Emma Dean Edmonds Hawkins
LITTLETON -- Emma Dean Edmonds Hawkins was called home by God to eternal rest and peace on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Va., after a brief illness.
She was born on April 20, 1937, in Littleton, the daughter of Rebecca Edmonds Fields and the late Willie Edmonds.
During her early life, she confessed Christ and sought spiritual guidance as a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Littleton.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Ernest Hawkins.
God blessed this union with five children, two of which preceded her in death.
After relocating to Norfolk, Va., she became employed with Dobb International Service Inc. and retired in 1999, with over 30 years of service.
She was a loving, caring person who never met a stranger, and was also a devoted mother, grandmother and friend.
Her spirit lives today and forever more in the hearts of her mother, Rebecca Fields of Littleton; her five children, Carolyn Sherley of Louisville, Ky., and Ella (Man) Owens, Brenda and Kettrel Hawkins, and David Jones, all of Norfolk, Va.; three sisters, Lizzie Fields and Ernestine (Robert) Copeland of Littleton, and Lillie (Eddie) Perry of Roanoke Rapids; five brothers, Fred Fields Jr. of Roanoke Rapids, and Charlie Lee, John Henry, James Perkins and Oswell Calvin Fields, all of Littleton; 21 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Littleton, with the Rev. Jimmie Lowe, pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Robinson Funeral Home in Littleton is handling the arrangements, where the body will repose until 8:30 p.m., today, Sept. 25, and then for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Chase Channing Rhodes
Loving son, brother and grandson
ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Chase Channing Rhodes, 18, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
Chase was born on June 27, 1983, in Roanoke Rapids.
He graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School and was attending Halifax Community College as a full-time student and also worked at Texas Steakhouse.
He was a member of Rosemary United Methodist Church.
His love of life and concern for people endeared him to all that knew him.
Our community is blessed and is a much better place because he was a part of it.
He is survived by his parents, David Bryan Rhodes and A. Dee Driver Rhodes of the home; his brothers, Hayes and Bryce Rhodes, both of the home; his paternal grandparents, David and Sue Rhodes of Roanoke Rapids; his maternal grandparents, M.C. and Barbara Driver of Emporia, Va.; his great-grandmother, Billie Barksdale of Tarboro; his uncles, Earl Driver and his wife, Susan, of Midlothian, Va., Morris Driver and his wife, Lynn, of Capron, Va., Glenn Driver and his wife, Gina, of Roanoke Rapids, and Greg Driver of Emporia, Va.; an aunt, Leslie Ezzelle and her husband, Glenn, of Roanoke Rapids; many cousins; and a dear special person in his life, Heather Mariner of Jackson.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 25 at Rosemary United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Thomas Sweeley officiating.
Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Sweeley and the Rev. Sam Dixon officiating.
Wrenn Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., today, Sept. 24.
Contributions may be made in the name of Chase Rhodes to Rosemary United Methodist Church, 900 Jackson St., Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.

AHOSKIE -- Mr. Ernest Clarence Morris Sr., 80, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., today, Sept. 24 at Earlys Baptist Church in Ahoskie, with the Rev. Ronald McSwain officiating.
Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie.

AULANDER -- Mr. Troy Wilson Cox Sr., 73, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at the Veterans Hospital in Durham.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 25 at St. John's Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in the Aulander Cemetery in Aulander.

HALIFAX -- Johnie Wade, 97, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26 at Smith Chapel Baptist Church in Enfield, with the Rev. Robert C. Farmer officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
