Mary F. Wilson
SUNBURY - Mary Carolyn Fletcher Wilson, 59, a native of Portsmouth, Va., died November 30, 2001, in her home.
The family will have a private memorial service at a later date. The family will be at Mrs. Wilson’s residence. Harrell Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.
Mrs. Wilson was the manager of Radio Shack in Franklin.
Survivors include two daughters, Julina Cooper of Bryson City and Carol A. Howard of Hawthorne, Calif.; a son, Michael K. Wilson of Sunbury; two brothers, Robert E. Fletcher and Silas Fletcher Jr., both of Winton; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Bertha L. Williams
NORFOLK, Va. - Bertha Lee Williams, a native of Jackson, died November 27, 2001.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday at The Way of the Truth COGIC, 2322 Maltby Ave., where Pastor Wilbert McNair, is presiding. Interment will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. Riddick Funeral Service is in charge.
Mrs. Williams was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Samuel Williams Sr.; three daughters, Carolyn Darden, Bobbie Swain and Bertha Martin; four sons, Willie Williams, Nathaniel Williams, Samuel Williams and Anthony Williams; a sister, Jane Esther Benjamin; 24 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
David F. Lynch
WINDSOR - David Francis Lynch, 63, died November 30, 2001.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Windsor United Methodist Church. Walker Funeral Home is in charge.
Ethel H. Walker
PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Ethel Hazel Walker, 87, a native of Severn, died November 28, 2001, at Maryview Medical Center. She was the widow of Phillip Walker.
A funeral was conducted Monday at Emanuel AME Church by the Rev. Lonnie McClain. Burial was in Olive Branch Cemetery. Corprew Funeral Home was in charge.
Mrs. Walker was a retired self-employed private duty nurse after 10 years of service. She was a member of Emanuel AME Church, Portsmouth, former treasurer of Willing Workers Club; and former member of Messiah Lutheran, San Diego, Calif.
Survivors include three daughters, California Boone Myers of Chesapeake, Geraldine Boone Jenkins and Annette L. Walker Blevins of San Diego; two sisters, Grace Hinton and Ruth Reed, both of Portsmouth; seven grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mary B. Jenkins
LYNCHBURG, Va. - Mary Agnes Brown Jenkins, 96, a native of St. Louis, Mo., died November 27, 2001. She was the widow of the Rev. Stanleigh Edward Jenkins, former Rector of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Ahoskie.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. December 28, 2001, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Ahoskie, with Bishop Danny Daniel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina or St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Ahoskie. Tharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center is assisting the family, 434-237-9424.
Mrs. Jenkins was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
Survivors include two sons, William H. Jenkins of Lynchburg and Stanleigh E. Jenkins Jr. of Ahoskie; a sister, Barbara Henson of Franklin; and five grandchildren.
Hilma Steele
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Hilma Steele, 79, died November 29, 2001. She was the widow of William A. Steele Sr.
A memorial service was conducted Monday at Bethany Freewill Baptist Church by Pastor Fred Bates Jr. Altmeyer Funeral Home, Virginia Beach, was in charge.
Mrs. Steele was a retired school bus driver after 40 years of service for the city of Virginia Beach. She was a member of Bethany Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Delores Wynn of Virginia Beach; three sons, William A. Steele Jr. of Virginia Beach, Robert Steele of Gaston and Richard Steele of Virginia Beach; a brother, Paul Powers of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Katie Shannon
MERRY HILL - Katie Shannon, 89, a native of Merry Hill, died November 27, 2001, at Lynn Shore Manor Nursing Home, Virginia Beach, Va.
A funeral was conducted Friday at Peterson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Merry Hill, by the Rev. Lindley Joyner. Burial was in the church cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, was in charge.
Mrs. Shannon was a member of Upper Room Church of God in Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Hawkins of New York; three sisters, Sophia Roulhac Williams of Merry Hill, Beulah R. Williams of Windsor and Florence R. Chavis of Aulander; a brother, George Roulhac of Merry Hill; six grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Willie D. Gatling
MURFREESBORO - Willie Douglas Gatling, 79, a native of Hertford County, died December 2, 2001, at the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation Center.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Parker’s Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Hugene Fields. Burial will be in the Gatling family cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.
Survivors include his wife, Naomi J. Gatling; children, Douglas S. Gatling, Willie M. Gatling and Evangeline G. Moore, all of Murfreesboro; a brother and sister, Stanley Gatling of Windsor and Easter Worthington of Como; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Nancy Moore
AHOSKIE - Nancy "Sis Futrell" Moore, a native of Hertford County, died November 30, 2001, at her residence.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Aulander, by the Rev. Elbert Lee. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.
Mrs. Moore was a member of Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Moore of Manhattan, N.Y.; two sons, Christopher Moore and James Moore, both of Ahoskie; two daughters, Elsie Moore of Lewiston and Myra Moore of Ahoskie; her father, Charlie Futrell of Ahoskie; seven brothers, Thomas E. Futrell, James R. Futrell, Calvin Futrell, James A. Futrell, Roosevelt Robinson and William T. Futrell, all of Ahoskie and James C. Futrell of Aulander; and seven sisters, Thelma Futrell, Geraldine F. Sessoms and Betty Futrell, all of Ahoskie, Elizabeth Liverman of Potecasi, Malinda Futrell of Manhattan, Mary Rose Crawford and Patricia Porter, both of Gates.
William Murphy
COMO - William Murphy, died December 1, 2001, at Pitt Memorial Hospital.

George A. Davidson
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - George A. Davidson, 74, a native of Aulander, died May 18, 2002.
A graveside funeral service was conducted Wednesday at Rosewood Memorial Park. Kellum Funeral Home was in charge. Memorial contributions may be made to the Princess Anne Plaza Fire and Rescue, 3610 S. Plaza Trail, Virginia Beach, VA 23452.
Davidson retired from the Navy Reserve and NARF as an airplane engine mechanic. He was a member of London Bridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley C. Davidson; two children, Michael Davidson of Virginia Beach and Kimberly Davidson of Norfolk; a stepson, James S. Speight; a brother, James C. Davidson of Portsmouth; four sisters, Marie Lassiter of Colerain, Fannie Carlisle of Norfolk, June Culpepper of Portsmouth and Shirley Fitchett of Orange Park, Fla. and five grandchildren.
