MAGOLENE GODWIN
BROADWAY - Magolene Godwin, 87, of 11250 McDougald Road, died Tuesday (2/10/04) at home.
A Lee County native, she was a daughter of the late Shelly V. Godwin and Fannie Cameron Godwin.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Olivia Presbyterian Church by the Rev. George Walton. Burial will be in Cameron Grove Cemetery.
She is survived by a son, Larry Godwin and wife Vickie of Broadway; sisters, Lela Harrington of Broadway and Catherine Coley of Sanford; three children; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m today at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
JOSEPH PILZAK
SANFORD - Joseph George Pilzak, 52, of Sanford, died at his residence.
He was retired from the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant with more than 20 years of service and was a Vietnam veteran. He was a member of the Spout Springs Volunteer Fire Department and served on the board.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m Friday at the Spout Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Buffalo Lakes Road, Spout Springs.
He is survived by his mother, Bernice Pilzak of Manitowoc, Wis., and brothers, Robert Pilzak of Two Rivers, Wis., and William Pilzak of Gambrills, Md.
Arrangements were made by Rogers & Breece Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
ZELDA THOMAS
SANFORD - Zelda Wylanza Thomas, 54, of 316 McIver St., died Monday (2/9/04) at Central Carolina Hospital.
Born in Lee County, she was preceded in death by her father, Harvey McKinley Thomas. She was a member of the Freewill Holiness Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home by the Rev. Steve Rosser, the Rev. Garland Foushee and the Rev. Pearl Castleberry. Burial will be in Grace Chapel cemetery.
She is survived by her mother, Katherine Ann Hughes Thomas; brothers, Iley Thomas and wife Patricia and Maylon Thomas, all of Sanford; sisters, Phyllis Owens and husband Carl and Judy Tarpey and husband David, all of Sanford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

MAXINE CLARK
CARTHAGE - Maxine Pressley Clark, 64, of Carthage, died Tuesday (210/04) at UNC-Hospitals IN Chapel Hill.
A native of Moore County, She was the daughter of the late Brady and Opal Bowles Pressley. A homemaker, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Clark.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Priest Hill Presbyterian Church by Rev. Michael Herring. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She is survived by daughters, Amy Martin of Charleston Air Force Base, S.C., and Cindy Whitaker of Holly Springs; sons, Larry Clark and Daniel Clark, both of Carthage; brothers, Eugene Pressley and Richard Pressley, both of Carthage; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home.

Broadway - Paul Moore Magill Sr., 87, of 116 Magill Drive, Broadway, died Sunday (2/8/04) in Fayetteville.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at Broadway Baptist Church by the Rev. Clyde Johnson. Burial followed in the Broadway Town Cemetery.
Pallbearers were G. Tracy McNeill, Paul R. Magill, Jeremy Kerr, Joel Kerr, Chris Magill and Steven Patterson.
Ruth Sutherland was pianist. Sutherland, Ray McNeill, Joe Gendics, Fred Spivel and Carl Elkins sang.
Arrangements were by Smith Funeral Home.
MARY PENDERGRAFT
APEX - Mary Grace Farrell Pendergraft, 77, of 217 Mt. Pisgah Church Road died Sunday (2/8/04) at Western Wake Hospital in Cary.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church by the Rev. Joe B. Zimmerman, the Rev. Buddy Johnson and Dr. James Willingham. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were George Pendergraft, George Fuller, Jimmy Cash, Pete Farrell, Leon Goodwin and Woody Farrell.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the N.C. Highway Patrol and area law enforcement officers.
Ann Farrell was organist and Odell Yates sand.

Siler City - Funeral for Shellie Lynn Collins Sanders, 23, of 611 Buck Gunter Road, who died Sunday (2/8/04), was held Wednesday at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church by Dr. Greg Poplin.

Soloist was Rudy Freeman.

LINDEN - Bernice Jimmy Byrd, 67, of Linden, died Tuesday (4/13/04) at his home.
He was employed with the Fayetteville Observer and retired after 37 years of service.
Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at Antioch Baptist Church by the Rev. Martin Groover. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Janero Johnson Byrd of Linden; a daughter, Carolyn Cannady and husband Ray of Linden; son, Franklin Byrd and wife Kimberly of Linden; mother, Bertha Dennis and husband Wright of Lillington; brothers, Bobby Byrd and Jerry Byrd, both of Lillington, and Herman Byrd of Broadway; sisters, Hazel Thomas of Greensboro and Margaret Turner of Lillington; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home in Lillington.

SPRING LAKE - Nelsie Boggs, 66, of 204 S. Conner Circle, died Friday (4/9/04) at Cape Fear Valley Hospital.
Funeral will be held at True Vine Reasoning Center by Bishop Jobe and Hattie Lathan. Burial will be in William Chapel Cemetery.
She is survived by daughters, Gwendolyn Scurry and husband Vince of Spring Lake, Phyllis Savage of Ellendale, Del., and Sharon Boggs of Lincoln, Del., and a sister, Evelyn Nesmith of Garner.

SANFORD - Funeral services for Mary Gilmore Wicker, who died April 11, were held Wednesday at the Miller-Boles Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Mark Klass. Burial was in Lee Memory Gardens.
