E. Janie Jones
AHOSKIE - E. Janie Jones, 80, a native of Hertford County, died May 21, 2002 at Guardian Care Nursing Home. She was the widow of Paul Anderson Jones.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Highland Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Thomas Lamm. Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, is in charge.
Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and a member of Creech Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Janie Alice Taylor of Winton; and three brothers, Withey Smith of Winton, William Smith of Winston-Salem and Lloyd D. Smith of Conway.
Lettie B. Blue
ROCKY MOUNT - Lettie Bell Blue, 87, died May 20, 2002, at Nash General Hospital.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Red Budd Holy Church, Rocky Mount, by the Rev. Thomas Walker. Interment will be in Gardens of Gethsemane. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. The family will be receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.
Willie B. Outlaw
COLERAIN - Willie Bell Outlaw, 72, a native of Bertie County, died May 21, 2002, at Mary Immaculate Hospital, Newport News, Va.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wynn’s Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Thomas Lee. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Ahoskie, is in charge.
Mrs. Outlaw was a member of Wynn’s Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Leroy Outlaw; a son, Terry Holley of Middletown, Conn.; two daughters, Bettie Bond of Colerain and Ida Armstrong of Newport News; two brothers, Leon Perry of Ahoskie and Joe Perry of Hampton; a sister, Lois Vaughan of Powellsville; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy O. Knight
GATES - Dorothy Otelia Knight, 67, a native of Gates County, died Jan. 26, 2002, at her residence.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. James K. Brown. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.
Survivors include her husband, Robert C. Knight; children, David E. Knight, Sr. and Michael A. Knight, both of Gatesville, Carver E. Knight of Wolfpoint, MT, Sharion K. Boone of Gates and Brenda B. Boone of Edenton; sister, Adola Hyman of Torrance, Calif.; a brother, Authur Hall Jr. of Fayetteville; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
William S. Haste
WINDSOR - William Sidney Haste, 81, a native of Bertie County, died Jan. 25, 2002, at his home.
A graveside funeral was conducted Monday at Edgewood Cemetery by the Rev. Dennis Conner and the Rev. Jack Byrd. Military honors were observed. Walker Funeral Home was in charge. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Legion Post, 37, c/o Ira Cutrell, 704 Gatling St., Windsor, NC, 27983.
Haste was a member of Cashie Baptist Church, the American Legion Post 37, the VFW and the Cashie Cook Club. He was also a self-employed service technician and served during WWII in the Army Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Lenora Street Haste; a daughter, Brenda H. Styons of Roper; a son, Bill Haste of Durham; two sisters, Mary Haste and Margaret Haste, both of Windsor; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Amanda G. Harrell
GATESVILLE - Amanda Gail Harrell, 19, a native of Gates County, died Jan. 24, 2002.
A graveside service was conducted Sunday at Eure Christian Church Cemetery by the Rev. Gene Asbill and the Rev. Wayne Gardner. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, was in charge. Because of her love for animals we ask that you adopt a pet or make a contribution in her memory to the Roanoke-Chowan SPCA or to Eure Christian Church.
Amanda was currently a student at Roanoke-Chowan Community College and was also a part time employee with Ahoskie Animal Clinic.
Survivors include her parents, Marshall and Connie Eure Harrell; a brother, Jason Harrell of the home; her maternal grandmother, Erma D. Eure of Gatesville and her paternal grandparents, Raymond and Ethel Cale of Colerain.
Henry Wiggins
LEWISTON - Henry Wiggins, died Jan. 22, 2002.
A funeral was conducted Sunday at Springhill Baptist Church, Lewiston. Gilliam Funeral Home was in charge.
Imogene C. Pittman
CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Imogene Castello Pittman, 71, a native of Colerain, died Jan. 24, 2002. She was the widow of Richard L. Pittman Sr.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, by the Rev. Charles Moseley. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Great Bridge Baptist Church Building Fund. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Mrs. Pittman was a homemaker and a member of Great Bridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Hazel P. Todd and Susan D. Withers; two sons, Richard L. Pittman Jr. and Jesse S. Pittman; four sisters, Joni Ward of Virginia Beach, Lilly Justice and Helen Perry, both of Colerain, and Wanda Cichon of New York; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Johnnie Louise Northcott
COLERAIN - Johnnie Louise Northcott, 91, died May 13, 2002 in Brevard, NC. She was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Potter of Brevard; a son, Thomas Earl Northcott of Colerain; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., today at Mars Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Preston Jernigan officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Garrett Funeral Home of Ahoskie is handling arrangements.
Lizzie Smallwood
WINDSOR - Lizzie Smallwood, 87, died May 11, 2002 at the Brain Center in Windsor after a lengthy illness.
Survivor includes a cousin, Mamie Wiggins of Lewiston.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m., today at Cherry’s Funeral Chapel in Windsor. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation was held May 15 from 6-7 p.m. at Cherry’s Funeral Home.
Cherry’s Funeral Home of Windsor is handling arrangements.
C.B. Bennett, Jr.
NEWPORT NEWS, Va - C.B. Bennett, Jr., 74, died May 11, 2002 at Riverside Regional Medical Center. Arrangements are pending with Weymouth Funeral Home in Newport News, Va.
