Carl Putman Harrison
ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Carl Putman Harrison, 75, of 98 Carl St., Roanoke Rapids, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002.
M. Harrison was the son of the late Alvah Reid Harrison and Maude Justice Harrison.
He was a native of Gumberry, and retired from J.P. Stevens with 30 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen C. Harrison; one daughter, Vonda H. Gibson of Roanoke Rapids; five sons, Edwin and Chuck of Roanoke Rapids, Eric of Scotland Neck, and Mark and Matt of Roanoke Rapids; one sister, Grace H. Davis of Conway; two brothers, Paul Harrison and Alvah Reid "Dink" Harrison of Roanoke Rapids; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Harrison Family Cemetery in Gumberry, with the Rev. Maurice Wheat officiating.
Askew Funeral Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., today, Oct. 9, and other times at the home.
Beulah Garrett
ENFIELD -- Funeral arrangements are incomplete and being handled by Clark Funeral Home in Enfield, for Beulah Garrett, 83, of Enfield, who died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002.
Fannie Bell Walker Moore
LITTLETON -- Fannie Bell Walker Moore, 79, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2003.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 21, at Enterprise Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jim Lamb officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral services at the church.

Jeanette Harris Hux
ROCKY MOUNT -- Jeanette Harris Hux, 85, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002.
Mrs. Hux was born July 9, 1917, in Halifax County, the daughter of the late Robert P. and Arline Williams Harris. She was preceded in death by one sister, Ava H. Rice; and two brothers, Robert P. Harris and Percy C. Harris.
She is survived by her husband, George A. Hux of the home; one son, Robert T. Overby and his wife, Evelyn, of Rocky Mount; a granddaughter, Robin Overby Ward and her husband, Jeff, of Rocky Mount; a great-grandchild, Tyler Thomas Ward; her sisters, Sarah H. Dickens of Rocky Mount, Dorothy H. Murphey and her husband, Carlton, of Hollister, and Geraldine H. Stevens and her husband, Ellis, of Brooksville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, at First United Methodist Church in Halifax, with the Rev. Stanley Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., today, Oct. 4, from 2 to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, prior to the funeral at the church, and other times at the home.

Alvah Futrell
WOODLAND -- Mr. Alvah Futrell, 97, a Woodland native, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at the Brian Center in Windsor.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 8, at Woodland United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lee Pittard officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery.
Massey Funeral Home in Aulander is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., today, Aug. 7.
James Edward 'Ed' Hodges Sr.
ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Mr. James Edward "Ed" Hodges Sr., 70, of 280 Three Bridges Road, Roanoke Rapids, died Thursday, April 17, 2003, at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount.
Mr. Hodges was a veteran, having served in the Marines during the Korean War.
He was a retired brickmason.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Thompson Hodges and Jack Thomas Hodges; and one sister, Pearl Moore.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Hodges; two daughters, Diane Cobb and her husband, Randy, and Debra Shina, all of Greensboro; one son, Eddie Hodges of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Inez Phillips of Emporia, Va.; two stepsons, Chip Jenkins of Jacksonville, and Michael Jenkins of Roanoke Rapids; and four grandchildren.
Hockaday Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 20, in the chapel, with the Rev. Donald Etheridge officiating.
Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday, April 19, at the funeral home, and other times at the home, 280 Three Bridges Road.
William Thomas Hall

William Thomas Hall, age 79, of Ahoskie, died Monday, April 18, 2011 at Pitt Co. Memorial Hospital.
He was born February 11, 1932 in Bertie County, to the late William Joseph Hall and Ada Joyner Hall.
Mr. Hall was a loving and devoted son, brother, husband, father and grandfather.
He enjoyed camping, cooking, fishing and traveling.
He was a 1950 graduate of Aulander High School where he played varsity sports lettering in football, basketball and baseball.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War serving two tours in Korea.
He was an expert auto body repairman, employed by Charles H. Jenkins & Co. in Aulander, Freeman Chevrolet in Ahoskie, and Tri-County Auto Repair in Aulander.
He was one of the founders and a charter member of the Aulander Volunteer Rescue Squad where he served as Captain for many years and was a certified Emergency Medical Technician, was a past member of the Aulander Volunteer Fire Department, where he served many years as Chief of the department, a past member of the Bertie County Fire Protection Association, where he served a term as Vice President, a past member of the Aulander Ruritan Club, where he served as President and Secretary of the Aulander club and was a District Zone Governor, a member of Woodmen of the World, past president of the Aulander camp and a faithful member of Liberty Freewill Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, cook, carpenter and grass mower.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of sixty years Emily Brantley Hall of the home, a daughter Tommie H. Oppegaard and husband Lee of Wilmington, a son Barry Hall and wife Patricia of Ahoskie, a sister Peggy H. Stoffregen and husband Bill of Raleigh, a grandson Eric Thomas Oppegaard of CT, a granddaughter Amanda Elizabeth Hall of Ahoskie, a step-granddaughter Paula Brabble of Ahoskie, numerous nieces and nephews and a loving church family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, April 22, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Liberty Freewill Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
Rev. Paul Ange and Rev. Glen Batten will officiate.

Nancy Stephenson Sexton
WALKERTOWN -- Nancy Stephenson Sexton, 51, of 5427 Wallasey Road, formerly of Garysburg, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at her home after a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was a graduate of Northampton County High School-East, attended High Point College and was previously employed with Davis Insurance Services Inc. in Winston-Salem.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Sexton; her father, Robert L. "Bob" Stephenson of Roanoke Rapids; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert L. Stephenson; and an uncle, William L. Stephenson of Garysburg.
She is survived by a daughter, Stephanie Taylor, a son, Christopher Taylor and his wife, Amy, and two grandsons, Charles and Austin Taylor, all of Walkertown; two aunts, Jean S. Witt of Greensboro, and Eleanor S. Pruden of Jackson; and many loving and caring cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 28, at the Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Chapel in Kernersville.
Robert Eugene 'Bobby' Slade
ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Robert Eugene Slade, 42, of 230 Julian Allsbrook Hwy., Roanoke Rapids, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002.
Bobby was born June 10, 1960, at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, and had lived in Roanoke Rapids, since 1963.
He was a carpenter with Shipley Builders of Littleton, loved the outdoors, and was an avid fisherman.
He was a member of the Potawatomi Indian Tribe in Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Spurgeon and Joyce Slade.
He is survived by his sisters, Dixie Furlong and Linda Slade of Tallahassee, Fla., Brenda Bowden and her husband, Sid, of Escondido, Calif., and Janet Slade; one brother, William "Bo" Slade of Roanoke Rapids; his nieces, Sandy Furlong and Debby Wofford and her husband, Ken; his nephews, Todd and Nathan Bowden; one great-nephew, Alex Wofford; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Hockaday Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, is handling the arrangements, where a memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 8, in the chapel.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., today, Aug. 7, at 1308 Virginia Ave., Roanoke Rapids.

ENFIELD -- Steve Person, 70, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 28, at Tillery Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Glen Silver officiating.
Burial will follow in the Crowell Baptist Church Cemetery in Halifax.
