John Yarbrough Elder
WELDON -- John Yarbrough Elder, 82, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001.
Mr. Elder was born in Cordele, Ga., on Dec. 24, 1918.
He was a retired fireman.
Mr. Elder was preceded in death by his parents, John and Susie Elder.
He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Howland and husband Ed of Tillery; cousin and devoted friend, Charles Edward Yarbrough of Blakley, Ga.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Kenneth "Kenny' Steven Bailey, II
MANTEO -- Mr. Kenneth "Kenny" Steven Bailey, II, of 836 Marshall St., died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001 in Manteo.
He was born in Roanoke Rapids and was a member of First Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Jim Bailey.
Surviving are his mother, Wanda Harris Bailey of Roanoke Rapids; father, Kenneth S. Bailey of Roanoke Rapids; maternal grandmother, Peggy Dickens Wilson of Roanoke Rapids; maternal grandfather, Bernard Harris of Roanoke Rapids; paternal grandmother, Barbara Bailey of Roanoke Rapids; sister, Jessica Kay Bailey of Roanoke Rapids; aunts, Shawn Haislip and husband, Mike, of Halifax, Debra Stanley of Roanoke Rapids and Sandy Brooks and husband, Aaron, of Pleasant Hill, Barbie Clark of Roanoke Rapids; uncles, Robbie Bailey and wife, Cindy, of Roanoke Rapids, Lynn hardy of Roanoke Rapids, Jimmy Bailey and wife, Patricia, of Roanoke Rapids; and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30 at Wrenn Funeral Home chapel with Minister Billy Meisen officiating.
Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Wrenn Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. on Monday evening at Wrenn Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today, at Cumbo Missionary Baptist church in Rich Square, with the Rev. William Powers officiating.
Interment will follow at the Parks Cemetery in Rich Square.
A viewing was Sat. Oct. 27 from 1-8 p.m. at the Lionel Whidbee Funeral Home in Rich Square, which is in charge of all arrangements.
Joseph Randolph Claud Jr.
ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Joseph Randolph Claud Jr., 80, departed this earthly life on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Claud, son of Joseph R. Claude, Sr. and Ella W. Eaton Claud, was born on Dec. 18, 1930, in Southampton County, Va.
His parents were blessed with nine children, five girls and four boys.
His formal education was received in the public schools of Southampton County, Va.
He then enlisted to serve his country in the United States Army.
After four years of active duty, he was honorably discharged with the rank of Private First Class.
In 1996, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Willie Mae Young.
God blessed this union with four stepchildren, two girls and two boys.
Those left to treasure the precious memory of his life are his devoted wife, Willie Mae Claud of the home; his stepchildren, Dorothy Briggs, Elizabeth Spencer and her husband, Earl Spencer, Nelson Young, and Elroy Young and his friend, Elise O'Bryant; two sisters, Lena Bruce of Yeador, Pa. and Mettie Church of Wilmington, Del.; his brother, Carl Claud and his wife, Thelma of Richmond, Va.; his sister-in-law, Christine Claud of Baltimore, Md.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. today, Oct. 28 at Robinson Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, at Shearins Chapel Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids with the Rev. Lynne J. Bradley officiating.
Interment will follow at the Roanoke Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Littleton.
Clarie Parnell Boykin
ROCKY MOUNT -- Clarie Parnell Boykin, 77, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001.
She was born Sept. 8, 1924, in Johnston County, daughter of the late Jerry Harves and Grace Jones Parnell.
Clarie was a retired commercial note teller at Planters Bank and a member of Edgemont Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Bottoms and a sister, Eloise Anderson.
Surviving is a daughter, JoAnne Hodges and husband Jimmy of Roanoke Rapids; son Mike Boykin and wife Gail of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Susan and Brian Hodges, Kelly Martin and Kristy Boykin; one great-grandchild, Owen Martin; brothers, Jerry Parnell Panama City, Fla. and Bill Parnell of Fuquay-Varina; sisters, Evelyn Anderson of Selma, Virginia Evans of Fayetteville, Janet Langston of Micro, Judy Worley of Pine Level, and Novenne Hoell of Rocky Mount.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 29 at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Thayer Stamper officiating.
Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m. tonight.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Edgemont Baptist Church building fund, P.O. Box 7293, Rocky Mount, N.C. 27804.
Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home of Rocky Mount is handling the arrangements.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27 at St. Matthew Baptist Church, with the Rev. Walter Cherry officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

WHITAKERS -- Funeral arrangements are incomplete and being handled by Hilliard Funeral Home in Whitakers, for Mr. Jesse F. Leake, 62, who died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount.
Judith Marshall Hearn
SCOTLAND NECK -- Judith Marshall Hearn, 40, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at Chapel Hill Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Scotland Neck Funeral Home in Scotland Neck is handling the arrangements, where funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27.
Burial will follow in the Hearn Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight, Oct. 26 at 12741 Hwy. 258.
Roger Woodard
POTECASI -- Mr. Roger Woodard, 91, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., today, Oct. 26 at the Potecasi Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of his son, Ben Woodard in Milwaukee.
Henry C. Richardson
WARRENTON -- Henry C. Richardson, 89, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at Warren Hills Nursing Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 28 at Mount Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. James "Bobby" Rudd and the Rev. Willie D. Silver officiating.
Burial will follow in the Richardson-Richardson Family Cemetery.
