John Alexander Harrison
GASTON - Mr. John Alexander Harrison, age 71, died May 13, 2002 at Hampton-Woods Nursing Home in Jackson.
Mr. Harrison was retired from J.P Stevens in Roanoke Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Bettie Casper Harrison; one daughter, Joy Harrison Baugham of Roanoke Rapids; one sister, Grace Davis of Seaboard; three brothers, Paul Harrison, Carl Harrison and Alvie Harrison, all of Roanoke Rapids and one grandson.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. May 15, 2002 at Casper Family Cemetery, Garysburg with the Rev. Bruce Wayne Marshall officiating.
The family received friends from 7-8:30 p.m., May 14 at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson and other times at the home of his daughter, Joy Baugham at 141 Radar Circle, Roanoke Rapids.
Massey Funeral Homes of Jackson handled the arrangements.
Jessie M. Sneed
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Jessie Mae Sneed (Hardy), 77, died May 3, 2002 at Mary Immuculate Hospital.
Sneed was a native of Hertford County.
Survivors include four daughters, Edith R. Brooks of Murfreesboro, CarDean Newsome of Boston, Mass., Peggy Bishop and Bensie Williams of Newport News, Va.; one son, Samuel Sneed of Newport News, Va.; three sisters, Ernestine Gatling of Murfreesboro, Ruth Lassiter of Portsmouth, Va. and Cleo Valentine of Brooklyn, NY; 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 12 noon on May 9, 2002 at the Newport News Church of Christ.
Katie O. Clark
PORTSMOUTH, Va - Katie O. "Jackie" Clark, 83, died May 10, 2002. Clark is a native of Corepeake.
Survivors include her husband, Floyd Clark, Jr.; a daughter, Daryl W. Clark of Portsmouth; a son, Blaine Clark of Lanham, Md; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., today at Fellowship United Church of God, Chesapeake, Va. with the Rev. William Collins officiating.
Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake.
The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. today.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Miller Home and Day Nursery, 1400 Camden Ave., Portsmouth, Va 237014, in honor of her love for children.
Bettie B. Perry
WINDSOR - Bettie Mae Bowen Perry, 86, a native of Martin County, died May 18, 2002 at Bertie Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Walker Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Onni Warren and the Rev. Clifton Dunning. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
Mrs. Perry was a homemaker and a member of Windsor Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Nell P. Davis of Windsor; a son, Hughie Council of Jamesville; a stepson, Joseph "Gashouse" Perry of Rich Square; a sister, Sudie B. Renfrow of Wilson; a brother, Bill Bowen of Williamston; four grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
John R. Joyner
COURTLAND, Va. - Deacon John Rodger Joyner, a native of Murfreesboro, died May 16, 2002, at East Pavilion Nursing Home, Franklin.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Courtland, by the Rev. John H. Joyner.
Burial will be in Butts family cemetery. Engram Funeral Home is in charge.
Joyner will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Tuesday for viewing.
Joyner was a retired, self-employed farmer. He was a member of New Haven Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Williams Joyner; and a brother, Walter Joyner.
Eunice R. Whitfield
FRANKLIN, Va. - Eunice R. Whitfield, a native of Nansemond County, died May 16, 2002, in Suffolk.
A service celebrating her life was conducted Monday at Bryants Baptist Church by Pastor Johnnie Lyons.
Burial was in Southview Cemetery.
Survivors include 10 daughters, Cynthia Edwards of Durham, Brenda Tennessee of Capron, Loretta Lawrence, Ale Massenburg of Franklin, Wanda Richardson of Hopewell, Gloria Walker of Ocean Side, Calif., Gail Whitfield of Washington, D.C., Roberta Branch of Corapeake, Crystal Burgess of Waverly and Deborah Whitfield of Chesapeake; a son, André Whitfield of Garysburg; a sister, Juanita Williams of Portsmouth; 21 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Barnard D. Patterson
EDENTON - Barnard David Patterson, M.D., a native of Queens, N.Y., died May 19, 2002, in Chowan Hospital.
A funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Edenton, by the Rev. Ralph Epps.
Friends may join the family in the main lobby of the funeral home following services, and all other times at the residence.
Dr. Patterson will be sent to the A.L. Jacobsen Funeral Home, 1380 New York Ave., Huntington Station, N.Y., and they will direct graveside services in the Pinelawn Memorial Park.
The family asks that flowers be omitted and contributions in his memory be directed to the Edenton United Methodist Church, 225 Virginia Road, Edenton, N.C.
Patterson was a retired general practitioner; he had served as a major in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Enyeart Patterson; two daughters, Susan Jane Halligan of Huntington, N.Y., and Betsy Brown of Winton; a brother, George C. Patterson of Chappell Hill, Texas; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Johnnie Louise Northcott
COLERAIN - Johnnie Louise Northcott, 91, died May 13, 2002 in Brevard, NC.
She was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Potter of Brevard; a son, Thomas Earl Northcott of Colerain; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., today at Mars Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Preston Jernigan officiating.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.

Lizzie Smallwood
WINDSOR - Lizzie Smallwood, 87, died May 11, 2002 at the Brain Center in Windsor after a lengthy illness.
Survivor includes a cousin, Mamie Wiggins of Lewiston.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m., today at Cherry’s Funeral Chapel in Windsor.
Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery.
Visitation was held May 15 from 6-7 p.m. at Cherry’s Funeral Home.

C.B. Bennett, Jr.
NEWPORT NEWS, Va - C.B. Bennett, Jr., 74, died May 11, 2002 at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
Arrangements are pending with Weymouth Funeral Home in Newport News, Va.
