Jessie Storey Bryant

Murfreesboro, NC - Mrs. Jessie Storey Bryant, age 86, formerly of Murfreesboro, NC, died Friday, August 6, 2010 at her son’s home in Hillsborough, NC.

Mrs. Bryant was born January 7, 1924 in Hertford County, NC, the daughter of the late Rufus Storey and Julia Benthall Storey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Dick" Bryant. Her grandfather invented the Benthall Peanut Picker. She was a retired receptionist at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC.

In 2003, Mrs. Bryant moved to Hillborough, NC, to live near her son and daughter-in-law. She attended Cane Creek Baptist Church with her family. She was a great blessing to her family and friends.

Survivors include her sons, Richard Dennis Bryant and his wife, Jenny of Hillsborough, NC, and Steven Everette Bryant and his wife, Kay of Pittsboro, NC. Her grandchildren, Richard Patrick Bryant and his wife, Amy K. Bryant, Robin Kirby and her husband, Todd, Steve Bryant Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, Angela Nicole Bryant and Connor Scott. Her great-grandchildren, Amelia Gracean, Macey Lauryn, Eliza Rose Bryant and Hannah Jean Kirby.

A memorial service will be held, Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Cane Creek Baptist Church in Hillsborough, NC. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 5:00 PM at Riverside Cemetery in Murfreesboro, NC. Rev. Jack Edge and Dr. Lee Canipe will officiate.

Arrangements are being handled by Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC.

Mr. Eley Jackson "Jackie" Morris, Sr.

Ahoskie, NC - Mr. Eley Jackson "Jackie" Morris, Sr., age 72, of Ahoskie, NC, died Thursday, July 29, 2010 at his home.

Mr. Morris was born October 23, 1937 in Hertford county, NC, the son of the late Robert Jack Morris and Mary Elizabeth Britton Morris. He was also predeceased by a son, "Peewee", two step-children, Helen and Bobby and one great-grandson, Nicholas.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Mary Elizabeth Webb Morris. His son, Eley Jackson "Buddy" Morris, Jr. and his wife, Tracy of Winton, NC. His sister, Ora Dalice Beacham and her husband, Carl of Williamston, NC. Five step-children, Edward, Levey, Rita, Liz and Jr. Twenty grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held, Monday, August 2, 2010 at
11:00 AM at Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Ronald McSwain officiating.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC, Sunday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM.

Mrs. Sally Liverman Newsome

Woodland, NC - Mrs. Sally Liverman Newsome, age 84, died July 23, 2010 at Hampton Woods Nursing Home in Jackson, NC.

Mrs. Newsome was born March 21, 1926, in Northampton County, NC, the daughter of the late Charles Irvin Liverman and Jessie Mae Whitley Liverman. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Cecil Arlington Newsome and by a sister, Sandra Faye Bryant and a brother Charles Liverman.

Mrs. Newsome was a retired nurse having worked at Roanoke Valley Nursing Home for 43 years. She was a member of Woodland Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Steve Newsome and his wife, Beth of Brunswick, GA. Her granddaughters, Stephanie Hope Gainey and her husband, Mark of Henrico, NC, and Kristie Elizabeth Newsome and her husband, Jonathan of Savannah, GA. Her great-grandchildren, Taylor Wilson, Jay Sutton, Brooke and Cody Gainey. Two sisters, Irva Mae Martin of Conway, NC, and Shirley Askew and her husband, Jerry of Milwaukee, NC. Several nieces and nephews and her beloved cat, Mr. Pinky.

Graveside services will be held, Sunday, July 25, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Woodland Cemetery in Woodland, NC, with Rev. Marcus Pond officiating.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to Continuum Hospice, P.O. Box 2004, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.

Mr. Joseph Kelly Turner, Jr.

Weldon, NC - Mr. Joseph Kelly Turner, Jr., age 83, of Weldon, NC, died Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.

Mr. Turner was born November 26, 1926 in Nash County, NC, the son of the late Joseph Kelly Turner, Sr. and Lucinda Denson Turner, the brother of Louise Turner Rudisill.

Mr. Turner graduated from Speed High School in 1943, and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 1944, he joined the US Navy and served as a pharmacist mate. After service, he again pursued his education at the University of North Carolina and graduated in June 1949.

He married Peggy Kimrey of Sanford, NC, and they settled in Weldon, NC, in 1951, where he owned and operated Weldon Drug Company for thirty eight years and was a very devoted member of Weldon United Methodist Church. Their union was blessed with one son and three daughters.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret Kimrey Turner, his son, Joseph Kimrey Turner of Wilson, NC; his daughters, Cindy Turner Bowman of Staunton, VA, Emmy Lou Turner Isbell of Wilson, NC, and Ginny Turner Baysden of Newport, NC. Five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon, NC.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC, Monday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to Weldon United Methodist Church or to the charity of one’s choice.

Mrs. Ellen Drewett Vaughan Whitley

Margarettsville, NC - Mrs. Ellen Drewett Vaughan Whitley, age 87, died Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Pine Forest Rest Home in Potecasi, NC.

Mrs. Whitley was born September 14, 1922 in Northampton County, NC, the daughter of the late Walter Jackson Drewett and Mary Johnson Drewett. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Russell Vaughan, a brother, Howard Drewett, and her sisters, Doris Vaughan, Eloise Joyner and Christine Whitehead.

Mrs. Whitley was a devoted member of Margarettsville Baptist Church where she had served as a deaconess.
Survivors include her husband, Samuel Elton "Dick" Whitley. Her daughter, Tammy Vaughan Flythe of Seaboard. A step-daughter, Brenda Mushtare of Virginia Beach, VA. Two grandchildren, Hillary Flythe of Winston Salem, NC, and Russell Flythe of Seaboard, NC.

Funeral services will be held, Friday, July 16, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Margarettsville Baptist Church in Margarettsville, NC, with Rev. Josh Blythe officiating. Burial will follow at Seaboard Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Thursday from 7:00 until 8:00 PM and other times at the home of her daughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pine Forest Rest Home, P.O. Box 67, Potecasi, NC 27867.

Mrs. Barbara Everette Haskins

Halifax, NC - Mrs. Barbara Everette Haskins, age 70, of Halifax, NC, died Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Duke Hospital in Durham, NC.

Mrs. Haskins was born July 21, 1939 in Halifax County, NC, the daughter of the late Monroe Everette and Selma Barnhill Everette. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Dennis Everette. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Ray Haskins. Her children, LaDorne Bradley and her husband, Ricky, Mitchell Haskins, all of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Kurt Haskins of Enfield, NC. Two grandchildren, Tonya Hasty and her husband, Chuck and Adam Bradley, all of Roanoke Rapids, NC. Three great-grandchildren, Macie Hasty, Karson Hasty and Trey Hasty. Her niece, Fran Holmes and her aunt, Hazel Proctor.

Funeral services will be held, Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, with Pastor Michael Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, Friday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM and other times at the home of her granddaughter, Tonya Hasty, 808 Raleigh Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Catherine "CAT" Maxine Kincaid

Roanoke Rapids, NC - Catherine "CAT" Maxine Kincaid, age 77, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, died Sunday, July 11, 2010 at Warren Hills Nursing Facilities, in Warrenton, NC.

Catherine was born August 29, 1932 in Pinetown, NC, the daughter of the late Jarvis Edward Waters and Marcia Florence Holliday Waters. She was also predeceased in death by her husband, Hugh Jones Kincaid, Jr. Catherine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was such an outgoing person she never meet a stranger.

Survivors include her sons, Hugh Bradley "HB" Kincaid and wife, Kim of Raleigh, NC, Theodore Edward "TED" Kincaid, Sr., and wife, Shirley of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Johnny Jarvis Kincaid of Roanoke Rapids, NC, her brothers, Marvin Waters and wife, Annabelle of Newbern, NC, Jack Waters and wife, Frankie of Newbern, NC, her sisters, Vicky Brauch of St. Louis, MI., Ginger Hardison and husband Joby of Plymouth, NC, eight grandchildren, Heather Alford and husband, Ronnie of Wendel, NC, Teddy Kincaid, Jr., and wife, Rachel of Raleigh, NC, Joseph Kincaid, Kyle Kincaid, Johnny Kincaid, Joshua Kincaid, Jonelle Kincaid, all of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Kelcey Kincaid of Raleigh, NC, one great-grandchild, Kadelyn Alford of Wendel, NC. She is also survived by her two beloved pets, Peanut and Brooks.

Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at New Testament Christian Church in Roanoke Rapids, NC, with Rev. Dale Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC, Tuesday, July 13, 2010 from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Gregory Dean Lassiter, Sr.

Aulander, NC - Mr. Gregory Dean Lassiter, Sr., age 42, of Aulander, NC, died July 1, 2010 at his home. Greg was born August 26, 1967 in Hertford County, NC.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Charlotte Diggs Lassiter.
Survivors include his wife, Donna L. Lassiter. His children, Gregory D. Lassiter, Jr., Jacob O. Lassiter, Merriel R. Liverman, Jr. and his step-daughter, Jennifer L. Odom. His father, Glenwood Ford Lassiter, Jr. His brothers and sisters, Glenn Lassiter and his wife, Nelda, Kelly Wilson and her husband, Greg, Karen Blowe, Gene Lassiter and Kim Ambrose. Thirteen nieces and nephews, three great-nieces and nephews and two step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held, Sunday July 4, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Liberty Freewill Baptist Church in Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Paul Ange officiating. Burial will follow at Job Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC, Saturday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.

Mr. William Bruce Warrick, Sr.

Jackson, NC - Mr. William Bruce Warrick, Sr., age 86, of Firetower Road, Jackson, NC, died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Guardian Care in Ahoskie, NC.
Mr. Warrick was born May 29, 1924 in Northampton County, NC, the son of the late James Carter Warrick and Pauline Lassiter Warrick. He was also predeceased by his wife, Betty Louise Warrick. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include his daughters, Cathy W. Edwards and her husband, Steve of Jackson, NC, Barbara W. Jernigan and her husband, Skip of Woodland, NC. His sons, William B. "Billy" Warrick Jr. and his wife, Beverly of Murfreesboro, NC, Richard Warrick, Jerry Warrick and Steve Warrick all of Jackson, NC. One brother, David Warrick of Greensboro, NC. Ten grandchildren, Chris Warrick of Sunbury, NC, Dan Warrick of Charlotte, NC, Chad Warrick and his wife, Farah of Walstonburg, NC, Angel W. Rawls and her husband Chad of Jackson, NC, Jo Barwick and her husband A.G. of Wendell, NC, Stephanie Sloan and her husband, Brian of Wendell, NC, Stephanie Warrick of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Matthew Lassiter of Jackson, NC, Sarah Lassiter and her husband, Mark of Conway, NC, and Don Jernigan of Woodland, NC. Ten great-grandchildren, Kyli, Bryson, and Malori Warrick, Joey Early, Hunter Early, Gavin Sloan, Ali Barwick, Jordan Barwick, Camryn Rawls, and Brayden Lassiter.
Graveside services will be held, Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Jackson Cemetery in Jackson, NC, with Rev. Bob Rogers officiating.

Peggy Ann Jones

Jackson, NC - Peggy Ann Jones, age 71, of Jackson, NC, died Thursday, June 24, 2010 at her home.

Peggy was born May 2, 1939 in Northampton County, NC, the daughter of the late James Vernon Jones and Nannie Parks Jones. She was also predeceased by a brother Raymond Jones.

Peggy graduated from Jackson High School in 1957 as class valedictorian. After graduation, she began a career, that lasted more than 40 years, in banking at the former Bank of Northampton in Jackson. Upon her retirement, she worked with Centura Bank in Jackson.

Peggy was a faithful member of Jackson United Methodist Church where she served as church treasurer and sang in the church choir for many years.

Survivors include her sister, Betty Jones Lonchar and her husband, Charles, her brothers, James Jones, Vernon Jones and his wife Ellen and David Jones and his wife, Pat, all of Jackson, NC. Her many friends including her special friend, Ben Draper of Jackson. Her nieces and nephews, Michael and Mark Lonchar, Jenny Jones, Stephanie Jones and her children, Justin and Emily, Ginger Riley and her children, Anna and Jack and Coy Bell. She is also survived by many cousins.

Funeral services will be held, Sunday, June 27, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Jackson United Methodist Church in Jackson, NC, with Rev. Barry Stallings officiating. Burial will follow at Jackson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Saturday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.

Flowers are welcomed, however memorial contributions may be made to Jackson United Methodist Church.
