUFFOLK, Va. - Mary Brinkley Horton, 73, a native of Suffolk, died August 13, 2001.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Great Fork Baptist Church by the Rev. Jonathan Judy and the Rev. Cameron Currin. Burial will be in the church cemetery. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home is in charge. Memorial donations may be made to Great Fork Baptist Church, 180 Great Fork Road, Suffolk, Va. 23434.
Mrs. Horton was a member of Great Fork Baptist Church, the Ruth Bible Class and the Keenagers Club of the church.
Survivors include her husband, Elliott Robertson Horton; daughters, Mary H. Harvell of Williamsburg, Robin H. Forbus of Chesapeake, Carla H. Cage III of Lexington; a sister, Mataline B. Savage of Sunbury; two brothers, Ryland Brinkley and Thomas Brinkley, both of Suffolk; and five grandchildren.
Stanley W. Lassiter
CONWAY - Stanley Winborne "S.W." Lassiter, 65, a native of Northampton County, died August 14, 2001, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Potecasi Baptist Church by the Rev. Johnny Richards. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc., Conway, from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and have requested that any memorial gifts be made to Potecasi Baptist Church, Hwy. 35, Potecasi, NC, 27867.
Lassiter was a farmer and poultry producer and was a member of Potecasi Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Alene Futrell Lassiter.
Marvin Elroy Stanley
HAMPTON, Va. - Marvin Elroy Stanley, died August 15, 2001, at Hampton Sentara Hospital.

Janet G. Moir
WOODLAND - Janet Griffin Moir, a native of Northampton County, died August 14, 2001, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie. She was the widow of Dix Blackburn Moir.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at New Hope United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jo Hancock. Entombment will be in Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Rich Square. Memorial donations may be made to New Hope United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 767, Jackson, NC, 27845. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday and will assemble at the church at 10:45 a.m. Friday prior to services. Garrett Funeral Home, Rich Square, is in charge.
Mrs. Moir was a retired teacher and principal. She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, Lasker; member of Pendleton Easter Star Chapter #13 and a member of the Kirby Music Club. She was also a graduate of UNC Greensboro and was editor of the college yearbook and was presented at the Debutante Ball in 1940.
Survivors include numerous cousins.
Katie B. Bell
WINDSOR - Funeral services for Katie Bertha Bell, who died Dec. 5, 2001, was held Sunday at Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel.
Alice R. Eason
SUNBURY - Alice Riddick Eason, 92, a native of Gates County, died December 7, 2001, at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk. She was the widow of W.A. "Buster" Eason.
A funeral was conducted Monday at Sandy Cross Baptist Church by the Rev. E. Vernon Gilmer Jr. and Rev. Michael Brinkley. Burial was in Damascus Church Cemetery, Sunbury. Miller Funeral Home was in charge. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Gates County or Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad.
Mrs. Eason was a homemaker, a member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church, its WMU and Senior Adults Sunday School class.
Survivors include three daughters, Beryl Hale and Florence Byrd, both of Suffolk and Nell M. Eason of Sunbury; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
James DeLoatche Sr.
CHESAPEAKE, Va. - James W. "Jack" DeLoatche Sr., 84, a native of Creeksville, died Dec. 7, 2001, in a local hospital.
A funeral was conducted Monday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home by the Rev. Rob Vincent. Burial was in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
DeLoatche was retired from Ford Motor Co. after 26 years as an electrician and was a member of United Auto Workers.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret A. DeLoatche; a daughter, Jacqueline E. Fitzpatrick of Montclair; a son, James Wilbur DeLoatche Jr. of Virginia Beach; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Kenneth Gillespie Sr.
AHOSKIE - Kenneth Claude Gillespie Sr., 73, a native of Rockingham County, died December 5, 2001, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk, Va., by the Rev. Rodney Holloman with military honors. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie.
Gillespie was retired from John Deere and had worked the past eight years for Wal-Mart as a greeter. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII.
Survivors include his wife, Gracie Jones Gillespie; two daughters, Donna Milteer of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Cheryl Adams of Windsor; two sons, Kenneth C. Gillespie Jr. of Oklahoma and Howard M. Gillespie of Ahoskie; three sisters, Joann Santie of St. Petersburg, Geraldine Wall of South Carolina and Brenda Jones of Clearwater; a brother, Tony Gillespie of Reidsville; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Linwood G. Sanford
WINDSOR - Linwood Graham Sanford, 91, died December 6, 2001, at Bertie Memorial Hospital. He was the widower of Pearl Byrum Sanford.
A funeral was conducted Sunday at Siloam Baptist Church by the Rev. Preston Jernigan and Dr. Christopher Lee. Burial was in Edgewood Cemetery. Flowers are welcome or memorials can be made to: Bertie County Rescue Squad, PO Box 74, Windsor, NC, 27983. Walker Funeral Home was in charge.
Sanford was a retired Master Carpenter who worked for the local mills and then in his later years for himself. He was also a member of Siloam Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary S. Hoggard of Windsor; a son, Robert L. Sanford of Hickory; three brothers, George E. Sanford of Norfolk, Va., Jessie H. Sanford of Georgia and Harvey R. Sanford of Windsor; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Ulysses Cooper
WINDSOR - Ulysses Cooper, 100, a native of Bertie County, died December 8, 2001, at the Brian Center, Windsor.

Eva C. Clark
AHOSKIE - Eva Christine Clark, 61, a native of Bertie County, died December 9, 2001, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Ahoskie Free Will Baptist Church by the Rev. Rodney Holloman. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens. Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, is in charge.
Mrs. Clark was a day care worker with Ahoskie Christian Day C are and a member of Ahoskie Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, John William Clark; two sisters, Ruby Jernigan of Ahoskie and Alice Harrison of Woodland; and two brothers, Johnnie Hoggard of Elizabeth City and Lewis Hoggard of Murfreesboro.
