Mrs. Eloise Drewett Joyner
Seaboard, NC - Mrs. Eloise Drewett Joyner passed away on Friday, November 13, 2009.
A lifetime resident of Seaboard, NC, she attended Seaboard Baptist Church where she sang in the choir.
Mrs. Joyner was born December 3, 1926, the daughter of the late Walter Jackson Drewett and Mary Johnson Drewett and was raised in Northampton County.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Jasper William Joyner and her two daughters, Anne Beale and her husband Mack of Greenville, NC, and Nancy Wade and her husband, Ronnie of Dunn, NC; three grandchildren: Dean Wade and his wife Jill of Dunn, NC, Megan Beale Wamer and her husband, Timmy of Winterville, NC, and James Beale and his wife Mandria of Greenville, NC; five great-grandchildren, Kealey and Ashtyn Wade, Joel and Conner Wamer and Isabella Beale. She is also survived by her sisters, Christine Whitehead of Emporia, VA and Ellen Whitley of Potecasi, NC.
Funeral services will be held, Monday, November 16, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Seaboard Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Gaskins, Rev. Steve Trussell and Rev. Joshua Blythe. Burial will follow at Seaboard Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Mr. Benjamin "Benny" Hudgins
Enfield, NC - Mr. Benjamin "Benny" Hudgins, age 85, of Enfield, NC, died Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at his home.
Mr. Hudgins was born August 10, 1924, the son of the late Arthur Hudgins and Clara Smith Hudgins. He was a mechanic for many years and a dispatcher for the Enfield Police Department. He loved to farm and was a farmer for many years. He was a veteran of the US Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Jones Hudgins. His daughters, Donna Sue Hudgins and Bonnie Inscoe. His granddaughter, Jennifer Velasquez. Two sisters, Mary Keeter and Nellie Armstrong.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 6, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Enfield, NC, with Rev. Charles Robl, III officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Enfield, Thursday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM
Mr. Jack Lester Roughton, Sr.
Roanoke Rapids, NC - Mr. Jack Lester Roughton, Sr., age 80, of Scotland Neck, NC, died Sunday, November 1, 2009.
Mr. Roughton was born December 20, 1928. He was predeceased in death by his parents, Zack and Annie Nixon Roughton.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Jack L. Roughton, Jr. and his wife, Mary of Raleigh, NC, a daughter, Rebecca R. Abernathy and her husband, Donald of Roanoke Rapids. One grandson, Lee Brown, Jr. and two step-granddaughters Betsy Desprez and Ginger Desprez.
Mr. Roughton was a member of the Lakeview Park Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids. He retired Sgt. First Class from the U.S. Army after 27 years of service.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids on Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 pm. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 4 at 3:00 pm at Massey Funeral Home Chapel and interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.
Services will be conducted by Rev. Arnold Cooper.
Mrs. Myrtle Walker Keeter
Enfield, NC - Mrs. Myrtle Walker Keeter, age 95, of Enfield, NC, died Sunday, November 1, 2009.
Mrs. Keeter was born December 1, 1913. She obtained her education through the public schools in Halifax County. Myrtle was married to the late John Raymond Keeter who she loved and was faithful to until the day she went to be with the Lord. She was predeceased by her parents, C.B. and Rosa Walker Keeter, a son, Raymond Eugene Keeter and all of her brothers and sisters.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Wayne Arnold Keeter and his wife Margaret of Roanoke Rapids, Kaye K. Neville and her husband Andrew of Enfield, Vivian K. Edmondson and her husband Gene "Peter Rabbit" of Roanoke Rapids. Her daughter-in-law,
Faye S. Keeter of Raleigh. Eight grandchildren, Lynn James (Danny), Timothy "Snapper" Keeter (Michelle), Wayne A Keeter, II (Sandra), Katrina Ross West, Lisa Whitby (Kenny), John Harrison and Michelle Ross, Mark Alan Edmondson and Gene Gray Edmondson, Jr. Fourteen grandchildren, Christie Ayscue (Andru), Willie D. James, II, Wayne A. Keeter, III (Amber), Jennifer Keeter, Tabitha Keeter, Drew Keeter, Donna Keeter, J.R. West, Holt Gordon, Hannah, Nathan and Lillie Ross, Dylan Edmondson and Landen Edmondson. Three great-grandchildren, Andru Dylan Ayscue, Destiny "Ducky" Ayscue, Krysia "Queen B" Ayscue and several nieces and nephews.
Myrtle was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, mother-in-law and a true friend to all who knew her. She also left to cherish her memory, Rev. Marshall Walker, a devoted nephew, Donna Garner Crickmore, a dedicated niece, Joseph Ross, Willie Gordon and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service, followed by visitation, will be held, Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 7:00 Pm at Massey Funeral Home in Enfield, NC.
A graveside service will be held, Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Elmwood Cemetery in Enfield.

Mrs. Vivian Cone Vaughan
Jackson, NC - Mrs. Vivian Cone Vaughan, age 72, of Jackson, NC, died Monday, October 26, 2009 at Pine Forest Rest Home in Potecasi.
Mrs. Vaughan was born July 24, 1937 in Franklin County, NC. She was predeceased by her husband Cecil Vaughan and a son, Cecil Vaughan, Jr. who passed away March 3, 2008.
Mrs. Vaughan is survived by a son, Ronald Vaughan of Jackson, NC; three sisters, Edith Lassiter of Rich Square, Carol Vaughan of Windsor, NC, and Pansy Sonja of Louisburg, NC; and a brother, Jimmy Cone of Pilot, NC.
Cecil Jr. is survived by his son, Justin Andrew Vaughan and a brother, Ronald Vaughan of Jackson.
A joint funeral service will be held for Mrs. Vaughan and her son Cecil, Jr. on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson with the Rev. Ed Drew officiating. Burial will follow at Jackson Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m.
Mrs. Allene Aycock Lucas Hux
Rocky Mount, NC - Mrs. Allene Aycock Lucas Hux, age 77, of Rocky Mount, NC, and formerly of Enfield, NC, died Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Nash General Hospital.
Mrs. Hux was retired from CSX Railroad and a retired insurance agent in Enfield for many years. She worked with Charlotte Liberty Mutual and Western and Southern Insurance Companies.
Mrs. Hux was preceded in death by her first husband, Tommie Horace Lucas and her second husband Willie Alexander Hux.
Survivors include her children, Ann Joyner of Rocky Mount, Faye Reason Soth of Maryland and Johnnie Ray Lucas of Roanoke Rapids. Seven brothers and sisters, Jack Aycock, Dan Aycock, David Aycock, Tommy Aycock, Emily Bass, Jane Dennis and Suzanne Bunish. Seven grandchildren, Denise Rodenkirchen, Ginger Joyner, Elizabeth Joyner, Timothy Joyner, Alex Reason, Johnathan Vance Lucas, Melissa Nager and eleven great-grandchildren Klaus Rodenkirchen, Patience Rodenkirchen, Raynor Rodenkirchen, Leighann Kennedy, Kelsey Warrick, Chelsea Reason, Shyann Reason, Ashley McCoy, Ashwin Nager, Vajay Nager and Sanjay Nager.
A memorial service will be held, Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 7:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Enfield, NC. The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Research and Treatment.
Mr. John Henry Todd
Colerain, NC - Mr. John Henry Todd, age 65, of Colerain, NC, died October 19, 2009 at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC.
Mr. Todd was born April 20, 1944 in Bertie County, NC, the son of the late John Davis Todd and Eva Mizelle Todd. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served his country during the Vietnam War. Survivors include his daughter, Lisa Todd Liverman of Ahoskie and Wendy Todd Ambrose of Harrellsville. His sons, David S. Todd of Colerain and Jay Todd of Harrellsville. Five grandchildren. His wife, Margaret and three step-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Harrellsville Cemetery in Harrellsville, with Rev. Preston Jernigan and Rev. David Baker officiating.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, Wednesday from 7:00 until 8:00 PM.
Mr. Ellis Ray Brown
Mufreesboro, NC - Mr. Ellis Ray Brown, age 68, of Murfreesboro, NC, died Friday, October 16, 2009 at his home.
Mr. Brown was born March 14, 1941, the son of the late Rexell Lee Brown and Roxie Mae Lane Brown. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jeri Jackson Brown.
Survivors include his daughters, Lana Flythe and her husband, Robert, Connie Jenkins and her husband, Keith, Bonnie Jenkins and her husband, Marty, and Janie Brown; four grandchildren, Ray Jenkins, Ryan Flythe, Lauren Flythe and Christopher Miles; and three brothers, Samuel Brown, Linday Brown and Wayne Brown.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 19, 2009 at Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie, NC.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, Sunday, Oct. 18 from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. and other times at the home.
Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, is serving the family.
Mrs. Dorothy Webb Pittman
Weldon, NC - Mrs. Dorothy Webb Pittman, age 83, of Weldon, NC, died Monday, October 12, 2009 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Pittman was born September 2, 1923 in Pinetops, NC, the daughter of the late Walter Webb and Jerusha Kennedy Webb. She was also predeceased by her husband, Horace Martin Pittman.
Survivors include her daughter, Janie Medlin of Roanoke Rapids. Her son, Duke Pittman of Halifax. Two sisters, Carolyn Pittman of Efland, NC, and Faye Gardner of Halifax, NC. Her brother, Pete Webb of Efland, NC. Three grandchildren, Stephanie Amos and her husband, Curt; Shelly Strickland and her husband, Michael and Justin Medlin. Four great-grandchildren, Payton Amos, Harli Amos, Jordan Strickland, and Ayden Medlin.
Graveside services will be held, Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Whitakers Chapel Cemetery in Whitakers, NC, with Rev. Chuck Owens officiating.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Enfield, NC, Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to services.

Mr. Cecil Calvin Willoughby
Roanoke Rapids, NC - Mr. Cecil Calvin Willoughby, age 85, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, died Friday, October 9, 2009 in Lawrenceville, VA.
Mr. Willoughby was born December 13, 1923, in Hertford County, NC, the son of the late Walter Raleigh Willoughby and Laura Hughson Willoughby. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jenkins Willoughby.
Mr. Willoughby was a registered State Forrester and retired from Coastal Lumber Company. He was a World War II Army veteran, a member of Potecasi Baptist Church and former member of Valley Pine Country Club where he loved to play golf.
Survivors include his daughter Beth W. Story and her husband Tommy of Littleton, NC. His grandchildren, Renee Vester, Stephanie Pericak, and Hunter Thomas Story. Three great-grandchildren, Justin, Tyler and Margaret. A sister, Margaret Young of Ahoskie, NC.
Graveside services will be held, Sunday, October 11, 2009 at 4:00 Pm at Milwaukee Cemetery with Rev. Joe McLean officiating.
