Mr. Clyde Fenton "Pill" Johnson

Conway, NC - Mr. Clyde Fenton "Pill" Johnson, age 92, of Conway, NC, died Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin, VA.

Mr. Johnson was born October 17, 1916, the son of the late Henry Johnson and Bessie Pope Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nannie Wood Britton Johnson and a sister, Mittie Johnson Barnes. He was retired from the North Carolina Dept. of Corrections. He was a Mason and a member of the Pendleton Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his son, Woody Johnson and his wife Sandra of Conway, NC. His sister, Hazel Johnson Pope of Boykins, VA and Margie Johnson Burgess of Roanoke Rapids, NC. His grandchildren, Chris Johnson and his wife Jennifer of Severn, NC, and Hollie Wells and her husband Michael of Roanoke Rapids. One great-granddaughter, Lauren Kate Johnson. Also many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held, Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Galatia Baptist Church with Rev. David Foster officiating. Burial will follow at the Johnson Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to Galatia Baptist Church, Seaboard, NC 27876.

Mrs. Mary Boone Lanier Davis

Conway, NC - Mrs. Mary Boone Lanier Davis, age 83, of Conway, NC, died Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, NC.

Mrs. Davis was born September 10, 1925, in Northampton County, NC, the daughter of the late John Edward Boone and Lizzie Hasty Boone. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, J.B Lanier and her second husband John G. Davis and her brother-in-law, J.R. Duke. She was a member of Jackson Baptist Church and a farmer.

Survivors include her sisters, Nell Boone Duke and DeRother Boone Tromans and her husband John, all of Jackson, NC. Her step-daughter, Susan Davis Pope and her husband Thomas of Conway. Her step-son, John M. Davis and his wife Peggy of Raleigh, NC. Her grandchildren, Jenny Disney, Beth Vinson, John Pope and James Pope. Her niece, Nell Dean Williams and her husband Kenneth. Her nephews, Michael Tromans and his wife Rita and Jimmy Duke.

Funeral services will be held, Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Jackson Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Jackson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, Wednesday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to Jackson Baptist Church, Jackson, NC 27845.

Mrs. Stella Ruby Green Ferguson

ROANOKE RAPIDS, NC – Mrs. Stella Ruby Green Ferguson, age 84, died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Ferguson was born in Bertie County, May 11, 1925, the daughter of the late Joseph Elijah and Ruby Hall Green. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kennon Wyatt Ferguson; a son, Benjamin Lee Dixon, a sister, Josephine Parks and a brother, J. C. Green.

She is survived by her daughter, Ruby Dixon Van Dyke of Henrico, two sons, Carlton Ray Tripp, Jr. and Joseph Tripp both of Roanoke Rapids, a sister Pattie Mae Johnston of Roanoke Rapids, two brothers, James William Green of Roanoke Rapids, and Edmond Donald Lassiter of Monroe, N.C., special sister-in-law, Juanita Green of Roanoke Rapids, grandchildren, Carlton Ray Tripp III and wife Amy, Benjamin Tripp, Julie Stanley, Alan Tripp, Kennon Van Dyke, Matney Van Dyke, Jr., Cheryl Lee and Jody Tripp,
18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Good Samaritan Baptist Church with Dr. Dennis Gregory. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.

Mrs. Rosanna Rich Froeba

Roanoke Rapids, NC - Mrs. Rosanna Rich Froeba, age 75, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Froeba was born March 13, 1934 in New Britain, Conn., the daughter of the late Augustus Edward Rich and Barbara Harris Morse.

Survivors include her husband George Froeba. Her son, George E. Froeba and his friend Norma Clemons of Halifax. Two grandchildren, Corena Bristow and Tanya Froeba of Greenville, NC.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, with Rev. Arnold Cooper officiating.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, Friday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM.

Mr. David Moses Richards Sr.

Roanoke Rapids, NC - Mr. David Moses Richards Sr., age 49, of Roanoke Rapids, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount, NC.

Mr. Richards was born September 3, 1959 in Allegany County, PA. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas William Richards Sr. He was a used car dealer in Roanoke Rapids.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Ann Burns Richards. His son, David M. Richards Jr. and his daughter, Amanda Marie Richards, both of Roanoke Rapids. His mother, Victoria LaVerne Richards of Belle Vernon, PA. His twin sister, Diane Richards Oswalt of Punxsutawney, PA. Two brothers, Robert William Richards of Greensburg, PA, and Thomas William Richards of PA. Four grandchildren, Austin Shane Peterson, Hailey Marie Richards, Christopher Matthew Richards and Katherine Alyssa Richards. Also many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held, Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, with Father Michael Butler officiating.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, Wednesday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.

Mr. Thomas Ballard Carlisle

Emporia, VA - Mr. Thomas Ballard Carlisle, age 82, died Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Emporia Manor in Emporia, VA.

Mr. Carlisle was born October 7, 1927, in Halifax County, NC, the son of the late Ferdinand Carlisle and Gattie Mae Butts Carlisle.
He was also predeceased by his brothers, James Carlisle, Sterling Carlisle, Ollie Carlisle, Willard Carlisle and his sisters, Nellie C. Shaw and Floyd Lee Brewer. He was a retired mechanic and worked for Farm City in Roanoke Rapids, for a number of years. He was a World War II Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Marion Cannon Carlisle. Also many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held, Monday, May 11, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, with Rev. Troy Greene officiating.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, Sunday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.

Mr. William Thomas "Billy" Futrell

Jackson, NC - Mr. William Thomas "Billy" Futrell, age 77, of Hwy 305, Jackson, NC, died Sunday, May 3, 2009 at his home.

Mr. Futrell was born April 16, 1932 in Northampton County, the son of the late William Roger Futrell and Josie Askew Futrell. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Daphne Futrell, Judith Ruth Barnes, Peggy Ann Futrell, a sister-in-law, Ethel Futrell and a brother-in-law Oscar Barnes. He was retired from the NC Dept. of Transportation and a faithful member of Rohoboth United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Duke Futrell. His daughter, Dawn Leseney and her husband Roger of Jackson. His brothers, Henry Patrick Futrell, Roger Buxton "Buck" Futrell and his wife Gladys, Robert Earl "Bobby" Futrell and his wife Peggy, and Bernie Darrell Futrell and his wife Kay. Four grandchildren, Timothy Joseph Bellanca and his wife Elisa, Lauren Hope Bellanca, William David Bellanca and Tyr’e Samuel Leseney. One great-grandchild, Kristopher Matthew Altmansberger.

Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Rehoboth United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at the Futrell Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Tuesday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM and other times at the home.

Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, Roanoke Rapids Chapter Relay for Life

Mrs. Geraldine Mason Bradley

Roanoke Rapids, NC - Mrs. Geraldine Mason Bradley, age 89, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, died April 28, 2009 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.

Mrs. Bradley was born October 18, 1919 in Hyde County, NC, the daughter of the late Darius H. Mason and Lola Banks Mason. She was also preceded in death by her husband William Turner Bradley and a baby sister Delores Mason.

Survivors include her daughter, Sybil Deanne Bradley Sphar and her husband Joe of Corrales, NM. Her son William "Brad" Bradley of Kitty Hawk, NC. Her sister, Essie Wayne Silverman and her husband Bill of Orlando, Florida. Her grandchildren, Susan Cooke, Tara Bradley, Stephanie Bradley, Beth Bradley and Alice Bradley. Her great-grandchildren, Hayes Chambers, Samantha Wagoner, Clay Cardwell, Nikolas McCelvey and William McCelvey. One great-great-grandchild, Bradley Cardwell.

A memorial service will be held, Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Jackson United Methodist Church in Jackson, NC, with Rev. Paul Lee officiating.

The family will receive friends after the service at the church.

Family asked that flowers be omitted, however memorial contributions may be made to Jackson United Methodist Church, Jackson, NC 27845.

Arrangements are being handled by Massey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Faye Teele Smith Seger

Roanoke Rapids, NC - Mrs. Faye Teele Smith Seger, age 77, formerly of Roanoke Rapids, died Monday, April 27, 2009 in Wilson, NC.

Mrs. Seger was born June 23, 1931, in Northampton County, NC, the daughter of the late Rufus Elmer Smith and Ossie Hazel Teele Smith Council. She was also predeceased by her husband, Rev. Melvin Leon Seger.

Survivors include her sister, Marjorie Smith Almony of York, Penn.

Graveside services will be held, Thursday, April 30, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, with Rev. Julian Mills officiating.

Arrangements are being handled by Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids.

Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Davis Liverman Daughtry

ROANOKE RAPIDS, NC – Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Davis Liverman Daughtry, age 88, formerly of Lasker, NC, and most recently, a resident of Magnolia Gardens Senior Care, in Roanoke Rapids, died Sunday, April 19, 2009, at her home.

Mrs. Daughtry was born May 12, 1920, the daughter of the late Macon Edward Davis and Lottie Flythe Davis. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur Lee Liverman; her second husband, Luther Sherwood Daughtry; and her step-son, Luther Joyner Daughtry. She was a member of Lasker Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Fred Lee Liverman and his wife Sue, of Ahoskie, NC; two step-daughters, Ann Hicks and her husband, Larry of El Paso, TX, and Gloria Payne and her husband Claude, of Maryville, TN; and two sisters, Martha Davis Warren of Rich Square, NC, and Peggy Davis Ferguson, of Newsoms, VA.

She had eleven grandchildren including Sheila Liverman Forbes and her husband Stewart of Sanford, NC, Edward Lee Liverman and his wife Julie, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, John Andrew Liverman and his wife Kari, of Richmond, VA, Melissa Mercado and her husband Ernest, Jill Clark and her husband Chris, Jennifer Finch and her husband Paul, Shawn Borounda and her husband Carlos, Trent Hicks and his wife Amy, Greg Lane, Lizzie Slutzky and her husband Steve, and Matthew Lane and his wife Rebecca.

Her great-grandchildren included Carter, Kirby Elizabeth, and Keaton Forbes; Bennett and Davis Liverman; Kaylee, Elly, and Ruby Liverman; Garrett and Will Boyette; Mason Mercado; Annissa and Abigail Clark; Ayden Finch; Hunter Hicks; Ethan and Erin Slutzky; and Jeremy and James Lane. Her special caregivers at Magnolia Gardens were April, Barbara, Bonita, Ellen, Kim, Tamica, Nikki, and Christina.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Lasker Baptist Church in Lasker, with Rev. Rick Barnes and
Father Jeff Douglas officiating. Burial will follow at the Ahoskie Cemetery in Ahoskie.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
