Mrs. Kathryn Boyd Rokita Hamill
Jackson, NC - Mrs. Kathryn Boyd Rokita Hamill, age 86, of Jackson, NC, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC.
Mrs. Hamill was born June 22, 1922, the daughter of the late Raymond R. Boyd and Beulah Lassiter Boyd. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Joseph Rokita and her second husband, Archie Hamill. She graduated from Jackson High School, East Carolina Teachers College and the Medical College of Virginia. She lived and worked in New York City, for nearly fifty years. After her retirement, she returned to her hometown of Jackson, and became an active member of The Church of the Saviour and the Jackson Woman’s Club.
Survivors include her daughters, Diane Rokita Pridgen and her husband Charles of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Kathie Rokita and her husband Brian Doherty of Long Island, New York. Her sister, Nancy B. Skipper of Jackson, NC. Her grandchildren, Margie Martin and April Pridgen. Her great-grandchildren, Katie, Will and Grace Martin and David and Laura Pridgen. Her nieces and nephews, Mary Ann "Sisty" Heaslip, Joey Davis, Jennie Wade, Jill Helm, Jimmy Davis and Jeff Davis.
A memorial service will held Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 11:00 AM at The Church of The Saviour in Jackson, with The Rev. Foye Bradshaw officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service at the church.

Ruth H. Joyner
Ruth H. Joyner of Hertford County, N.C., died Friday, June 12th, 2009.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wilmer Joyner.
She was survived by her children Tommy Joyner, Brenda Davis and her husband Donnie, Cynthia Hall and her husband Jimmie, Rick and his wife Paula, Doug and his wife Pat, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and brother Clayton Harris and wife Nancy.
Visitation will be held at 1 PM, Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Massey Funeral Home, Aulander, N.C., followed by a memorial service at 2 PM.
Arrangements are being handled by Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC.
Taylor Marie Vaughan
Roanoke Rapids, NC - Taylor Marie Vaughan, age 11, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009.
Taylor was born September 20, 1997 in Roanoke Rapids, NC. She had just finished the fifth grade at Belmont Elementary School in Roanoke Rapids. One of her greatest things she loved to do was play soccer.
She is survived by her parents Lisa and Curtis Norwood of Roanoke Rapids and William Vaughan, of Skippers, VA. Her brothers, Tyler Vaughan and Jared Norwood of the home. Her grandparents, Bud and Georgia Erickson and Ruth and Henry Spence. Her aunt, Lori Erickson and her uncles, Tim Erickson and his wife Susan and Jason Vaughan and his wife Katrina.
A memorial service will be held, Sunday, June 14, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, with Dennis Parnell officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday, June 13, 2009 from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
The family has asked, in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the RVYSA Sidekicks Soccer League, c/o Dusty Rose, 234 Franklin Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.
Mr. James Ernest Johnson
Roanoke Rapids, NC - Mr. James Ernest Johnson, age 88, of Roanoke Rapids, died June 9, 2009.
Mr. Johnson was born May 31, 1921, the son of the late Joseph Johnson and Lillie Vaughan Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Baird Johnson.
An Avid Atlanta Braves Fan and an avid listener to Rev. Arnold Cooper on Sunday morning radio program. (Possum). His favorite vacation spots were the .25 slot machine in Atlantic City and Dover Downs.
Survivors include his daughter, Barbara J. Carter and her husband Jim of Roanoke Rapids. His sister, Barbara Andrews of Richmond, VA. His brother, Stanley Johnson and his wife Peggy of Littleton, NC. Two granddaughters, Susan Padgett Ranspach and Donna Lorence, both of Hampton, VA. One step-granddaughter, Marie Warren of Hampton, VA. Three great-granddaughters, Olivia Lorence, Lauren Ranspach, and Julia Ranspach. Three step-grandsons. And several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held, Friday, June 12, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, with Rev. Casey Short officiating.

Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Jenkins Griffin
Roanoke Rapids, NC - Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Jenkins Griffin, age 70, of Roanoke Rapids, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at her home.
Mrs. Griffin was born August 6, 1938 in Halifax County, NC, the daughter of the late John Henry Jenkins and Nellie Mabrey Jenkins. She was also predeceased by a son, Billy Green.
Dot was a faithful member of Harvest Temple Holiness Church in Roanoke Rapids. She was a flower designer and owner of Elegant Designs in Roanoke Rapids for many years. She had served as a member of the Roanoke Rapids Police Auxiliary and the Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Harold Griffin. Her sons, Randy Griffin and his wife Kathy and Darryl Griffin and his wife Leila, all of Roanoke Rapids. Her sisters, Charlotte Rodwell and her husband J.B and Ann Allsbrook and her husband Buzzy, all of Roanoke Rapids. Her brothers, James Jenkins and his wife Hilda and Wayne Jenkins and his wife Sylvia, all of Roanoke Rapids. Her grandsons, Jamie Griffin, Kyle Griffin, Jeb Green, Job Green and Josh Green. Her granddaughter, Megan Griffin. Her three great-grandchildren, Alex Griffin, Evan Green and Noah Green. Many nieces and nephews. Also a very special friend and caregiver, Jean Christenbury and Dot’s church family.
Funeral services will be held, Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Harvest Temple Holiness Church in Roanoke Rapids, with Rev. Norwood Starling and Rev. Fred Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

Mrs. Joyce Hughes Witt
Lasker, NC, - Mrs. Joyce Hughes Witt, age 89, of Lasker, NC, died Monday, June 8, 2009 at Hampton Woods in Jackson.
Mrs. Witt was born May 4, 1920 in Northampton County, NC, the son of the late Phillip Hughes and Minnie Mabel Bolton Hughes. She was also preceded in death by her husband Ernest Witt and a brother, Mahlon Bolton Hughes. She was a faithful, lifetime member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Jackson, NC.
Survivors include her step-son, E. Carl Witt of Jackson, NC. Her sisters, Doris Hughes Cones of Suffolk, VA, Janie Hughes True of Arlington, VA, Janet Hughes Lewis of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and Gertrude Hughes Outland of Rich Square, NC. Ten nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held, Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Hill officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Wednesday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.

Troy Jarvis Ansley
ROANOKE RAPIDS, NC, – Troy Jarvis Ansley, age 85, died Monday, June 1, 2009, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Ansley was born in Northampton County, Nov. 29, 1923, a son of the late William and Nina Hardison Ansley. He was a World War II Air Force Veteran and a member of Gaston Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Ercelle Conner Ansley, a son, George Ansley and his twin brother, Roy Ansley.
He is survived by his children, Linda Gilliam and husband Leroy, Carlton Ansley all of Roanoke Rapids, Jennifer Moseley and husband Pete of Loganville, Ga., Ronnie Ansley of Rolesville, N.C., a brother, William Ansley of Texas, a sister, Gertrude McCabe of Maxton, N.C., twelve grandchildren, Cheryl Tripp, Roy Gilliam, Ivey Gilliam, George "Alex" Ansley Jr., Chris Ansley, Johnathan Ansley, Patrick Ansley, Jeanne Gribble, Crystal Arthur, Carlton Ansley, Jr., Marrissa Michaud, Jason Moseley and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Marshall Officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Cemetery with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.

Mr. Joseph Lee Parrish
Halifax, NC, - Mr. Joseph Lee Parrish, age 65, of Aurelian Springs Road, Halifax, NC, died Friday, May 29, 2009 at Carrol S. Roberson Hospice Center in Fayetteville, NC.
Mr. Parrish was born July 28, 1943 in Halifax County, NC, the son of the late Frank B. Parrish and Helen Harrison Parrish. He was also preceded in death by his step-father W.J. Hobbs. He was a plasterer and sheet rock hanger for many years. He loved music and played the guitar. He was a member of Liberty Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Barkley Parrish. His daughter Donna Parrish Tractor of Texarkana, Arkansas. Two step-sons, Olya T. Green and his wife Marie and Thomas Green and his wife Stephanie all of Roanoke Rapids. His brothers, Freddie Parrish of Roanoke Rapids and Sherman Parrish and his wife Joan of Shelby, NC. His grandson, Philip Tractor. His step-grandchildren, Steven Taylor, Michael Taylor, Timothy Taylor, Lindsey Green, Kavin Green, Joshua Green, Katie Edwards and Aiden Nicholas Wright. His nieces and nephews, Holly Pegram and her husband Tom and their children, Paige and Patrick, Tim Parrish and his wife Stephanie, Debbie Morris and her husband Michael and their children, Garrett and Grant, Lisa Dickens and her husband Edward and their children, Casey and Lizbeth, Ginny Finch and her husband Lloyd and their children, Joseph Lambert, Blayden Finch, and Michelle Tanner and her husband Larry and their son Ryan. His
sister-in-law, Sarah Rose and her husband Lester and their son Lester Ray and a great-nephew Justin Hess. Also, many special friends including Kent Spencer of Wilson, NC.
A funeral service will be held, Monday, June 1, 2009 at 7:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, with Rev. Tony Smith officiating.
A visitation will be held after the service.

Mr. John Charles "Charlie" Werner
Gaston, NC, - Mr. John Charles "Charlie" Werner, age 69, of Gaston, NC, died Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
Mr. Werner was born March 31, 1940 in Lancaster, PA, the son of the late Raymond Werner and Sylvia Pierce Werner. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Valley Community Church.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Adams Werner. His son, Brent Werner and his wife Debra of Lancaster, PA. His daughters, Tracy Roseberry and her husband William of Denver, PA and Kerri Cassel and her husband, Jeffery of Wernersville, PA. His step-daughter, Darlene Brown of Rocky Mount, NC, Doris Tart, Regina Taylor and her friend Miguel Sanchez, Renee O’Conner, all of Roanoke Rapids and Crystal Adams of Durham, NC. His grandchildren, Michaela, Kaitlyn, Savannah, Jessica and her husband Antonio, Heather, Anthony, Amanda, Nicholas, RaeAnn, Courtney, Jonathan, and Jennifer. His great-granddaughter Leonor.
Funeral services will be held, Friday, May 22, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Valley Community Church with Rev. John Lefler officiating. Burial will follow at the Bonanno Family Cemetery.

Woodland, NC, - Mr. Joseph Griffin, age 93, of Woodland, NC, died Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Sun City Hospice Center in Ruskin, Florida.
Survivors include his wife Beatrice Griffin. His sons, Bob Griffin and Gary Griffin of Ruskin, Florida. His sister, Nellie Byrd of Florida, and one granddaughter Genoa Lynn Fedyszyn and her husband Todd of St. Petersburg, Florida.
Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Woodland Baptist Church in Woodland, NC. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
