SANFORD - Funeral for Carl David Hooker, who died Friday (5/21/04), was held Tuesday at the Knotts Funeral Home in Sanford.
Scripture was read by the Rev. Willard Neal Jr. The Rev. Mamie Wilson gave a prayer of comfort. Walter Hatcher sang. Acknowledgments were by Beverly Floryanzia. Elder Curtis Boykin gave the eulogy.
DOLORES ROHM
SILER CITY - Dolores Wolf Rohm, 79, of 120 Moore St., Siler City, died Friday (12/3/04) at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
She was a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., and was retired from McDonald's Restaurant.
Surviving are daughters Jacquelyn Johnson and husband Terrence of Siler City and Mary Gesicki of Buffalo, N.Y.; sister Florence Bodner of Florida; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

BROADWAY - Harry Ray Harrington, 58, of 824 McFarland Road, Broadway, died Friday (12/3/04) at New Hanover Hospital in Wilmington.

SANFORD - Eulogistic services for Randy "Pie" Laverne McKendall, who died Monday (11/29/04), were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at First Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Thomas Smith officiating.
Participating in the service were Dr. Thomas Smith, Pastor Helen Cotton, Pastor Virginia King, Tracey Stewart, Elaine Adams, Terry McKendall and Wilbur Williams.
Floral bearers were Ebony McAuley, Rayshonda McAuley, Darica McAuley, Regina McAuley, Barbara Sellers and Jackie Thomasan.
Pallbearers were Andrew Clegg, Chris Crawford, Demetrea Gray, Jeff Petty, Jerome Petty and David Upchurch. Honorary pallbearers were Chris Dorsett, Walter Ferguson Jr., Pier Grier, Fred Lawson, Dan Stringfellow and Kent Thompson.

LILLIAN WEST
LILLINGTON - Lillian Atkins West, 91, of Lillington, died Thursday (12/02/04) at Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dunn.
She was the daughter of the late Neil and Gertrude McArtan Atkins, and was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph West, and sons Neill Turner West and James Stewart West.
Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Greenwood Cemetery in Dunn with the Rev. L.E. Godwin officiating.
Surviving are daughter, Deborah Purdy-West of Lillington; sons, Robert Earl West of Garner and Rudolph Lee West of Virginia; 13 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home and other times at her home.

VERNA MACKEY
PITTSBORO-Verna Whitaker Mackey, 96, died Wednesday (12/01/04) at The Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.
Verna was born Jan. 2, 1908 in Port Deposit, Md.; the only child of Joseph W. and Mary Jane Whitaker. She was educated in the schools in Port Deposit, Md. Verna was married to William Mackey, who preceded her in death in 1988. She and Mr. Mackey moved to Pittsboro from Sykesville, Md. in 1971. During her career, she worked as a practical nurse for the Perry Point, Md. Veteran's Administration Hospital. Mrs. Mackey was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth June Benson of Fond Du Lac, Wis., and Avis Elaine Autry of Pittsboro; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.
The graveside service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Verna Mackey will be conducted by the Rev. Simons and Pastor Ray Gooch at 3 p.m., Saturday at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church Cemetery in Pittsboro.
The family will receive friends following the service.

THOMAS WOMBLE
LILLINGTON-Thomas "Tommy" J. Womble, 68, died Thursday (12/02/04) at his home.
Mr. Womble retired from Weyerhauser and dedicated the remainder of his life to his family and community. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roberson and Evie Holder Womble.
Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Spring Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Keith Miller and the Rev. David Yarborough officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Joyce M. Womble of the home; son, Thomas A. Womble and wife, Diane T., of Lillington; daughter, Deanna Ray and husband, James, of Lillington; brother, Mack Womble and wife, Dot, of Cameron; sister; Rebecca Yarborough and husband, Archie, of Sanford; 4 grandchildren, Caroline Womble, Christian Ray, Millicent Womble and Blake Ray.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home, Lillington; and other times at his home.

SHENNEL R. MCKENDALL
PITTSBORO - Funeral service for Shennel R. McKendall, 37, of 612 Mitchell Chapel Church Road, who died Monday (11/29/04) at UNC Hospital, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church in Pittsboro by the Rev. Kenneth Brooks. Burial will follow at the Mitchell Chapel Church Cemetery.
She was born in the Bronx, N.Y., youngest child of Lawrence and Joyce McCrimon. She was employed by UNC-Chapel Hill.
Surviving, other than her parents, are her daughter Janay White of the home; stepsons, Shaad Toomer of Sanford and Nicholas Douglas of the home; brothers Charles and Andre McCrimon of the Bronx, N.Y.; sisters Delsey McCrimon of Beaufort, S.C., and Tabitha McCrimon of the Bronx, N.Y.; and grandmothers Mary Helen Dark of Pittsboro and Marie Hampton of Danville, Va.
Family hour will be from 1 to 3 p.m. before the service at the church.

LOIS GRAHAM
SANFORD - Funeral for Lois Goins Graham, 60, who died Thursday (11/25/04), was conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at McQueen Chapel United Methodist Church in Lemon Springs by Minister William E. McIver Jr., the Rev. Larry Robinson, the Rev. Johnson and Gloria Tart. Music by Justice Griffin and the church choir. Interment was at the McQueen Chapel church cemetery.
Floral bearers were nieces and friends of the family.
Pallbearers were Jeff Petty, Jerome Petty, Phillip McIver, Billy Joe Simmons, Melvin McIver and Gary Simon.
