GOLDSBORO - Ann Whitley, of Goldsboro, sister of Helen Gorham of Sanford, died Thursday (10/16/03) at Brian Nursing Home, Goldsboro.
Funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, Goldsboro, by Evangelist Helen Gorham.
Also surviving are three other sisters.
Arrangements are by Hamilton Funeral Chapel and Gardens, 423 S. James St., Goldsboro.

HAROLD ROUSE
NEW BERN - Harold Walter "Popeye" Rouse, 62, of New Bern, brother of Wayne Rouse of Broadway and Grady Rouse of Olivia, died Wednesday (10/15/03) at Craven Regional Medical Center.
He was a member of the Harbor Light Community Church. He retired from Hatteras Yachts in 1996.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cotten Chapel by Pastor David Harris. Burial will follow in the New Bern Memorial Cemetery.
Also surviving are his wife, Louella Langston Rouse, two sons, a daughter, three other brothers and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Cotten Chapel and at other times at 724 Billy Drive, New Bern.
CLYDE PARTIN
BUNNLEVEL - Funeral for Clyde Rudolph Partin, 63, of Bunnlevel, who died Tuesday (10/14/03), was held Thursday at O'Quinn-Peebles Chapel by the Rev. Jessie Benson. Burial followed in Harnett Memorial Park in Lillington.
Organist and vocalist was Cindy Buchanan. Duets were performed by Donnie and Margie Drake.
Pallbearers were Tony Brown, Scott Salmon, Danny Pruitt, Mike Jones, Jake Matthews and Stanley Thibeaux.
Arrangements were by O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home.
CLARA MURRAY
SANFORD - Clara Spivey Murray, 78, of Sanford, died Thursday Oct. 16, 2003, at Central Carolina Hospital.
The family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the parlor at First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church Chapel by the Rev. Eric Porterfield. Burial will be at Buffalo Cemetery.
Mrs. Murray was the daughter of the late Ira Page and Lennie Alma Caines Spivey. A graduate of Flora McDonald College, she taught second grade in Bladen and Columbus counties for several years, then she also taught at McIver School, Warren Williams, and Jonesboro schools in Sanford for more than 20 years.
Mrs. Murray is survived by her husband, Raymond B. Murray Jr.; a son, Raymond B. Murray III, wife Laura and their daughter Cordilia of Durham; two daughters, Jan Murray Reid and husband Thomas and their children Brian and Katherine of Wilmington, and Paige Murray Stewart and husband Jerry of Charlotte.
Members of the Gleaners Sunday School Class are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers and should meet at the church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church, 202 Summit Drive, Sanford, N.C. 27330 or to the charity of one's choice.

BOBBY TART
YANCEYVILLE - It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our loving father, Bobby J. Tart. He went on to his heavenly home Oct. 16, 2003. He had recently been a patient at Duke Hospital in Durham and at Danville Regional Med Center in Danville, Va.. We would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff who provided him with the utmost care during this most difficult time.
Bobby was a native of Caswell County, born April 17, 1947, as the son of the late Alease Jackson Creech and the late Jasper J. Tart of Benson.
Bobby attended school in Benson and later moved to Sanford. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a combat infantryman for the 1st Battalion Airborne No. 327 Infantry, where he received the Infantryman's Badge and the Metal of Honor. He later married his wife of 35 years, Linda Ann Collins Tart of Yanceyville, who survives. He was employed by Fluor Global and Progress Energy Roxboro plant, where he was a highly respected electrician and trusted coworker and friend.
In addition to his wife, of the residence, he is survived by four sons, Mike Collins of Pelham, Gary Knight of Danville, Tim Tart of New Bern and Bobby Lane Tart of Yanceyville; a brother, Ray Tart of Sanford; two sisters, Linda Tomsack of Oriental and Betty Teal of Benson; and 10 grandchildren, who all miss him greatly.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Harrelson Funeral Home in Yanceyville, and at other times at the residence, 764 Main St.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home, Sanford, by the Rev. Daryl Campbell. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Cemetery.

ZELDA THOMAS
SANFORD - Zelda Wylanza Thomas, 54, of 316 McIver St., died Monday (2/9/04) at Central Carolina Hospital.
Born in Lee County, she was preceded in death by her father, Harvey McKinsley Thomas. She was a member of the Freewill Holiness Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home by the Rev. Steve Rosser, the Rev. Garland Foushee and the Rev. Pearl Castleberry. Burial will be in Grace Chapel cemetery.
She is survived by her mother, Katherine Ann Hughes Thomas; brothers, Iley Thomas and wife Patricia and Maylong Thomas, all of Sanford; sisters, Phyllis Owens and husband Carol and Judy Tarpey and husband David, all of Sanford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
HELEN HARRINGTON
SANFORD - Helen Bowie Harrington, 89, of 1801 Wicker St., died Monday (2/9/04) at Parkview Retirement Home.
Born in Iredell County, she attended the nursing program at the Medical College of Virginia. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Cary where she lived for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Hayes Harrington.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Casey Chapel of St. Luke United Methodist Church by the Rev. Michael Coppock. Graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Hillcrest Cemetery, Cary.
She is survived by a son, Thomas Franklin Harrington of Richmond, Va.; daughters, Nancy Harrington Bell of China Grove and Toni Harrington Rouse of Sanford; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

SANFORD - Funeral service for Rodney Flack Johnson Harrill, who died Saturday (2/7/04), was conducted Tuesday at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Eric Porterfield and Dr. Del Parkerson. Burial followed in Buffalo Cemetery.
During the service, Patricia Langston played the organ and the Rev. Sharon Howell UpDyke sang.
Pallbearers were H.R. Haire, Larry Haire, Chris Harrill, Tom Joyner, Johnny Walker and Lonnie Watts.

AGNES McDONALD
BUNNLEVEL - Funeral service for Agnes Colville McDonald, 68, who died Saturday (2/7/04), was conducted Tuesday at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Roy McLamb and the Rev. Bert Pitchford. Burial was in Flat Branch Presbyterian Church cemetery.
Vocalists were Henry Wilkins and Dorothy McLamb. Pallbearers were Steven Arnold, Bradley Arnold, Robert Colville, Tim Holland, Chris Mason and Chris Shaffer.
JEWEL BROOKS
PITTSBORO - Jewel Justice Brooks, 92, of Hillside Dairy Road, Pittsboro, died Tuesday (4/13/04) at her residence.
Born Aug. 7, 1911 in Chatham County, she was a daughter of Tommie Otis and Daisy Straughn Justice. Prior to her marriage, she received teacher's certificates in 1930 from East Carolina Technical College, now East Carolina University, and in 1932 from Appalachian State Technical College, now Appalachian State University, and taught school for one year. During their marriage, Jewel was a homemaker and helped operate the family dairy farm. She was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church, where among other things, she taught both children's choir and Sunday school, adult Sunday school and was active in the WMU and later in the Prime Time Seniors group.
She was preceded in death by husband, Edward Nix Brooks; her parents; one son, Donald Perry Brooks; a sister, Evelyn Love; and by two brothers, T.C. and Clayborn Justice.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law: Tommie W. and Margie Brooks of Pittsboro, David E. and Cathy Brooks of Elk Grove, Calif.; two daughters and sons-in-law: Etta B. and Earl Thomas of Pittsboro, Trudy B. and Nelson Sturdivant of Pittsboro; one brother and sister-in-law, William Harold "Bill" and Agnes Justice of Indianapolis, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Brooks' life will be conducted by Rev. Steve Moore and Rev. John Robert Bouldin at 2 p.m. Friday at Emmaus Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Guests may call on the family 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the church and at other times at the residence of Tommie and Margie Brooks.

SANFORD - Memorial services for Benjamin Irvin Mcgowan Jr., who died Dec. 27, 2003, and Charlotte Nance Temple McGowan, who died Dec. 28, 2003, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Casey Chapel at St. Luke United Methodist Chuch conducted by the Rev. Michael Coppock.
