HALIFAX -- Deacon Johnnie Wade, 97, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
Funeral arrangements, which are incomplete, are being handled by J.L. Williams and Sons Funeral Service in Enfield.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Funeral arrangements are incomplete and being handled by Faison Funeral Home in Seaboard for Mr. John A. Kee, who died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, in Staten Island, N.Y.
Robert Thomas Oliver Sr.
Devoted husband, father and grandfather
ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Mr. Robert Thomas Oliver Sr., 66, of Roanoke Rapids, was called into the presence of the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001.
Mr. Oliver was retired from Champion International Paper Company with 39 years of service. He was a former employee of The Federal Bureau of Investigation. Thomas, a devoted family man, made great contributions to the American Red Cross and was instrumental in establishing the Gallon Club of which he had given in excess of 30 gallons. In 1994 he was awarded the Melvin T. Blassingham Jr. Award for a Distinguished Volunteer of the American Red Cross, Mid Atlantic Region. He was the recipient of the 1998 Governors Volunteer Award.
He was preceded in death by his father, William F. Oliver.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lillian Lancaster Oliver of the home; two children, Robert T. Oliver Jr. (Butch) and his wife, Lisa, and Keith N. Oliver and his wife, Dean; his mother, Essie Oliver Ivey of Pinewood Manor Resthome in Ahoskie; his brothers, Willard Oliver and his wife, Erlene, and Charles Oliver and his wife, Ann, all of Roanoke Rapids, and Billy Oliver and his wife, Betsy, of Gambrills, Md.; his sisters, Mildred Tippett and her husband, Lloyd, of Washington, N.C., and Margaret Draper and her husband, Wilborne, of Roanoke Rapids; his grandchildren, "the apples of his eye," Sara, Tommy, Corey and Laura Oliver, all of Roanoke Rapids; his brothers-in-law, Sankey Lancaster and his wife, Vickie, Leroy Lancaster, Donald Lancaster, and Ronald Lancaster and his wife, Robin; his sisters-in-law, Martha L. Mullen, Shirley Powell and her husband, J.D., and Alice Darlington and her husband, Jimmy; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., today, Sept. 23 at Good News Baptist Church, where Thomas was a member. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross.

Thomas Neal "Thom' Dixon Jr.
SCOTLAND NECK -- Mr. Thomas Neal "Thom" Dixon Jr., 46, passed into eternal rest Monday, Sept. 17, 2001.
Mr. Dixon was preceded in death by his parents, Sonny and Do Do Dixon; and a niece, Julianne Marciante.
He is survived by his sisters, Linda D. Lilley and Rochellia Cox, both of Scotland Neck, and Carol Ann Marciante of Richmond, Va.; a niece, Andrea Gaskill of Richmond, Va.; two nephews, Jason Lilley of Rocky Mount, and Heath Lilley of Roanoke Rapids; and six grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Church of the Advent in Enfield, with the Rev. Lee Powell officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., today, Sept. 21 at the home, located at 877 Sorie Town Road, Enfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Nash Health Care Systems, Curtis Ellis Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804, or to the Church of the Advent, Enfield, NC 27823.

FLORENCE, S.C. -- Mary Westbrook Waters of Florence, S.C., died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Waters is survived by her husband, Admiral Dewey Waters of the home; her daughters, Arlean of the home, and Eva Clayton of Dillon, S.C.; one son, A.D. Waters III of Columbus; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, James A. Westbrook of Roanoke Rapids; one sister, Jo Simms of Liberty; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Waters-Powell Funeral Home in Florence, S.C., is handling the arrangements, where funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 23.

Magalene Boyd Cox
PETERSBURG, Va. -- Mrs. Magalene Boyd Cox of 1536 West Lane, Petersburg, Va., a Weldon native, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va.
Mrs. Cox is survived by her husband, William "Billy" Cox of the home; her daughter, Tanesha Cox Harris of Petersburg, Va.; her son-in-law, Barry Harris of Petersburg, Va.; her granddaughter, Tova Cox Harris of Petersburg, Va.; her mother, Ida P. Boyd of Weldon; three sisters, Nelbert Deloatch, Mazel Mitchell and Bertha Boyd, all of Weldon; and one brother, Willie Boyd of Bronx, N.Y.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 22 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 418 Halifax St., Petersburg, Va.

Olivia Scott Ellis
WELDON -- Mrs. Olivia Scott Ellis of 610 Co-Op Street, Weldon, was called into the presence of the Lord, Monday, Sept. 17, 2001.
Mrs. Ellis was the wife of the late Clyde Wilson Ellis, Sr., to whom she was married 59 years.
Olivia was born in Weldon, on Oct. 13, 1927, to Adolphus and Annie Scott, now deceased.
She was a lifelong resident of Weldon and made many friends.
In her later years, she received Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and was favored to be a founding member of United Full Gospel Revival Center Church. As a faithful member, she served as the church mother.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joann Ellis-Gadson.
Treasured memories will remain with her loving family, two daughters, Nellie Ellis-Green and her husband, Alex, and Evelyn Ellis-Whitley and her husband, Albert; four sons, Clyde Ellis, Jr. and his wife, June, Dallas Ellis and his wife, Janet, Charles Ellis and his wife, Jacqueline, and Steve Ellis and his wife, Patricia; two brothers, Adolphus Scott, and William Scott and his wife, Shirley; three sisters, Jennie Burton, Dallas Fitts and Courtney Ferguson; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 22 at United Full Gospel Revival Center, Julian Allsbrook Hwy., Weldon, with Pastors Wallace and Ozalie Cherry officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Weldon.

Sidney D. Parks
BURLINGTON -- Mr. Sidney D. Parks, 82, of 2715 Dee St., Burlington, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at White Oak Manor in Burlington.
A native of Randolph County, Mr. Parks was the son of the late John Wesley and Bertha Grimes Parks.
He was a building contractor and owner of Parks Real Estate, an Army Veteran of World War II, a member of St. Mark's Reformed Church, and a member of the Burlington Homebuilder's Association.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Nancy Louise Parks; a son, Mr. Thomas Irvin "Tommy" Parks; and two brothers and a sister.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Martha Starke Parks of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Gordon "Dee" (Mary Sue) Reddick of Wilmington, and Mrs. Ronnie J. (Lynne) Duncan of Raleigh; and his beloved grandchildren, Sarah, Julia and Sam Duncan, and Daniel, Laura, Gordon and Meredith Reddick.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 22 at St. Mark's Reformed Church, with the Rev. Robert M. Disher Jr. and the Rev. Ben Bishop officiating. The family will greet friends on the church parlor following the service.

MURFREESBORO -- Ms. Dorothy Pugh, 68, departed her life Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
Ms. Pugh was the daughter of the late Will and Minnie Deloatch-Pugh, born on Oct. 25, 1932, in Northampton County.
Leaving behind to cherish her love are her sons, James and his wife, Lillian Pugh, of Murfreesboro, and Johnny Mack Pugh of Newport News, Va.; four brothers, Will Pugh of Rich Square, Clarence Pugh of Roanoke Rapids, Johnny Pugh of Washington, D.C., and Leroy Pugh of Norfolk, Va.; one sister, Lottie Brooks of Murfreesboro; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22 at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Seaboard, with the Rev. John Green officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
