GODWIN - Joan Gates Upchurch, 56, of Godwin died Wednesday (10/6/04).
She was a daughter of the late Bernice Gates.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home by the Rev. Edward Allen and the Rev. Thomas Willoughby. Burial will follow in Harnett Memorial Park.
Surviving are her husband, Elbridge Ray Upchurch; a daughter, Regina Upchurch of Falcon; a son, Kenneth Ray Upchurch and wife Lisa of Falcon; her mother, Johnsie Kelly of Sanford; a brother, Bernell Gates and wife Bonnie of Sanford; sisters Helen Eadie and husband Barry of Sanford and Kaye Gates of Smithfield, Va.; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home and at other times at her residence.
IDA WALLACE
LILLINGTON - Ida McDonald Dean Wallace, 95, of Lillington died Tuesday (10/5/04) at Brookfield Retirement Center in Lillington.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest L. Dean, and her second husband, J.M. Wallace, and two sons, Ray Dean and Cecil Dean.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Ephesus Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Bertrand Pitchford and the Rev. Wayne Schlink. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are sons T.L. Dean and wife Stacy, Lexie Dean and James Dean and wife Pat, all of Lillington; stepsons Norman, Richard and Weldon Wallace; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home and at other times at her residence.

L.D. MARSH
SILER CITY - L.D. Marsh, 64, of 622 Gees Grove Road died Sunday (10/3/04) at Chatham Hospital.
A native of Chatham County, he was a retired employee of Boling Chair and Chatham Novelty.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Gees Grove AME Zion Church by the Rev. Allen Moore. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Eddie Lee Marsh; sons Jackie T. Marsh of Clanton, Ala., Larry D. Marsh of Waco, Texas, and Michael Marsh and Issac Marsh, both of Pittsboro; a daughter, Beverly M. Burnett of Pittsboro; a sister, Dorothy Toombs of Aberdeen, Md.; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Friday at the church.

CAMERON - Funeral for George Elvin McElveen, 72, of 2540 Pilson Road, who died Sunday (10/3/04), was held Wednesday at Hunt Springs Baptist Church by the Rev. Billy Crabtree and the Rev. Mike Oldham. Burial followed in Lee Memory Gardens with full military rites.
Organist was Sherry Pruette and soloists were Vickie McElveen and Mike Cooper.
Mike Cooper, Billie Cooper and Norma Jean Gunter also sang.
Pallbearers were Gene Carmack, Gregg Dixon, Brian Bradshaw, Brian Langley, E.C. Waddell and Jesse Tillett.

SILER CITY - Eddie Junior Nettles, 39, of Siler City died Saturday (12/25/04) at UNC Hospitals.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity United Holy Church. Burial will follow in Chatham Memorial Park.
Surviving are wife, Della Mae Nettles of the home; daughters, Jessica Nettles and Edwina Nettles; sons, Eddie Nettles Jr. and Joshua Nettles; sisters, Jacqueline Miller and husband Jeff of Spring Lake and Manda Williams and husband Walter of Fuquay-Varina; brothers, Yonce Nettles and wife Nia of Raleigh, Timothy Nettles of Clayton, Theodore Nettles, Alexander Nettles, Charles Nettles and DeThabon Nettles all of Siler City; six aunts; two uncles and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Surviving are parents, Kevin and Ashley Johnson of the home; maternal grandmother, Michelle Webb and husband Speedy of Mamers; maternal grandfather, Larry L. Godfrey of Olivia; maternal great-grandparents, Louis and Maxine Godfrey of Sanford; maternal step-great-grandparents, Starr and Sherrel Webb of Mamers; paternal grandmother, Gail W. Medlin and husband Gary of Lillington; paternal great-grandmothers, Doris W. Wood and Edna Johnson, both of Lillington.

SANFORD - Funeral services for Louise Cameron Webb were held Monday at Cameron Grove AME Zion Church. Burial followed in Lee Memory Gardens.
Scripture was read by the Rev. Gerald Lee and Annie Lee. Prayer was given by N.M. Douglas. Minnie Ragland and the Rev. Jones gave acknowledgments. Samuel Johnson was the musician.
Floral bearers were Jeanie Foxx, Minnie Ragland, Sheilinell Feaster, Willie Mae Holmes, Mary Womack and Diane Chubbs. Pallbearers were Alvin Marshall, Robert Covington, Sorrell Saunders, Samuel Ragland, Archie Judd Jr. and Elbert McLean.

The Rev. James Brandy read the scripture. Prayer was given by the Rev. Larry Robinson. Pam Hooker and the Rev. Gerald Cole gave acknowledgments. Doris Matthews and Wilford Steadman sang.
Pallbearers were Bill Cranford, William Barnett, David Foxx, Jesse Page, Michael Reaves, William Snipes and Bennie Thompson.

SANFORD - Funeral service for Sarah Katherine "Sadie" Hall Riddle, 94, of 219 Charles Riddle Road, who died Saturday (12/25/04), was conducted Monday at the Sanford Church of God by the Rev. Eugene Powers and Marlean Loftis. Graveside service was conducted Tuesday at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Wes Holmes.
Musicians were Britton Altman, Anita Leggette, Ashley Altman and David Overton. Sandra Rosser and the church choir sang.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, Wayne Riddle, Gary Riddle, Jeff Poindexter, Mark Rackley, Jimmy Solomon and David Boyd. Honary pallbearers were all other grandsons and great-grandsons.

SANFORD - Funeral service for Kathleen Hurley Nunnery, 80, of 143 Durgin Springs Road, who died Friday (12/28/04), was conducted Tuesday at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Houston Blair. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Musicians were Ralph Wayne Harrison and Debbie Morrison. April Smith, the church choir and the congregation sang. Annie Dunn read a poem.
Pallbearers were Jerry Nunnery, Ricky Nunnery Jr., Brian Medlin, Jeffrey Branch, Joel Langdon and Carl Iceman. Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Branch and Keith Branch.
