POTECASI - Roger Woodard, 91, a native of Northampton County, died October 24, 2001.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Potecasi Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday and other times at the home of his son, Ben Woodard, Milwaukee, N.C.
Woodard was a retired farmer and carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Martin Woodard; two daughters, Doris W. Early of Roxobel and Elizabeth W. Cale of Ahoskie; two sons, Thomas Woodard of Suffolk, Va., and Cory Benjamin "Ben" Woodard of Potecasi; a sister, Nellie Bridgers of Lasker; two brothers, David Woodard of Jackson and Gurney Woodard of Milwaukee; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Alice C. Mitchell
AULANDER - Alice Chamblee Mitchell, a native of Hertford County, died October 22, 2001, at Britthaven Nursing Home, Edenton.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Elm Grove Baptist Church, Aulander.

Survivors include four nieces.

COLERAIN - Vassie Perry, died October 24, 2001, at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

AHOSKIE – Christine Wright Bond, 80, of Hexalena Road, Ahoskie, died Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 23, 2012 at Conoconary Missionary Baptist Church, Aulander.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Windsor.

Billie L. Daniels

AHOSKIE – Billie Lee Daniels, age 65, of the 700 block of US 158, died Saturday, June 19, 2010, at UHS Inpatient Hospice Care in Greenville.
Mr. Daniels was born in Hertford County on November 22, 1944, a son of the late Walter Glenn Daniels, Sr. and Bular Brown Daniels.
He was an active member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, serving in many capacities and on many committees, including Deacon, Treasurer, and Grounds committee.
He was retired as a salesman for Flowers Bakery and as a corrections officer with Rivers Correctional Institute.
Billie also had a lawn service business, serving many local people with grass cutting and other services.
He was an avid gardener and enjoyed his skills as a woodworker.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Lana Martin Daniels of the home; a daughter, Sherry Daniels Duncan and her husband, Joseph Duncan; and their sons, Lee Anderson Duncan and Joshua Brock Duncan all of Margaretsville, NC.
He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Daniels Vann of Conway, NC, and Dale Daniels Garris of Murfreesboro, NC; and a brother, John Roger Daniels of Murfreesboro, NC.
Besides his parents, Billie was predeceased by a brother, Walter Glenn Daniels, Jr.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church with the Rev. Wint Hale and the Rev. Dr. J. Brabban officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Garrett-Jones Funeral Home from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Monday, and other times at the home.

Margaret Elizabeth Hamlin Johnson

Margaret Elizabeth Hamlin Johnson, 98, passed away in her home of natural causes in the presence of her Lord in the morning of June 24, 2010.
She was born November 5, 1911 in Wakefield, VA to her parents Charles Thomas (Tom) Hamlin, Sr. and Margaret Anne Savedge Hamlin.
She was the second child of two brothers and two sisters, the late Mary Virginia Hamlin, the late Charles Thomas Hamlin, Jr. and is survived by Richard William (Bill) Hamlin of Astor, Florida and Rosalie Anne Hamlin Parrot of Midland, Texas.
While attending Duke University for nursing, she met the late F. Roy Johnson Sr. who she married in 1933.
After living in Surry, VA, a few years, they moved with the two oldest children, Mary Anne and Frank to Murfreesboro where Roy bought a newspaper business.
In Murfreesboro, they had their third child, Charles where Margaret lived out her years.
Roy sold the newspaper business and started writing and printing books in 1960.
Margaret enjoyed writing and helped proof many of her husband’s books until his death in 1988.
She was a devoted member of the Murfreesboro United Methodist Church, and an active member of the Murfreesboro Women’s Club.
She also continued to support Roy’s work after his death through the North Carolina Folk Lore Association and Murfreesboro Historical Association.
She is survived by children Mary Anne Johnson of Goldsboro, NC, Charles William Johnson of Murfreesboro, NC, and her daughter-in-law, Mabel Johnson, the widow of the late Frank R. Johnson, Jr. of Wakefield, VA.
She is survived by grandchildren F. Mark Johnson of Wakefield, VA, Neil H. Johnson and wife Crystal of Raleigh, NC, and Roy W. Johnson of Raleigh, NC.
Margaret enjoyed her two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Miranda.
Special thank-you to the nursing staff that provided "Miss Margaret" with home care so that she could live out her days at home where she wanted to be.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Murfreesboro United Methodist Church, 313 West High Street, with the Rev. Arthur Warren officiating.
Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the church.

James Jarman Tickel
ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Mr. James Jarman Tickel, 74, of 1029 Washington St., Roanoke Rapids, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, at his residence.
Mr. Tickel was born in Roanoke Rapids, the son of the late John Edward Tickel and Effie Matthews Tickel.
He attended North Carolina State University and was an United States Army veteran.
He was formerly employed with the U.S. Merchant Marine as a radio operator.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Susie Tickel of Roanoke Rapids; a sister, Priscilla Tickel Wood of Roanoke Rapids; a brother, Jove Carlton Tickel of Arlington, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 16 at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, with the Rev. Thomas L. Sweeley officiating.

Pauline Hopkins Daniel
LITTLETON -- Pauline Hopkins Daniel entered into eternal rest and peace Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
She was born on Aug. 6, 1923, in Halifax County, the daughter of the late Tommy and Bessie Carter Hopkins.
Her formal education was received in the public schools of Halifax County, and she joined Springfield Baptist Church during her early life and remained in membership until her demise.
On April 5, 1941, she was united in marriage to the late Lewis Stafford Daniel.
God blessed this union with 10 children.
She was preceded in death by a son and daughter, Louis Daniel Jr. and Gwendolyn Elaine Daniel.
Her spirit lives today and forever more in the hearts of her four sons, James "Doug" Daniel of the home, and Arthur Daniel, Stafford (Elizabeth) Daniel, and Curtis (Shirley) Daniel, all of Roanoke Rapids; four daughters, Parthenia Simmons and Linda Alston of Roanoke Rapids, Betty Johnson of Littleton, and Vivian Daniel of Rocky Mount; one sister, Louise (Jessie) Eaton of Baltimore, Md.; 27 grandchildren; 44 great-great-children; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 15 at Springfield Baptist Church in Littleton, with the Rev. John Rooks, pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Robinson Funeral Home in Littleton is handling the arrangements, where the body will repose until 8:30 p.m., today, Sept. 14, and then for one hour prior to the service at the church.

WHITAKERS -- Funeral arrangements are incomplete and being handled by Hilliard Funeral Home in Whitakers, for Willie Basemore Jr., 53, who died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount.
Joe Raby "Red' Tripp
HALIFAX -- Joe Raby "Red" Tripp, 75, of 8357 Hwy. 903, Halifax, died today, Sept. 14, 2001, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
Mr. Tripp was a member of Quankie Baptist Church.
He is survived by two brothers, George A. Tripp of Roanoke Rapids, and Jess Tripp of Petersburg, Va.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 16 at Quankie Baptist Church, with the Rev. Frank Stansbury and the Rev. Jerry Boyd officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Hockaday Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 15, and other times at the home of George Tripp, 79 Madge Lane, Roanoke Rapids.
