Mr. Kenneth Alton Long, Sr.
Seaboard, NC - Mr. Kenneth Alton Long, Sr., age 69, died Friday, September 2, 2011.
Mr. Long was born November 22, 1941, the son of the late Kenny McIver Long and Rosie Barnes Long.
He retired from the Norfolk Naval Ship Yard as a supervisor, was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Churchland, VA, a member of the Galatia Hunt Club and Taylor’s Mill Fish Club.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela Leigh Long. His son Ken Long of Franklin, VA. His granddaughter, Stephanie Long. Many cousins including O.C. Barnes and Billy Barnes.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 5, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Mount Carmel Baptist Church with Rev. Craig Janney officiating. Burial will follow at the Barnes Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Sunday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Carmel Baptist Church.
Mr. Maury Dalton Coston
Littleton, NC - Mr. Maury Dalton Coston, age 86, of Bluebird Point, Littleton, NC, died Monday, August 29, 2011 at his home.
Mr. Coston was born January 30, 1925 in Richlands, NC, the son of the late James Paul Coston and Zannie Patrick Coston. He was also preceded in death by his wife Lula C. Coston.
Mr. Coston was a genuine wood craftsman in the Roanoke Valley for many years and owner of Coston Cabinet Works in Roanoke Rapids. He was a member of Lakeview Park Baptist Church and Victory Baptist Church.
Survivors include his sons, Dennis Coston and his wife Diane of Cape Coral, Florida and Doug Coston and his wife Susan of bangor, Maine. His brother, Alvin Coston of Greenville, NC. Also six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 1:00 AM at Victory Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Doug Gross officiating.
Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids Wednesday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Sally Hobbs Brown
Chase City, VA - Sally Hobbs Brown, 74, passed away August 25, 2011 at her home in Chase City, VA.
Sally was born March 21, 1937 in Elams, VA. The daughter of the late Octavia Bell Conner Carroll and Willie Carroll. She was also preceded in death by her four brothers Lawrence, Lenard, Prince and William Carroll.
Survivors include her two daughters Betty Spradlin and husband Richard of Milwaukee, NC and Tammy Harvey of Chase City, VA; Her three sisters Nellie Reese of South Hill, VA, Dorothy Sanderson of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Juanita Styon of Wilson, NC; Her seven grandchildren Katherine Edwards, Victoria Edwards, Stephanie Edwards, Courtney Edwards, Matthew Gillespie, Hayley Gillespie and Jesse Gillespie; Her one great-granddaughter Emma McElwee.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 29, 2011 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC with Rev. Jeffrey Clemens officiating. Burial will follow in Fountain Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Brink, VA.
The family will receive friends Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM.

James Elwood Futrell, Sr.
Lasker, NC - James Elwood Futrell, Sr., age 68, of Lasker, NC, passed away August 19, 2011 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
James was born February 17, 1943 in Northampton county North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his father Iven Elwood Futrell.
Survivors include his mother Sarah Elizabeth Chappell Futrell of Rich Square, NC; His wife Donna Gibbs Futrell of Lasker, NC; His son James Elwood Futrell, Jr. and wife Betsy of Raleigh, NC; His daughter April Futrell Pulliam and husband Jerry of Lasker, NC; His three grandchildren Heather Futrell Silva, Samantha Marie Pulliam and Zachary Lane Pulliam; His two great-grandchildren Aaliyah Janae Silva and Arianna Elizabeth Silva; His two sisters Lillie Futrell Joyner of Suffolk, VA and Sandra Futrell of Summerville, SC.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of James Futrell will be held at a later date.

Zenobia White Collier
CHESAPEAKE - Zenobia White Collier, 98, died on August 17, 2011. She will be remembered for her Christian love as a wife, mother, grandmother, friend and companion; her compassion for the sick and the love of children; her positive outlook in the face of difficulties; and her sense of humor. She was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, Sunshine Club, and Mrs. Carry Pratt’s Sunday School Class.
Zenobia Collier was born August 30, 1912 in Jackson, NC to the late Joseph W. White and Dora Pritchard White.
Zenobia Collier was predeceased by her sisters Maude White Vaughn, Mary Archer Latimer, and Verlie Lynch Hussey, and brother Joseph L. White. Zenobia Collier was married June 27, 1929 to Clarence Raymond Collier, who preceded her in death in 1997. She was predeceased by two daughters, Madelyn Collier Morrow and Charlotte Ann Collier. She is survived by a son, Ronald L. Collier (Linda) of Raleigh, NC. Zenobia Collier was very proud of her 5 grandchildren: Michael Anthony Morrow (Beth) of Chesapeake, Christopher James Morrow (Molly) of Virginia Beach, Terry Morrow Collier of Peoria, AZ., Kayce Collier Petty (Wesley) of Raleigh, NC and Matthew Durham Collier of Greenville, SC. She has 12 great-grandchildren: Mandy Woods Chitwood (William), Tiffany Woods, Daniel Woods (Whitnee), Lisa Morrow Doran (Shawn), Lindsey Morrow Rossen (Chris), Amber Morrow Vegas, Erika Morrow, Jesika Morrow, Lisa Joy Morrow, Christopher Morrow, Sydney Petty, and Madelyn Petty. Zenobia Collier has 10 great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives who knew of her love.
The family extends our grateful thanks to Ginnefer Mattera, her care-giver, advocate and companion; and care-givers Jerry Allison, Tramisha Williams and Tammy Green. Their love and care made her life so worthwhile over the past two years.
The funeral and celebration of Zenobia Collier’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Heritage United Methodist Church, 815 Baker Road, Virginia Beach, VA. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM followed by the service at 11:00 AM.
Burial will be that afternoon at 3:00 PM at Lasker Cemetery, Lasker, NC.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make a memorial donation to Heritage United Methodist Church or to a charity of their choosing.

Mr. Melvin Edward Moseley Jr.
Weldon, NC - Mr. Melvin Edward Moseley Jr., age 84, of Weldon, NC, died Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Guardian Care of Roanoke Rapids.
Mr. Moseley was born August 26, 1926 in Northampton County, NC, the son of the late Melvin Edward Moseley and Essie Martin Moseley Price.
He was also predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Moseley Daniels.
He was a US Army veteran and served his country during World War II. He retired from Elks Oil Company, with over forty years of service and was a retired member of the Weldon Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Jacobs Moseley. His daughter Lisa Moseley Turner of Halifax, NC. His son Craig Moseley and his wife Lynne of Roanoke Rapids. His grandchildren Chelsea Turner of Halifax and Kaitlin Moseley of Roanoke Rapids. A sister, Grace Moseley Scruggs of Newport, TN. Also many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Wallace Spragins officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon, NC.

Violet Parker Hollowell
Windsor, NC - Violet Parker Hollowell, age 72, of Windsor, NC, died Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Three Rivers Nursing Home in Windsor, NC.
Violet was born April 21, 1939 in Bertie County, NC, the daughter of the late Scarborough Parker and Annie Morris Parker Fairless. She was a retired registered nurse.
Survivors include her aunt, Jessie Mae Jenkins of Potecasi, NC and several cousins and a niece. A graveside service will be held Friday, August 5, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Edgewood Cemetery in Windsor, NC with Rev. Marie Jones officiating.

Mr. Robert Earl "Bobby" Futrell, Sr.
Rich Square, NC - Mr. Robert Earl "Bobby" Futrell, Sr., age 76, died Friday, July 29, 2011 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC.
Mr. Futrell was born July 17, 1935 in Northampton County, NC, the son of the late William Roger Futrell and Josie Ruth Askew Futrell. He was also preceded in death by His sisters and brothers, Daphne Futrell, Judith Barnes, Henry Futrell, William Futrell and Peggy Ann Futrell.
He was retired from Mylecraft, a member of Rich Square Baptist Church and was a Mason and a member of the American George Lodge 0017 in Murfreesboro, NC.
Survivors include his wife Peggy Askew Futrell. His son, Robert Earl Futrell Jr. and his wife Laurie of Cary, NC. His grandsons, Jordan, Connor and Noah Futrell, all of Cary, NC. His brothers, Buck Futrell of Rich Square, NC and Bernie Futrell and his wife Kay of Jackson, NC.
Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Rich Square Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square, NC.

Roanoke Rapids, NC - Mr. Donald Ray Malone, age 62, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, passed away July 28, 2011 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Malone was born February 2, 1949 in Halifax County, NC, the son of the late Thomas Benjamin Malone and Hattie Finch Malone. He was a US Marine Veteran.
Survivors include his wife Jean Malone of Roanoke Rapids, NC; One son Kenneth Phelps of Roanoke Rapids, NC; Two sisters Gloria Ellis and husband Bill of Gaston, NC and Derenda Clements and husband Bobby of Gaston, NC; One granddaughter Kay-la Crickmore of Roanoke Rapids, NC also several nieces and nephews.

Gaston, NC - Lisa Marie Seuis Wright, age 38, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2011. Lisa was born December 5, 1972 in Roanoke Rapids, NC. She was pre-deceased by her grandparents William and Elizabeth Seuis and her sister Tammy Seuis Kidd.
Lisa was a member of Victory Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and also taught "The Masters Club" on Wednesday night was a teacher’s assistant at Halifax Academy.
She is survived by her husband Jeffery S. Wright and her sons, William C. Wright and Jackson E. Wright all of the home. Her parents William J. Seuis and Virgie Farmer Seuis of Roanoke Rapids.Her sister, Cora Seuis Mulder and her husband John of Conway, NC. Her maternal grandparents, Brady and Ada Farmer of Council, VA. Five nephews and one brother-in-law Jeff Kidd of Warrenton, NC. Also her extended family at Victory Baptist Church and Halifax Academy.
Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Victory Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Michael Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
