EBONY, Va. -- Oliver Grant of Ebony, Va., formerly of Roanoke Rapids, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001.
Mr. Grant was the owner of Weed Tiger Inc. and was a Korean Conflict Navy veteran.
He is survived by his fiance', Mary Ann Johnson of Ebony, and her two daughters, Leigh and Kindra Clarke; a son, William L. Grant of Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, Tina and Joni Grant, both of Virginia Beach, Va.; and five grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 8 at Prospect United Methodist Church in Ebony.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Ethel Mae Alston Dempsey, 77, of Washington, D.C., a native of Whitakers, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 8 at St. John Baptist Church in Red Oak, with the Rev. Thurman Royster officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

ST. THOMAS, Virgin Islands -- Mr. Gene Arthur Powell, 57, of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, died Friday, Sept. 31, 2001.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 8 at Cedar Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Herbert Scott officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

LITTLETON -- Mr. Robert Leroy Dunston, 68, of 554 Bacon Rd., Littleton, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
Robinson Funeral Home in Littleton is handling the arrangements, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 8, in the chapel, with the Rev. Linda Foster officiating.
Burial will follow in the Bonds Family Cemetery, located on Bacon Rd. in Littleton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m., today, Sept. 7 at the funeral home.
Frank Kirby
HENRICO -- Mr. Frank Kirby, 83, of 215 Cherokee Trail, Henrico, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001.
Mr. Kirby was the son of the late John Kuntz and Antonia Balek Kuntz.
He was a scout leader and was very active for many years in the Boy Scouts of America.
He was also a former member of the Wildwood Roanoke Fire Department and a World War II Marine veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Kirby; one daughter, Mary K. Krause and her husband, Philip, of Cary; three sons, William Kirby and his wife, Corinne, of Jenson Beach, Fla., Robert Kirby and his wife, Lisa, of Hyde Park, N.Y., and Edward Kirby and Robin of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren, Bill Kirby, Christopher Kirby, Kelli-Anne Kirby, Ryan Kirby, Jessica Krause, Deborah Krause, Anna Marie Krause, Robert Kirby, Bridget Kirby and Joseph Kirby.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 8 at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, with Father Mark Bettie and Mosignor James Keaney officiating.
Askew Funeral Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the Rosary will be held at 7 p.m., today, Sept. 7.
The family will receive friends immediately following the Rosary until 8:30 p.m.

LITTLETON -- Funeral arrangements are incomplete and being handled by Blaylock Funeral Home in Littleton, for Wilton Browning, who died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at Springmoore Retirement Community in Raleigh.
Myrtle Wallace Wells Wheeler
ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Myrtle Wallace Wells Wheeler, 89, of Roanoke Rapids, was born on Aug. 13, 1912, and died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at her home.
She is survived by three sisters, Leona Carlyle, Doris Knight and Olive Kulesa, all of Roanoke Rapids; her children, Gaius David Wells and his wife, Hazel, and their children, Teresa Skinner, Rebecca Spurlin, Donna Haskins, David Wells and Bruce Wells; Ollie Wells Bennett and her children, Debra Jordan and Jay Bennett; Edna Wells Miles and her husband, Douglas, and their children, Susan Miles Ogburn and Richard "Buzzy" Miles; and Helen Wells Crawford and her husband, Cecil, and their children, Cecilia Taylor, Brenda Hutton and Dennis Crawford; and 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 8 at Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon, with the Rev. John Mark Harrell officiating.

AHOSKIE -- Mr. Robert Harrell Brantley, 76, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at Guardian Care Nursing Home in Ahoskie.
Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 8 at Highland Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Ahoskie, with the Rev. Tommy Kiker and the Rev. Bob Skeens officiating.

LITTLETON -- Marcia Fay Main, 67, of Littleton, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
She was an LGLC member of Tanglewood ladies golf (greenthumbs, bookers, crafts and golf).
She was born in Beltsville, Md.
She is survived by her husband, James E. Main; two sons, Jeffrey Main and his wife, Becky, of Frederick, Md., and Jay Main and his wife, Suzanne, of Portsmouth, Va.; one granddaughter, Jenny Main Rodriguez; one grandson, Joseph Main; and one great-granddaughter, Kelly Rodriguez.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 6 at Frederick Church of the Brethern in Frederick, Md.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, Oct. 5 at Keeney Basford Funeral Home in Frederick, Md.
