The daughter of the late Ellis Clanton and Tillie Banks
BALTIMORE, Md. -- On March 12, 1941, God allowed the late Ellis Clanton and Tillie Banks to have a little girl and they named her Inell Clanton. She died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore, Md.
As a young lady growing up in the Neck area of Jackson on a farm, she loved to cook and a vegetable lover was she. Salad was one of her favorites. While in high school she met and married her sweetheart, Perkin Ramsey, and to this union two children were born. They adventured to Baltimore, Md., where they made it their home. She got a job with the University of Maryland Medical Center in the housekeeping department, where she worked for over 30 years.
Inell was a very strong woman, who could take a lot, a very lot, yet she was a devoted loving mother and father... grandmother to her family. She gave love and was loved. The backbone of the family she was. She and her sisters recently became very close and agreed that no one, they mean no one, will ever separate them and unity will always remain among them.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter, Marquise Ramsey; and her sisters and brothers, Hugar "Bud" Clanton, William Ivey Clanton, Marie Clanton-McGee-Edwards, Josie Banks-Scott, and Eugene Clanton Sr.
She lives today and forever in the lives of, as follows in chronological order: A daughter, Lossie Mae Ramsey of the home; one son, Perkins Lee Clanton of Butner; three grandchildren, James Summerville, Tiffany Ramsey and Cassandra Johnson, all of the home; two godchildren, Stacy D. Lee and Robert L. Lee Jr., both of Roanoke Rapids; four sisters, Mollie Clanton-Ramsey of Gaston, Emma Clanton-Gary (Morris) of New York City, N.Y., Martha Clanton-Wyche (Weaverly) of Sharon Hills, Pa., Betty Mae Clanton-Johnson (Pernell) of Roanoke Rapids, and Hilliard Clanton of Gaston; a very close lifetime friend, Henrietta Tate of Baltimore, Md.; many nieces and nephews, and sisters- and brothers-in-law, Otis Edwards Sr. and Beulah Clanton, both of Jackson, Beatrice Mason, Clementine and Jack Person, and John and Portia Ramsey, all of Hempstead, N.Y., Mack and Rachel Ramsey of Lake Mary, Fla., Josie and Bill Person, Ray and Dena Ramsey, and Edith Ramsey, all of Jackson, James and Lucy Ramsey, and David Ann Ramsey, all of Garysburg, Edward Ramsey and Curtis Ramsey, both of Weldon, and Faller Gatison of Baltimore, Md.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1 at Evangelistic Church of Deliverance, located on Sycamore St., Weldon, with the Senior Prelate, Elder William Henry Cheek Sr., officiating. Burial will follow in the Roanoke Salem Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Garysburg.
Coleman Funeral Home in Garysburg is handling the arrangements, where the funeral cortege will line up on Saturday prior to the funeral.

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Inell Clanton-Ramsey, 60, of 1935 N. Fulton Ave., Baltimore, Md., a native of Northampton County, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore.

L.H. "Bud' Davis
CONWAY -- Mr. L.H. "Bud" Davis, 79, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
Mr. Davis was the son of the late Romie Peter Davis and Ema Jane Deberry Davis. He was a member of Galatia Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Hargrove Davis; and several nieces and nephews and many cousins.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 29 at the Davis Family Cemetery, with the Rev. David Foster and the Rev. Lonnie Armstrong officiating.

Raymond B. Collier
MURFREESBORO -- Mr. Raymond Benjamin Collier, 90, of 509 Lakeview Drive, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Collier was a native of Garysburg. He was a graduate of Jackson High School and attended Duke University. He was a retired secretary of Northeastern Oil Company in Weldon and Murfreesboro for over 40 years, having retired in 1970. He was a member of Murfreesboro United Methodist Church, where he was active in several capacities, a member of the Murfreesboro Historical Association serving on the board of directors for a number of years. He was a former member of the Murfreesboro Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, J. Reginal Collier and William G. Collier; and five sisters, Catherine C. Cates, Reba C. Holland, Lillian C. Garriss, Eleanor C. Murph and Mamie C. Vines.
He is survived by his wife, Esther House Collier; one son, Thomas Benjamin Collier and his wife, Mary, of Los Angeles, Calif.; two grandchildren, Rachel and John Collier of Los Angeles, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Carrie M. Collier of Garner.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 29 at Murfreesboro United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Michael Gast officiating. Burial will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 29 in the Garysburg United Methodist Church Cemetery in Garysburg.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 29 at the church, prior to the services, and other times at the home.

Robert L. Squire
CHESTERFIELD, Va. -- Mr. Robert L. Squire, 57, of Chesterfield, Va., formerly of Northampton County, departed this life Monday, Nov. 26, 2001.
Mr. Squire was retired from the Globe Envelope Company after 20 years of service. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Maude Ingram Squire Farrow; his father, Thomas W. Squire; and four brothers, Floyd, Thomas, James and Glenn Squire.
He is survived by a lifelong, devoted friend, William C. Moore; two sisters, Daisy Robertson of Roanoke Rapids, and Lesa Carpenter; a half-brother, James Robinson of Pleasant Hill; his stepfather, Felix Farrow of Roanoke Rapids; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; five aunts; and a host of cousins, friends, devoted nieces and nephews.
Bliley Funeral Home, the Chippenham Chapel, located at 6900 Hull Street Rd., Richmond, Va., is handling the arrangements, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 30, with Dr. Robert L. Pettis Sr., pastor of Zion Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30 at the Squire Memorial Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.

ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Funeral arrangements are incomplete and being handled by Hockaday Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, for James Eugene "Gene" Wells Sr., 59, of 802 Carolina St., Roanoke Rapids, who died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Duke Medical Center in Durham.
Lonnie Lockhart, Jr.
GARYSBURG -- Lonnie Lockhart, Jr., 67, of 109 Washington St., Garysburg, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Lockhart was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Susie Lockhart; a son, Louis Lockhart; a daughter, Elizabeth Lockhart; his wife, Ollie Mae Bynum Lockhart; a sister, Rebecca Chappell; and a brother, Otis Lockhart.
He is survived by two daughters, Shirley Lockhart and Vernell Lockhart, both of New Jersey; two sons, Sampson Lockhart and Donald Lockhart (Jeanetta), all of New Jersey; six sisters, Bettie D. Stephenson and Virgie Johnson, both of Garysburg, Jannie Camoran of Roanoke Rapids, Rockzal Anderson of California, Margaret Ferguson of Washington, D.C., and Elizabeth Moore of Scotland Neck; two brothers, Elmo Lockhart of New Jersey, and Jasper Robinson of Suffolk, Va.; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, in-laws and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30 at Roanoke Salem Baptist Church in Garysburg, with the Rev. Robert Sessoms officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Kattie M. Jarrells Hamiel
ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Kattie M. Jarrells Hamiel, 62, of Roanoke Rapids, entered into eternal rest and peace Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at Life Care Hospital in Nash County after a lengthy illness.
She was born on Dec. 22, 1938, in Halifax County, to the late James Jarrells and Eva Alston Jarrells. She confessed Christ during her early life and joined Oak Grove Baptist Church in Littleton, and received her formal education in the public schools of Halifax County.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Woodrow Hamiel of Littleton. In the early years of their marriage, they relocated to Washington, D.C., and resided there for 33 years. She was employed as a shirt technician at Hamilton Cleaners in Hyattsville, Md., and retired after 20 years of dedicated service. In 1991, she returned to North Carolina, settled in Roanoke Rapids and became a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Halifax, where she remained faithful until ill health prevailed.
Her spirit lives today and forever in the hearts and minds of her beloved husband, Woodrow Hamiel of the home; three sisters, Hattie Pearl Pittman (John) of Oxon Hill, Md., and Thelma and Geraldine Jarrells of East Orange, N.J.; two brothers, John Ellis Jarrells and James Henry Jarrells (Emma) of Silver Spring, Md.; another brother-in-law, David Hamiel of Charles City, Va.; two other sisters-in-law, Ruth Hamiel of Enfield, and Queen Watson of Roanoke Rapids; one uncle, Richard Alston of Richmond, Va.; three aunts of New Jersey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 29 at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Halifax, with the Rev. Dr. C.E. McCollum, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Barbara Jean Bowser Miles
ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Barbara Jean Bowser Miles, with her son, Gary, holding her left hand, and her brother, Joe, holding her right hand, slipped into eternal rest Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Magnolia Skilled Care Center in Durham.
She was born in Roanoke Rapids on May 13, 1942, to Nettie Bowser and the late Wyatt Thomas Bowser. She graduated from the former John Armstrong Chaloner High School in Roanoke Rapids with the Class of 1960. After graduation, she relocated to New York, where she met and married the late Wyland Adolph Miles on Dec. 26, 1963. After 30 years of travel with her loving husband, who was in the United States Army, they settled in Roanoke Rapids where she remained until her demise.
In addition to her husband and father, she was also preceded in death by her son, Virgil Adolph Miles; and her brother, James Thomas Bowser.
Those remaining to cherish the precious memory of her life are two sons, Gary Deval Miles of New York, and Anthony R. Lee (Laura) of McGuire Air Force Base, N.J.; her mother, Nettie Mae Bowser of Roanoke Rapids; two grandchildren, Brianne and Daniell Lee; three brothers, Joe (Melinda) of Durham, Anton (Becky) of San Diego, Calf., and Clayton (Jackie) of Roanoke Rapids; four sisters, Estella Smith (Douglas) of Bronx, N.Y., Laura Smith (George) of Cary, Nia Imani Abuwi of Trenton, N.J., and Shirley Martin (Nathan) of Roanoke Rapids; two sisters-in-law, Odesia Miles Roberts and Edna Inez Miles Hicks; four aunts and one uncle; seven nieces and seven nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 28 at London Baptist Church, located on Hwy. 158, Roanoke Rapids, with the Rev. Eugene Bryant, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery, located on Smith Church Road, Roanoke Rapids.
Robinson Funeral Home in Littleton is handling the arrangements, where the body will repose until 8:30 p.m., today, Nov. 27, and then for one hour prior to the service at the church.

PLEASANT HILL -- Georgia M. Hall, 79, of 896 James Jones Rd., Pleasant Hill, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at Greensville Memorial Hospital in Emporia, Va.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the Hall Family Cemetery, located on James Jones Rd., Pleasant Hill, with Brother William Greer officiating.
