SANFORD - Funeral services for Viola Ash Elliott, 56, who died Monday (7/14/03), were held Thursday at Rogers Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Steve Rosser. Burial followed in Rocky Fork Christian Church cemetery.
During the service the Rev. Steve Rosser played the guitar and sang.

ROANOKE, Va. - Monroe Marsh, 74, died Monday (7/28/03) in Roanoke, Va.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Centennial AME Zion Church in Bear Creek.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Blackwell Funeral Home in Graham.

MILDRED ROGERS
LILLINGTON - Mildred Evelyn Andrews Rogers, 84, of Lillington, died Tuesday (7/29/03) at Betsy Johnson Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edd Earl Rogers and a brother, Arnold Andrews.
A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Westview Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Bobby Butler. Burial will follow.
She is survived by a daughter, Debbie Hart and husband Roy of Lillington; a son, Don Rogers and wife Louise of Lillington; sisters, Mary Andrews of Burlington, Elizabeth Alexander of Morganton and Frances Kimrey of Graham; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home.

SANFORD - Graveside service for Tracy Oliver Poe, 77, of 311 Temple Ave., who died Monday (7/28/03), was held Wednesday at Lee Memory Gardens by the Rev. Eugene Powers, Marlean Hatcher and Cecil Lovick.
Soloists were Daniel Cleary and Marlean Hatcher.
Pallbearers were James Cameron, Tony Cameron, Kevin Jones, Ronnie Davis, Len Lassiter and Mike Cooper.

SANFORD - Funeral services for Ruby Pattishall Sloan, 88, of 223 Eleventh St., who died Sunday (7/27/03), were held Wednesday at Zion Christian Church by the Rev. Steve Johnson, the Rev. John Paschal, and the Rev. Keith Miller. Burial followed in Shallow Well Cemetery.
Organist was Gerri Hearn. Pianist was Becky Johnson. The congregation sang. Teresa Pilson and Van Johnson sang. The Zion Christian Church choir sang. Van Johnson, Teresa Pilson and Dewitt Baker sang at the graveside.
Pallbearers were Todd Arnold, James Paschal, Mike Holthouser, Graydon Thomas, Alan Sloan, and Edward Coggins.

SANFORD - Funeral services for Lamont McIver, 63, of Sanford, who died Saturday (7/26/03), were held Wednesday at Fair Promise AME Zion Church by Dr. Sherwin O. Greene Sr.

Old Testament reading was by Minister Iris Jordan. New Testament reading by Minister Terry Bristow.
Prayer of comfort was given by Minister James O. McLean. Soloist was Kym McLean. Reflections were by Joyce F. Hawkins. Acknowledgements were by Edith C. Cox and eulogy by Dr. Sherwin O. Greene Sr.
Pallbearers were the Steward Board of James Varick Brotherhood Lay Council.

BEAR CREEK - Funeral services for Betty Sue Phillips Rives, 65, of 8240 Old Highway 421 South, who died Saturday (7/26/03), were held Tuesday at Goldston Baptist Church with the Rev. David Hicks and the Rev. Woodrow Whitt officiating.
The church choir sang. Frances Phillips was the organist and Terry Smith was the pianist.
Pallbearers were Gary Scott, Julian Smith, Bryan Jourdan, Jerry Gaines, Dwight Hicks and Coy Caudle. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City.

SILER CITY - Dorothy Duncan Whitley, 67, of Pinehurst, died Wednesday (10/15/03) at HCR Manor Care, Pinehurst.
She was a children's photographer for J.C. Penny and was a homemaker.
Graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Oakwood Cemetery
Surviving are a brother, Michael Duncan of Southern Pines; a sister, Patsy D. Forster of Ranch Mirage, Calif.; two aunts, four nieces and a nephew.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home.

CLYDE HUNTER
SOUTHERN PINES - Clyde Hunter, 83, of 357 E. Pennsylvania Ave., died Wednesday (10/15/03) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Southern Pines.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday First Missionary Baptist Church, Southern Pines. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Southern Pines.
Surviving are daughters, Helen Faison and Eula Pritchard, both of New York, Barbara Walker of Fayetteville, Brenda McLaughlin of Carthage and Marcia Monroe of Southern Pines; sons, Clyde Hunter Jr. of New York, and Joseph Hunter of Sanford; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Simon Funeral Home Chapel.
DOLPHUS PRICE
CAMERON - Dolphus L. Price, 84, of Cameron, died Tuesday (2/10/04) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
A native of Falkville, Ala., he was the son of L.B. and Lela King Price. He was a pastor and evangelist for 65 years for churches in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Pennsylvania and Tennessee. He attended Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Bob Jones University in Greenville and Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga. He received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity, Doctorate of Letters and Doctorate of Humanity.
He was preceded in death by a son, Donnie.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie Prosser Price; a daughter, Rebekah Mills of Birmingham, Ala., sons, Bradley Price of Charlotte, Phillip Price of Pensacola, Fla., and David Price of Nashville; a sister, Corinne Payne of Falkville, Ala.; and 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Local services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Yates-Thaggard Baptist Church in Whispering Pines, conducted by Pastor Steven Johnson, Dr. Steve Swagger, Dr. Bradley Price and Dr. David Price. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 9 a.m.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Highland Park Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tenn. Interment will be in Lakewood Memorial Gardens East in Chattanooga.
