Mr. Donald Arwood Little
Roanoke Rapids, NC - Mr. Donald Arwood Little, age 80, died Monday, June 21, 2010, at Liberty Commons Nursing Home in Weldon, NC.
Mr. Little was born June 6, 1930 in Halifax County, NC. He was predeceased by his parents, Clifton and Janie Little, his sister, Barbara Little Hamill. He was also predeceased in death by a special pet of 17 yrs "Bear".
Mr. Little was an army veteran and served in the Korean war and completed his service of eight years to our country with an honorable discharge. He retired from North Carolina DOT as maintenance supervisor after 28 yrs.
Survivors include special friends, Lynn Grant and children as well as many other friends.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 4:00 P.M. at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC, Tuesday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM and other times at 124 Frank Rd., Roanoke Rapids, NC.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Megan Bazzle Hoggard
Angier, NC - Megan Bazzle Hoggard, age 32, of Angier, NC, and formerly of Bertie County, NC, died Saturday, June 19, 2010 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC.
Megan was born March 29, 1978 in Edenton, NC. She was a correctional officer with NC Dept. of Corrections.
Survivors include her husband, Roy Anthony Hoggard. Her children, Royce Anthony Hoggard, Bryce Debon Hoggard and Kaelyn Trinity Hoggard. Her father, John Bazzle and her mother Cathy Dineen Bazzle. Two brothers, Justin Bazzle and Jeremy Bazzele. Her father and mother-in-law, Larry Stevenson Hoggard and JoAnn Hoggard. One brother-in-law, Steve Hoggard and one sister-in-law, Crystal Hoggard.
Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 3:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander with Rev. Christopher Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Stoney Creek Cemetery in Ahoskie, NC.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC, Monday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM and other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hoggard.

CLARA TURNER
Jackson, NC - Mrs. Clara Bell Johnson Turner, age 79, of US Hwy 158, Jackson, NC, died Thursday, June 17, 2010 at her home.
Mrs. Turner was born February 22, 1931 in Southampton County, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Sallie Baugham Johnson, Her sons Raymond G. Turner, Jr. and John Thomas Turner. Survivors include her husband, Raymond G. Turner, Sr. Her son, Jack Turner. Her brother Earl "Buddy" Johnson. Her sisters, Barbara Turner, Shirley Davis, Gladys Casper and Nannie Hoell. Four grandchildren, Gray, John, Shelby and Lucas. Five great-grandchildren, Raymond III, Amanda, Nikki, Brittaney and Daniel.
Funeral services will be held, Sunday, June 20, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Bobby Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, Saturday, June 19, 2010 from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.

Miss Imogen "Dare" Griffin
Woodland, NC - Miss Imogen "Dare" Griffin, age 94, of Woodland, NC, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, NC.
Miss Griffin was born September 26, 1915 in Woodland, NC, the daughter of the late Nathan Ephraim Griffin and Claude Joyner Griffin. She was a member of Woodland Baptist Church and she always loved the outdoors and gardening.
She is survived by a nephew, Joseph D. Motzno and his wife Nina Braswell Motzno of Rocky Mount, NC. Two nieces, Betty Griffin Martin of Florida and Frances Griffin Hoggard and her husband David of Raleigh, NC. A special friend, Bettie Jones McLean, widow of Thad Wilber McLean.
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Woodland Baptist Church in Woodland, NC, with Rev. Marcus Pond and Rev. Lemar Wheeler. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends after the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Woodland Baptist Church, Woodland Rescue Squad, or Pine Forest Rest Home.

Mr. Andrew Scott Tisdale
Roanoke Rapids, NC - Mr. Andrew Scott Tisdale, age 48, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, died Friday, June 11, 2010.
Mr. Tisdale was born December 14, 1961, in Nash County, NC. He was preceded in death by his father, John Henry Tisdale. He was retired because of being disabled, but was a former employee of Georgia Pacific and he was also an electrician.
He is survived by his daughter, Kayla Tisdale of Emporia, VA. His mother, Doris Collie Tisdale of Roanoke Rapids. His brother, Jeffrey Tisdale of Weldon, NC, and his sister Rhonda T. Allen of Roanoke Rapids, NC. Three grandchildren, Kiley Tisdale, Tyler Tisdale and Mya Jones.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 4:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids.

Mr. Grady L. Martin
Conway, NC - Mr. Grady L. Martin, age 85, of Conway, NC, died Thursday, June 10, 2010 at his home.
Mr. Martin was born April 17, 1925 in Northampton County, NC, the son of the late Uriah Martin and Mary Marinda "Molly" Britt Martin. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Martin, two brothers, Leonard J. Martin, U.E. Martin, and two sisters Brownie Martin Grant and Ruby Martin Barnes. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Milwaukee and was retired from the NC Dept. of Correction, Odom Correctional Facility and was also a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Bruce Anne Martin. His children, Timothy Lee Martin and his wife, Terry of Conway, Anne M. Edwards and her husband Keith of Pendleton, June Martin Miller and her husband, Adam of New York, Grady Lee Martin, Jr. and his wife, Shana of Conway and Clay Martin, also of Conway. His sisters, Bennie Jean Britt and her husband, Harold of Conway and Clarine Barnes and her husband, Henry of Severn. Five grandchildren, Kimberly Lynn Martin, Kristen Leigh Martin, Taylor Edwards, Hannah Miller and Alex Miller.
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Bethany United Methodist Church with Rev. Ed Drew and Rev. Bobby Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Milwaukee Cemetery.

Mr. Joseph A. Bolton
Woodland, NC - Mr. Joseph A. Bolton, age 75, of Woodland, NC, died Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, VA.
Mr. Bolton was born September 8, 1934 in Woodland, NC, the son of the late James Stanford Bolton and Beatrice Elliot Bolton. He was also predeceased by his wife, Amorette Bryant Bolton and two brothers, Jimmy Bolton and Richard Bolton.
Mr. Bolton was retired from the NC Dept. of Labor and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He also served in the US Air Force
Survivors include his daughter, Beth B. Phillips and her husband, Laverne of Woodland and his son, Jeff Bolton of Raleigh, NC. Three granddaughters, Ashleigh, Sarah Beth and Lindsay. His sisters, Mary Vaughan and her husband, Jimmy of Elizabeth City, NC, and Nancy Austin of Lasker, NC. His brother, Larry Bolton and his wife, Rachel of Suffolk, VA.
Graveside services, with Military Honors will be held, Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square, NC, with Rev. Jimmy Gerald officiating.

Mrs. Metha Louise Aycock Liles
Halifax, NC - Mrs. Metha Louise Aycock Liles, age 95, of Halifax, NC, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson, NC.
Mrs. Liles was born December 11, 1914 in Halifax County, NC, the daughter of the late Edward Linston Aycock and Armeth Liza Mohorn. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Braxton Liles, a brother William Henry Aycock and his wife, Cornelia, and William and Cornelia’s son, William R. "Billy" Aycock, who was just like a son to Louise and whose birth date was the same as the day Mrs. Liles passed away. She was a former member of Bear Swamp Baptist Church and was currently a member of Tabor United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Peggy Jean Liles Johnson and her husband, Stanley Mason Johnson of Aurelian Springs and Evelyn Louise Liles Nowell and her husband, Ernest Green Nowell of Taylors, SC. Her brother, Edward Kinston Aycock of Scotland Neck, NC. Five grandchildren, Peggy Jo Johnson Stowe, Stanley Mason Johnson Jr., Mark Joseph Nowell, Terri Lyn Nowell Wilkes and Jodie Louise Nowell Wooten. Ten great-grandchildren, Shelley Elizabeth Stowe, Anne Lynne Johnson Whitby, Joseph Liles Johnson, Christopher Taylor Johnson, Kara Renee’ Nowell, Lee Braxton Nowell, Brittany Elaine Schnyer, Brennan George Schnyer, Macy Wooten and Colby Wooten. Two great-great-grandchildren, Hailey Marie Whitby and Breanna Jade Whitby.
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Tabor United Methodist Church with Rev. Sidney Collins and Rev. Tommy Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Tabor United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Liles' niece, Paula Aycock Riggan, 18565 Justice Branch Road, Littleton, NC, Friday from 2:00 until 6:00 PM and they will also receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids Friday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tabor United Methodist Church or to Bear Swamp Baptist Church.
Mary Phyllis Fitch Fleetwood
Wake Forest, NC - Mary Phyllis Fitch Fleetwood, age 88, formerly of Seaboard, NC, went to be with the Lord on May 30, 2010.
Phyllis was born September 18, 1921 in Rice Lake, Wisconsin to Hazel LeBeouff and Earl Fitch. She was the stepdaughter of Joyce Fitch. She lived and was educated in Winter & Milwaukee, Wisconsin & later joined the Coast Guard/Navy during World War II.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Burnett Fleetwood, to whom she was married for 58 years. Phyllis & Henry met while serving in the Coast Guard/Navy in World War II and spent their lives together in Seaboard, NC. Phyllis worked at the Seaboard Post Office for many years where she made lifelong friends whom she cherished.
Phyllis will be missed by her daughters, Burnette Wiley and her husband Tom of York Town, VA and Ann Edwards and her husband Darryl of Wake Forest, NC; her grandchildren, Tricia & Tommy Wiley, who lovingly called her "Grannie" and Ashley Edwards who lovingly called her "Nana", and her sister, Gayle Spiewek & her husband Jerry of Michigan.
Phyllis will be remembered for her generosity & kindness to others, her beautiful rose bushes, her love of reading & her pets, especially Bandit.

Roanoke Rapids, NC - Mrs. Patricia Ann Gray Witt, age 75, of Roanoke Rapids, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at her home.
Mrs. Witt was born April 19, 1935 in Littleton, NC, the daughter of the late Hervie Lee Gray and Lueallie Leggett Gray.
Survivors include her husband Harvey Witt. Her children, Lue Ann Arzola, John Fitzgerald, Myra Keefer, Cheryl Van Bern and Harvey Witt II.
Her sisters, Nancy Skov, Doris Carter and Trudy Carter Currin all of Roanoke Rapids. Her brother, William E. "Bill" Gray of Chesapeake, VA.
Seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held, Friday, May 28, 2010 at 2:00 PM Fresh Fire Assembly of God Church in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Donald Gregory officiating.
