ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Funeral arrangements are incomplete and being handled by Hockaday Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, for William H. Barnes of Roanoke Rapids, who died today, Oct. 1, 2001, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
Lena Harris Casper
ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Mrs. Lena Harris Casper, 63, of 115 Clearfield Drive, Apt. 33, Roanoke Rapids, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001.
Mrs. Casper was born on June 29, 1938, the daughter of the late Julian Lister Harris and Lillian Irene Moore Harris of Halifax County.
She was the widow of Clarence Rayburn Casper and was a member of Open Door Fellowship Church.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Judith Elaine Stokes and Leila Patricia Casper.
She is survived by two daughters, Leila Griffin and her husband, Darrell, and Linda Clarke and her husband, Rodney, all of Roanoke Rapids; two sons, Gary Casper and his wife, Connie, of Roanoke Rapids, and Mike Casper and his wife, Jackie, of Gaston; three sisters, Phyllis Casper and her husband, Jerry, of Gaston, Jan Coggins of Roanoke Rapids, and Kathy Pomerenke and her husband, Rick, of Minnesota; one brother, Julian "Buck" Harris and his wife, Margaret, of Louisburg; two grandchildren, Megan Griffin and Allie Casper; and several nieces and nephews.
Askew Funeral Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2 in the chapel, with the Rev. Russ Collins officiating.
Burial will follow in Crestview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., today, Oct. 1 at the funeral home, and other times at the home.
Robert Hunter Daughtrey Sr.
HENDERSON -- Mr. Robert Hunter Daughtrey Sr., 72, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at Burnette's Retirement Home in Louisburg.
Massey Funeral Home in Aulander is handling the arrangements, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 1 in the chapel.
Burial will follow in the Ahoskie Cemetery in Ahoskie.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., today, Sept. 30, at the funeral home.
Mamie Alston
RALEIGH -- Mrs. Mamie Alston of Raleigh, a native of Halifax County, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29 at Antioch Baptist Church in Scotland Neck.
The Rev. Ronald Dolberry officiated.
Burial followed in Staton Memorial Cemetery.
Lionel Whidbee Funeral Home in Scotland Neck handled the arrangements.
Sandra Letitia White
MONTCLAIR, Va. -- Sandra Letitia White, 44, of Montclair, Va., died suddenly, Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001.
She was the beloved wife of Col. Oscar N. White Jr., U.S. Army, retired; devoted mother of Oscar N. III and Jonathan A. White; daughter of Aaron and Gloria Murray; and the sister of Curtis, Aaron Jr., Maj. Gloria Murray and Connie Harris.
She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 5 at First Mount Zion Baptist Church, 16622 Dumfries Rd., Dumfries, Va., with the Rev. Dr. Luke Torian officiating.
Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be forwarded in the name of Sandra L. White, "So Others Might Eat Inc.,"

Nellie Rickman Birdsong
ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Nellie Rickman Birdsong, 90, of 1904 Willow St., Roanoke Rapids, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
Mrs. Birdsong was a lifelong member of South Rosemary United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Bonnie Smith Rickman; and one son, H.A. Hayes.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Clarence "Biggie" Birdsong; one son, Billy Hayes and his wife, Ann; one granddaughter, Connie H. Allen and her husband, William; three great-granddaughters, Tracee A. Williams, Tanya A. Brown and her husband, Ryan, and Summer Allen; one great-great-granddaughter, Heather Rene' Williams; and a special cousin, Mildred Stokes.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Rickman.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 30 at South Rosemary United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Chris Humphries officiating.
Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Rosemary United Methodist Church, c/o Treasurer of SRU, 1931 Willow St., Roanoke Rapids.

Linwood Calvin "Kakie" Williams
AULANDER -- Linwood Calvin "Kakie" Williams, 76, died at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie on Friday, Sept. 28, 2001.
Funeral services will be held at the Connaritsa Baptist Church in Aulander at 4 p.m.
Burial will follow the service at the Aulander Cemetery.
The Rev. Allan Mizelle and the Rev. Danny Steyne are officiating.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander today from 7-9 p.m.

ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Funeral arrangements are incomplete and are being handled by Cofield Funeral Home in Weldon, for Ruth Daniel, of 1913 Roanoke Ave., who died Saturday, Sept. 28. 2001, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
William Hilliard
ROCKY MOUNT -- William Hilliard, 66, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount.
Funeral services will be held today, Oct. 1, at 3:30 p.m.
The Rev. Charles C. Whitaker is officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Walter Curtis Sykes
GARYSBURG -- Walter Curtis Sykes, 89, departed his life on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at the Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
Eulogistic services will take place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Garysburg.
The Rev. Joseph Battle will be officiating.
Internment will follow in the Roanoke Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Garysburg.
The family will receive friends at the home of Ms. Tosca Townes in Garysburg.
