Alexander "Alec" Knox
Gaston, NC - Alexander "Alec" Knox, age 84, of Gaston, NC, passed away July 19, 2011 at Guardian Care of Roanoke Rapids, NC. He was born on December 18, 1926 in Martin County North Carolina, the son of the late Will. L. Knox and Mary Isabell Ayers. Alec was also predeceased in death by one brother and two sisters.
Alec loved his fruit trees but his passion was gardening. He loved riding his tractor and he also was a good friend too a lot of people. Mr. Knox was U.S. Navy Veteran and was proud to serve his country.
Survivors include his wife Margaret Louise Hurst Knox of Gaston, NC; His two sons, Dwight Knox and wife Debbie of New York and Ben Knox of Nevada; His daughter Patricia Catalina and husband Al of New York; Five grandsons and eight great-grandchildren; His two sisters, Carrie Louise Knox of Washington, NC and Maude Knox also of Washington, NC.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 11:00 AM. in the chapel of Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC with Rev. Tony Smith and Rev. Norwood Starling officiating. Burial will follow in Robersonville Cemetery at 2:00 PM. in Robersonville, NC.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 22, 2011 from 7:00 PM. until 8:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Alton Martin Robinson
Roanoke Rapids, NC - Alton Martin Robinson, age 72, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, passed away July 13, 2011 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Alton was born January 14, 1939 in Halifax County North Carolina the son of the late Rufus R. Robinson and Mildred Zeiler Robinson. He was predeceased in death by his three sisters Kathryn Robinson Myrick, Helen Robinson Floyd and Julia Robinson Newsome; a brother Robert L. Robinson and a nephew Robin Murray.
Mr. Robinson was a US Air Force Veteran. He retired from the Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District and was a member of Rosemary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his sister; Margaret Ann Robinson Murray of Roanoke Rapids, NC; His brother Charles Stanley Robinson and wife Sandra of Roanoke Rapids, NC; Five nieces Kathryn Ann Murray, Lori Robinson Medlin, Lisa Robinson Allen all of Roanoke rapids, NC and Ann Jacobson and Kay Cary.; His four nephews Chuck Robinson of Raleigh, NC, Christopher Robinson of Pantego, NC, Bobby and Tommie Floyd. He was also survived by many great-nieces and nephews " His little sweethearts, Garrison and Mira Medlin, Emily Robinson and Jack Quinn.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Rosemary Baptist Church with Dr. Layne Wallace officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 15, 2011 at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M. which is handling the arrangements.
Sarah Beatrice Hudgins
Enfield, NC – Sarah Beatrice Hudgins, age 89, of Enfield, NC, died Monday, July 11, 2011 at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount, NC.
Miss Hudgins was born October 6, 1921 in Halifax County, the daughter of the late A.E. Hudgins and Clara Smith Hudgins. She was also predeceased by her sister, Irene Harlow and three brothers, James Hudgins, Ernest Hudgins, and Bennie Hudgins. She was a faithful member of Enfield Baptist Church for many years and worked for many years at Rose’s in Enfield.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Keeter and Nellie Armstrong, both of Enfield, NC. Many nieces and nephews including, Sandra H. Moss of Louisburg, NC, Janie H. Hamilton of Youngsville, NC and Johnnie M. Hall of Greenville, NC.
Funeral services will be held, Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Enfield Baptist Church with Rev. Kerry Peeler officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Enfield.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Enfield, NC, Wednesday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM.
Mrs. Mary Lou Holmes Rice
Jackson, NC - Mrs. Mary Lou Holmes Rice, age 72, of Jackson, NC, died July 6, 2011 at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC.
Mrs. Rice was born December 25, 1938 in Savona, Ohio, the daughter of the late Stanley Arthur Holmes and Myrtle Loretta Hartrum Holmes. She was also predeceased by her son, Christopher William Rice.
Survivors include her husband William Clayton Rice. Her daughters, Deborah Wary and her husband Linc of Roanoke Rapids, Angelina Davina and her husband Scott of Conway, NC and Joan Ellen Rice of Florida. Her grandchildren, Kevin, Christina, Nathan, Paul, Jeff and Robert. Five great-grandchildren. Twelve brothers and three sisters.
A memorial service will be held, Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Galatia Baptist Church with Rev. David Foster officiating.
The family will receive friends at the J.W. Faison Senior Center in Jackson, NC immediately following the service.
Arrangements are being handled by Massey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Maggie Sykes Gay
Seaboard, NC - Mrs. Maggie Sykes Gay, age 96, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Halifax Regional Medical Hospital in Roanoke Rapids.
Mrs. Gay was born February 14, 1915 in Northampton County, NC, the daughter of the late John Addison Sykes and Caroline Boone Sykes. She was also predeceased by her husband Dewitt C. Gay, a son Merrell Gay, her sisters, Lucy Ann Williamson, Ruth S. Storey and Mary S. Ricks and her brothers John S. Sykes, Merritt Sykes, Rufus P. Sykes and A. Burton Sykes.
Mrs. Gay was a member of Galatia Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School for over fifty years and a member of the Galatia Home Demonstration Club.
She is survived by her children, Lynmore Gay and his wife Shirley, Joann Gay Ricks and her husband Henry of Roanoke Rapids and Sue Gay of Seaboard, NC. Her daughter-in-law, Raye Gay of Conway, NC Seven grandchildren, Derona Gay Schuler (James), Darlene Gay Draper (Fred), Roslyn Gay, Jason Gay Candace), Marianna Burnette (Randall), Robert Henry Gay III. (Vickie) and Nicholas Gay (Amanda). Six great-grandchildren Erin D’Arco, Lindsey and Noah Burnette, Clinton and Caroline Gay and Ava Gay. One great-great-grandchild, Reagan D‘Arco.
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Galatia Baptist Church with Rev. David Foster and Rev. Lonnie Armstrong officiating. Burial will be private at the Gay Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 8, 2011 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC.

Stephen Clayton Love, Sr.
Roanoke Rapids, NC - Stephen Clayton Love, Sr., age 49, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, died June 29, 2011 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, NC. Stephen was born July 2, 1961 in Halifax County North Carolina.
Stephen had a great love for the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing and animals.
Survivors include his parents Clayton and Penny Love of Roanoke Rapids, NC; His wife Teresa Ricks Love of Roanoke Rapids, NC; His two daughters April Perez and Husband Salvador of South Dakota and Lindsay Parsley of Roanoke Rapids, NC; His son Stephen Clayton "Buster" Love, Jr. of Roanoke Rapids, NC; His four step-children James, Melissa, Joshua and Carlton all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; His seven grandchildren Aaron Love, Chris Mortel, Ruben Mortel, Sonya Mortel, Stephanie Mortel, Gavin Parks and Alaina Parsley; His brother Doug Love and wife Sabrina of Roanoke Rapids, NC; His sister, Kathy McKenzie of Roanoke Rapids, NC; His niece Crystal "Cricket" McKenzie; His two nephews Brett Love and James McKenzie of Roanoke Rapids, NC.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 3, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC with the Rev. James Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Love Allen family Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Willoughby Parker
Ahoskie, NC - Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Willoughby Parker, age 71, of Ahoskie, NC, died Thursday, Jun 30, 2011 at her home.
Mrs. Parker was born March 10, 1940 in Hertford county, NC, the daughter of the late Elbert Willoughby and Nanny Helen Adkins Willoughby.
She was also predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Jean Willoughby, Eddie Willoughby, Helen Willoughby McPherson, Jackie Willoughby Parker and Earl Willoughby.
She is survived by her husband Carlton O. "Bill" Parker, her son, Ronald Lee Parker of Ahoskie, her sister, Katie W. Hyatt of Ahoskie, NC, and her brothers, Bill Willoughby of Wilson, NC, and Philip Willoughby of Statesville, NC.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC.

Mrs. Nancy Dowles Clary
Roanoke Rapids, NC - Mrs. Nancy Dowles Clary, age 70, died Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Clary was born February 26, 1941 in Weldon, NC, the daughter of the late Edward Thomas Dowles and Lydia Mae Knox Dowles. She was also preceded in death by her first husband Lonnie "J.B." Edwards and her second husband Rufus Clary, her brothers Charles Dowles and Samuel Dowles and a sister, Hazel Dowles.
She is survived by her sister, Minnie Dowles Merritt of Weldon, NC. Her nieces, Connie Merritt Pernell, Mary Williford, Paula Pepper and Michelle Blanton. Her great-nephews and nieces, Lee Merritt, Bobby Acree, Roger Liverman, Jr., Rebecca Reed, Travis Pepper, Crystal Pepper, Mike Dowles, Matthew Blanton and Dillon Blanton.
Arrangements are being handled by Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids.

Roanoke Rapids, NC - Mr. John Robert Babb, Sr., age 83, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

Carolyn Mae Wilson
Roanoke Rapids, NC - Carolyn Mae Wilson, age 63, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
Carolyn was born December 24, 1947 in Littleton, NC, the daughter of the late Bryant Wilson and Carrie Lee Jenkins Wilson. She was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir. For many years Carolyn worked at WPTM Radio Station where she had a Sunday Morning Gospel Program.
She is survived by her children, Angela Curl and her husband Tommy of Littleton, NC, Jason Rook and his fiancé Tracy Sable of Roanoke Rapids, N, Michelle Rook Turner and her husband Jim of Halifax, NC and Chris Rook of Las Vegas, Nevada. Her very special friends, Murphy Myrick, Sr. of Roanoke Rapids and Betty Ferguson of Roanoke Rapids. Her grandchildren, T.J. and Joshua Curl, Tyler and Jacob Rook, Nate Sable, Justin Kidd, Megan Rook, Ryan and Chelsea Turner. Her sister, Gerleen Pitchford and her husband Edward of Littleton, NC. Her brother, Kenny "Blimp" Wilson also of Littleton, NC. Two nephews, Eddie and Bryant Pitchford.
Funeral services will be held, Monday, June 20, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC with Rev. Mike Little officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Littleton, NC.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home Sunday from 4:00 until 6:00 PM and other times a the home of her daughter, Michelle Rook Turner.

Peggy Price Taylor
Roanoke Rapids, NC - Peggy Price Taylor, age 60, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, died Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
Peggy was born March 9, 1951 in Halifax County, NC, the daughter of the late Berry Edward Price and Susie Tidwell Price. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Michael Stanley Price. She graduated from Weldon High School was retired from J. P. Stevens and Company.
Survivors include her children, Tony Casper Jr. and his wife Gina and Nicole Garner and her husband Ted, all of Roanoke Rapids, NC. Two brothers, Ronnie Price and Wayne Price and his wife Nancy all of Roanoke Rapids. Seven grandchildren, Harley, Sabre, Lauren, Fiona, Ian, Tripp and Callen. Her aunt, Connie Jones. Her niece, Michelle Price. Her nephews, David and Michael Price. Also very special friends, Linda and Edward Dickens.
Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 4:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids with Pastor Michael Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon, NC.
