Mrs. Millie Britt Ricks
Henrico, VA - Mrs. Millie Britt Ricks, age 96, died April 22, 2010 at Henrico Health and Rehabilitation Center in Highland Springs, VA.
Mrs. Ricks was born in Seaboard, NC, January 24, 1914, the daughter of the late George Britt and Ida Allen Britt and lived in Seaboard, NC, until moving to the Varina community in Henrico County, Va. to live with her son in 1988 following the death of her husband of forty six years, John Floyd Ricks. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Bernice, Fara Rae, Freda and her brothers Clayton, Woodrow and Randell. She was a member of Galatia Baptist Church.
Millie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Suzanne Hula Ricks, two grandsons, Barry Ricks (Lisa) and Bart Ricks (Tania) and four great-grandchildren Brandon, Lori, Brenten and Brylea.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 25, 2010 at 3:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home, 839 Jackson Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC, with Rev. Lonnie Armstrong officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 PM prior to services at the funeral home.

Mr. Carroll G. Conner
Cofield, NC - Mr. Carroll G. Conner, age 66, passed away April 20, 2010 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, surrounded by his family.
He was predeceased by his wife, Miriam Mitchell Conner and a brother Johnny Ray Conner. He was well-known for his craft, upholstery.
Mr. Conner is survived by his sons Kevin Conner of Hatteras and Keith Conner of Tyner, his daughters, Jennifer Brock and Sherri Lassiter of Ahoskie. His grandchildren, Kristen, Brandon, Payton, Lauren, Dustin, Jackson, Charlie, Hayden, Devan, Bailey, Andrew and Hannah. His brothers, James W. Conner of Williamston and William (Billy) Conner of Aulander. His father-in-law, John L. Mitchell of Ahoskie. His sister-in-law, Nancy Conner of Aulander, brother-in-law, Gene Mitchell and wife Patti and sister-in-law, Ann Blake and husband John.
Graveside services will be held, Friday, April 23, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Aulander Cemetery with Rev. Paul Ange officiating.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, Thursday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM.

Mrs. Ruby Evans Boone
Virginia Beach, VA - Mrs. Ruby Evans Boone, age 92, of Virginia Beach, and formerly of Roanoke Rapids, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010.
Mrs. Boone was born September 28, 1917 in Warren County, NC, the daughter of the late T.R. Evans and Bessie Morris Evans. She was also predeceased by her Husband, Robert Boone, a brother, Willie Gray Evans, two sisters, Virginia Weaver and Mildred Carter and also a great-granddaughter, Alexia Thompson.
Mrs. Boone was a registered nurse and was a graduate of the Roanoke Rapids School of Nursing. She was a member of Talbot Park Baptist Church in Norfolk, VA.
Survivors include her daughter, Faye B. Curl and her husband David of Norfolk, VA; her son Robert T. Boone and his wife Jennifer of Littleton, NC; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Emerson and her husband B.J., Jennifer Thompson, James Boone, Aaron Boone; four great-grandchildren, Michelle Stafford, Cody Thompson, Max Thompson, and Jordan Emerson.
Graveside services will be held, Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Littleton, NC, with the Rev. Mike Currin officiating.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home, 839 Jackson Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC, Friday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM.
Mrs. Minnie Tinkham Lassiter
Millennium, NC - Mrs. Minnie Tinkham Lassiter, age 83, of Millennium, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Guardian Care in Ahoskie, where she had resided. With loving care for the past two years.
Minnie worked several years as a seamstress in area factories and later at home, crafting many beautiful handmade quilts. As a homemaker, she was skilled in the art of preparing traditional southern meals. A Loving wife and mother, she devoted her life to caring for her family. She loved the Lord, and all His creatures, taking in many stray cats and giving them a home. She was a member of Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Willard and Sallie Overton Tinkham, her brothers, James, Odie, Cheese and Hallie Tinkham, and her sister, Maris Perry. Also preceding her are her husband of 54 years, Willie A. Lassiter, and a stillborn son.
Left with cherished memories are her son, Billy Lassiter of Millennium and his friend, Betsy Overton of Powellsville, her daughter and son-in-law, Sallie and Bryan Lewis of Union, a special sister-in-law, Alice Faye Lassiter of Millennium and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held, Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Job Cemetery with Rev. Sandy Outlaw and Rev. Taylor Lathan officiating.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, Tuesday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM and other times at the home of Alice Faye Lassiter in Millennium.

Mark Eric Baggett, Jr.
Aulander, NC -- Mark Eric Baggett, Jr., age 16, of Aulander, NC, and formerly of Wilmington, NC, died Friday, April 9, 2010, in a motor vehicle accident.
Eric was born March 3, 1994, in Wilmington, NC. He was a student at Bethel Assembly Christian Academy in Askewville, NC, and loved to play baseball and basketball. Eric loved sports, especially baseball and was a great catcher, following the footsteps of his father Mark.
He loved his Christian school, his friends and his teachers, as well as Pastor Bobby "Papa", at Living Word in Leland and all the members. He loved life and never met a stranger. Eric always, without effort displayed love, kindness and compassion to small children and animals, as well as the elderly and sick.
Eric's charm and great personality assisted him as a young child to become Little Mr. Wilmington and Mr. Brunswick County Christmas. Though loved by the multitudes for his mischievous grin and kindness, all who knew him felt his devotion to his parents and God. Eric never hesitated showing love. His favorite saying "show me some love mama", was demonstrated in front of friends and family.
Eric will be missed every single day we breath, yet we know he will be waiting for all of us in heaven as he watches Carolina win.
Survivors include his parents, Mark Eric Baggett Sr. and Debra Price Baggett. His grandfathers, Paul R. Price of Leland, NC, and Jesse Baggett of Holden Beach, NC. His aunts and uncles, Doria Walker, Douglas Price, Lee Price, Aggie Baggett. His cousins, Christina Mayhew, Jessie Beckworth, Jennifer Cooper, Keith Price, Alex Baggett, and Daniel Baggett.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 11, 2010, at 3:00 PM at Askewville Assembly of God Church with Rev. Roy O. Denton, Rev. Chris Howerton, Rev. Webb Haggard and Michael Hill officiating.
The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 PM prior to services at the church. A second service will be held Monday, April 12, 2010, with visitation beginning at 5:00 PM at Living Word Full Gospel Fellowship Church. A service will follow visitation with Rev. Bobby Wilson officiating.
Graveside services will be held, Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at 11:00 AM at the Price Family Cemetery in LeLand, NC.

Mr. Steven Stutmann
San Diego, California - Mr. Steven Stutmann, age 28, of San Diego, California, died Wednesday, March 31.
Steve was born in New Jersey.
He served in the US Navy and was a certified airplane mechanic.
He is survived by a uncle, Ken Stutmann of Roanoke Rapids, NC.
A memorial service will be held, Friday, April 17, 2010 at 2:00 PM at The Church of The Savior in Jackson, NC.
Arrangements are being handled by Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids.
Mrs. Lueallie Leggett Gray
Roanoke Rapids, NC - Mrs. Lueallie Leggett Gray, age 100, of Jackson Street, Roanoke Rapids, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at home.
Mrs. Gray was born March 29, 1910 in Williamston, NC, the daughter of the late James Leggett and Mary Lou Wobbleton Leggett. She was also preceded in death by her husband Hervie Lee Gray.
Survivors include four daughters, Nancy Skov, Doris Carter, Patricia Ann Witt and Trudy Carter Currin, all of Roanoke Rapids. Her son, William E. Gray and his wife Vickie of Chesapeake, VA. Three sisters, Ruby L. Ivey, Hazel L. Smith and Helen L Bryant, all of Roanoke Rapids. Her brother, Albert Leggett of Halifax, NC. Twenty three grandchildren, thirty eight great-grandchildren, twenty eight great-great-grandchildren and six great-great-great-grandchildren. Also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held, Friday, April 2, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Margaret Horrell and Rev. Donald Gregory officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, Thursday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.
Mr. Julian House
Enfield, NC - Mr. Julian House, age 88, of Enfield, NC, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Bethesda Health Care Center.
Mr. House was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Bobbitt House.
He was a World War II Veteran and served in the Army Air Corp.
He was also a Mason and a Shriner.
Graveside services will be held, Monday, April 5, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Elmwood Cemetery in Enfield, NC.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital.
Mrs. Katie Reese Conner Neville
Roanoke Rapids, NC - Mrs. Katie Reese Conner Neville, age 83, of Roanoke Rapids, died Sunday, March 28, 2010.
Mrs. Neville, was born July 6, 1926, in Warren County, NC, the daughter of the late Rufus Reese and Rosa Norwood Reese. She was also preceded in death by her husband Samuel Neville, her brothers Tom, Clifford Joe, Willie Reese and her sisters, Nellie Johnston, Maggie Eason and Edith Strickland.
Katie devoted her early years to raising her children and the neighborhood children. She was a stay at home Mom, babysitter and a seamstress. After all the children grew up, she went to work at Hardee’s on East Tenth Street in Roanoke Rapids, then to Burger King on Weldon Road and finally to Wendy’s. She loved working the dining room, talking with all the people that came in. She loved seeing the children, and even after her memory faded on some things, she could still remember the children’s names. In 1986 she retired because of her husband’s declining health.
In 1997, Katie help form an organization, known at that time as Elderly Homeowners Assistance. She operated the Thrift Store at 1500 Marshall Street, where she met and became close to so many people. In 2007, she had to give this job up due to declining health.
Katie was a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church, but had been attending New Testament Christian Church with one of her daughters for the past year.
Her greatest loves in her life was her God, her family, flowers and her vegetable garden.
Leaving behind to cherish her memory are daughters, Joyce Burnette and her husband Charles and Priscilla Dorer and her husband Ricky, all of Roanoke Rapids. Her step-son, Jack Waters of Indianapolis, Indiana. Her two grandsons, Charles Burnette Jr. and his wife Amy and Joe Burnette and his wife Jessica, all of Roanoke Rapids. Five grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, Ethan, Dalton, and Ashley. Her sisters, Mollie Whittemore, of Greensboro, NC, and Estelle Williams of Williamston, NC.
She also had an extended family, Josh, George, Toni and Crystal Hardison. She also had some special nieces, which included Linda Hobbs, Gloria Pearson, Wendy Lucy and Sally Seward.
Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids with Minister Dale Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home, Tuesday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM and other times at the homes of her daughters.

Miss Hilde Joseph
Enfield, NC - Miss Hilde Joseph, age 84, of Enfield, NC, died Friday, March 19, 2010 at Nash General Hospital.
Miss Joseph is survived by two cousins, Carol Meyer of Enfield, NC, and Ann Kramer of Washington, DC.
Graveside services will be held, Sunday, March 21, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Elmwood Cemetery in Enfield.
The family will receive friends at the home of Carol Meyer in Enfield.
