LILLINGTON -Maggie Bell McLean, 86, of 616 Moores Chapel Road, died Monday (8/16/04) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.
Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Oak Grove AME Zion Church in Erwin by Pastor Anthony Davis and Dr. A.L. Ferguson. Burial will follow in Riverside Community Cemetery.
Surviving are daughters, Elizabeth A. McNeill at home, and Dorothy M. Witten of Woodbridge, Va.; sons, William D. McLean and wife Juanita of Seymour, Conn., and Jimmy L. McLean and wife Andrea of Lillington; brothers, David McNeill and wife Lois of Erwin and Alfred McNeill and wife Betty Jean, all of Greensboro; sisters, Mary Ruth Rainey of Seattle, Wash., and Alice Blue of Dunn, 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Dafford Funeral Home Chapel in Dunn.

SANFORD - Funeral for Billy Thurn "Gator" Gladden Jr., 53, of 2982 Pickard Road, who died Sunday (8/15/04), was held Thursday at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home by the Rev. Roger Thomas and the Rev. Garland Foushee. Burial followed in Ephesus Baptist Church cemetery.
Soloist was Teresa Baker. Recorded music was played.
Pallbearers were Jeff Barnett, Wayne Bowen, Timothy Chase, Steven Cox, Marvin Hart and Michael Johnson.
Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

SANFORD - Dwynne Reginald Cole, 51, of 1716 Carr Creek Drive, died Monday (8/16/04) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tempting Congregational Church by the Rev. P.L. Hawes. Burial will follow in Lee Memory Gardens.
Surviving are his wife, Ella Cole; a daughter, April Cole of Sanford; a son, Reginald Cole and wife Covonnada of Sanford; a stepson, James Emerson; and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 1716 Carr Creek Drive.

ETHEL McCOY
SANFORD - Ethel Lee McCoy, 86, of 1115 Carthage St., died Tuesday (8/17/04) at Convalescent Center of Lee County.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of God, Broadway, by Pastor Melvin Hayden and the Rev. Donnie Pratt. Burial will follow in the Church of God Cemetery, Olivia.
Surviving are a daughter, Earnestine Swann of Sanford; sisters, Dessie Murchison of Olivia, Cassie Gaston and husband Charles and Marie Bell and husband Ollie; a brother, Theodore Cameron of Springfield, Mass.; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of Dessie Murchison, 215 J.D. Murchison Lane.

SANFORD - Lula Mae McDougald, 84, of Pinehurst, died Thursday (8/19/04) at Pinehurst Health and Rehabilitation Center, Pinehurst.

SARAH CALIHAN
SANFORD - Sarah Aydelotte Calihan, 88, of Carolina Trace died Wednesday (8/18/04) at Duke Hospital in Durham.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was the librarian. She was a 20-year volunteer at Central Carolina Hospital and volunteered with the Blood Drive. She was a member of the Carolina Trace Country Club. She was an avid gardener, past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star and Mother Adviser of the Rainbow Girls. She was a graduate of Otterbein College and Miami University. She taught in the Greenville, Ohio, and Dayton, Ohio, public school systems from 1938 to 1975 and was named Teacher of the Year. She was very active at Fairview UMC in Dayton while she was there.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dr. Carl Rush.
She is survived by as son, Dr. David S. Calihan of Farmville, Va., and two grandchildren, Heather Lee Calihan of Greensboro and Sean David Calihan of Farmville, Va.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the home, 192 Traceway.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the First Presbyterian Building Fund or the Library Fund, 203 Hawkins Ave., Sanford, N.C. 27330.

SANFORD - Shirley J. Cameron, 68, of Sanford died Wednesday (10/6/04) at Central Carolina Hospital.
Born in Lee County, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Woodrow R. Bennett; her mother, Mildred Berryman Bennett; and her father, Willie Eugene Ingram.
Requiem mass will be held at 10 a.m. today at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home by Father Kenneth Novak. Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Olivia Presbyterian Church by the Rev. George Walton and the Rev. Sandy Williams. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are a son, Gary Cameron and wife Tammie of Olivia; daughters Terri Cameron Hornfeck of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Diana Ellis and husband Chuck of Tramway and Joan Schwendeman and husband Greg of Apex; sisters Dot Shaner of Pittsboro and Sandy Gaskins of Raleigh; and seven grandchildren.

BEAR CREEK - Nathaniel Goldston, 46, of 865 May's Chapel Road died Tuesday (10/5/04) at his residence.
Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Taylor's Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his mother, Mary Elizabeth Goldston of the home; a son, Nathaniel Brim of the home; a daughter, Amissa Farris of Raleigh; stepsons Jamarl J. Alford and Harry Paulk, both of New York; a stepdaughter Regina Radcliff of New York; sisters Annie Brim, Elizabeth Headen, Enda Louise Goldston, Carolyn Brim, all of Bear Creek, and Mary L. Brower of Pittsboro; brothers Johnny Lee and Raymond Sr., both of Bear Creek and Robert Goldston Sr. of Pittsboro; seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no wake.

ABERDEEN - Montez McAllister, 73, of Aberdeen died Monday (10/4/04) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Full Gospel Holiness Church, Aberdeen, by Overseer Angeline Sumpter. Burial will follow in the Berkley Cemetery.
Surviving are a son, Larry McAllister and wife Angela of Southern Pines; daughters Rona McAllister and husband Chester of Southern Pines, Jennifer Thomas and husband Odell of Pinebluff and Kelly Johnson of Aberdeen; brothers Fred McAllister of Southern Pines and Alex McAllister and wife Agnes and Johnny McAllister and wife Diane, all of Aberdeen; sisters Rosezine Hill of Aberdeen and Mary Ray of Pinebluff; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

GODWIN - Joan Gates Upchurch, 56, of Godwin died Wednesday (10/6/04).
She was a daughter of the late Bernice Gates.

Surviving are her husband, Elbridge Ray Upchurch; a daughter, Regina Upchurch of Falcon; a son, Kenneth Ray Upchurch and wife Lisa of Falcon; her mother, Johnsie Kelly of Sanford; a brother, Bernell Gates and wife Bonnie of Sanford; sisters Helen Eadie and husband Barry of Sanford and Kaye Gates of Smithfield, Va.; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

LILLINGTON - Ida McDonald Dean Wallace, 95, of Lillington died Tuesday (10/5/04) at Brookfield Retirement Center in Lillington.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest L. Dean, and her second husband, J.M. Wallace; two sons, Ray Dean and Cecil Dean; and a grandson.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Ephesus Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Bertrand Pitchford and the Rev. Wayne Schlink. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are sons T.L. Dean and wife Stacy, Lexie Dean and James Dean and wife Pat, all of Lillington; stepsons Norman, Richard and Weldon Wallace; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
