JOSEPH MUELLER Jr.
SILER CITY - Joseph "Joe" Lee Mueller Jr., 80, of 1004 Driftwood Drive died Monday (10/4/04) at Chatham Hospital Inc., Siler City.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, 314 N. Second Ave., Siler City, by the Rev. Jim Wall. Burial, with military rites, will follow in Tyson's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Bear Creek.
Joseph Lee Mueller Jr. went to be with his Savior peacefully in his sleep while at Chatham Hospital Monday, Oct. 4, 2004.
Mr. Mueller was a native of White Plains, Ky., but he always said his heart was in El Paso, Texas. He was retired from the United States Army, where he served in Japan, Korea, Germany and the Philippines. Joe was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star.
Joe made his home in Chatham County, where he served as district commander of the Boy Scouts of America under the Occoneechee Council. Joe was retired from Kellwood Manufacturing and Kayser Roth Corp., where he served as industrial engineer. Refusing to accept retirement, Joe was the owner-operator of Mueller's Transportation, operating a cab service and then a transit for dialysis and mental health.
Joe was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was an assistant Sunday school teacher and founder of the men's breakfast.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Leroy C. and Jeanette O. Mercier. A devoted husband, loving and caring father and friend to many, Joe is survived by the following: his wife, Frankie Cockman Mueller; sons Terry Mueller of China Grove and Jeff Mueller and Bryant Kidd, both of Siler City; daughters Judi M. Martin of Burgaw and Becky Jordan of Siler City; grandchildren Bryan Jordan, Jayme Jordan, Robert Dixon, Courtney Mueller, Ashli Rhiner, Cathy Smith, Melinda Rau, Joseph Mueller and Emilee Mueller; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Ave., Siler City, and at other times at the family home.

JUANITA PATTISHALL
SANFORD - Juanita Baker Pattishall died Tuesday at Frye Medical Center in Hickory.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Miller-Boles Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery.
Surviving are a son, Glenn Pattishall and wife Anita of Hickory; two grandchildren, Jennifer Pattishall and Geoffrey Pattishall; a sister, Frances Smith and husband Dowe of Sanford; a brother, Robert M. Baker and wife Jeannine of Southern Pines; nieces and nephews, Tim Smith of Sanford, Susan Smith and Robert, Michael and David Burns, all of Vero Beach, Fla., Alicia Knoll and Billy Baker, both of Cary, Lee Wood of Raleigh and Robert M. Baker Jr. of Fayetteville.
The family will receive friends from 1 until the funeral time of 2 p.m. Friday at Miller-Boles Funeral Home.
MARY POE
BROADWAY - Mary Joyce Kelly Poe, 80, of 203 Watson Lake Drive died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at her home.
She was born in Lee County on March 31, 1924, the daughter of the late Charles Oscar Kelly and Mamie Elizabeth Kelly Kelly.
Surviving are her husband, Reid Poe; a son, Mickey Poe and wife Donna McNeill Poe of Broadway; two grandchildren, Candace P. Blackburn and husband Paul and Matthew Dean Poe; and two great-grandchildren, Carson Blackburn and Logan Blackburn.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Broadway United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ray Brooks. Burial followed in the Broadway Town Cemetery.
Lynne Green sang and Shirley Buchanan was pianist.
Pallbearers were Donald R. Kelly, Barry Thomas, Clyde Atkins, Aubrey Spivey, Charles Atkins and Herbert Lett.
The family received friends Monday evening at the Smith Funeral Home in Broadway and at other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Broadway United Methodist Church, 106 Church St., Broadway, N.C. 27505.

GEORGE McELVEEN
CAMERON - George Elvin McElveen, 72, of 2540 Pilson Road, Cameron, died Sunday (10/3/04) at Central Carolina Hospital.
Born in Florence County, S.C., he was a son of the late George Bradley McElveen and Ella Mae Cook McElveen. He was preceded in death by a son, George "Ricky" McElveen, and four brothers, Pete, Marvin, Melvin and James McElveen. He was a member of Hunt Springs Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant and served in the Korean Conflict.
Funeral, with military rites, will be held at 11 a.m. today at Hunt Springs Baptist Church by the Rev. Billy Crabtree. Burial will follow in Lee Memory Gardens.
Surviving are his wife, Edna Shoemake McElveen; daughters Molly McElveen, Cissy McElveen and Sandy McElveen, all of Cameron, and Pam McElveen and Elizabeth M. Norris, both of Sanford; and grandchildren Adam Yarboro, Nick McElveen, Amanda McElveen, Aaron McElveen, Tiffany McElveen and Carrie Norris.

VINCENT CHISHOLM
SANFORD - Vincent Edward Chisholm, 36, of 1535 Winslow Drive, died Saturday (10/30/04) in Siler City.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at New Ben Salem Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are a son, Vincent E. Chisholm Jr.; sisters Dwana McNeill, Crystal McSwain and Kimberly McSwain, all of Siler City, and Amanda Brooks of Burlington; brothers Chad Chisholm of Siler City and Ricky Brooks and Robert Brooks III, both of Burlington; and his grandmother, Ethel Mae Chisholm of High Falls.

DONALD FITZPATRICK
SANFORD - Donald "Don" Ralph Fitzpatrick, 74, of 302 Arlington Circle died Monday (11/1/04) at his residence.
Born in Ila, Ga., he was a son of the late Ralph Fitzpatrick and Eva Tiller Lamb. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty B. Fitzpatrick, and by a grandson. He was employed by Gordon's Potato Chip Co. for 20 years and retired as regional manager at Cliff Weil, where he worked for 17 years. He was a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school superintendent.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cool Springs Baptist Church by the Rev. Ira Sutton and the Rev. Donald Thompson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Juanita Dismukes Fitzpatrick; sons Donald Stephen Fitzpatrick of Raleigh, Mark Fitzpatrick and wife Roxanne of Olivia, Daniel Fitzpatrick and wife Denette, Dan Fowler and wife Joan and Scott Fowler, all of Sanford; daughters Dianne Bullard and husband Arthur and Pamela Gunter and husband Randy, all of Sanford, and Susan Brelewski and husband Ingo of Charlotte; brothers Robert M. Fitzpatrick of Carnesville, Ga., Jimmy Fitzpatrick of Georgia, and Edward Fitzpatrick of Lebanon, Tenn.; a sister, Faye F. Hobson of Tennessee; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

SANFORD - Kenta Mandez Fox, 25, of 609 W. Garden St. died Friday (10/29/04) at her residence.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Roy and Johnnie Faye Fox.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Minter Cemetery.
Surviving are brothers Jessie Fox Jr., Kareem Fox and Chanta Fox, all of Sanford, and Tim Fox and wife Angelique of Atlanta; a sister, Tara F. Jefferies and husband Rex of Sanford; and his grandmother, Alice Fox of Sanford.

SANFORD - Jewell Cooper Kurus, 78, of Sanford died Monday (11/1/04) at Laurels of Chatham.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Turner's Chapel by the Rev. Bruce MacInnes and the Rev. Reid Dickens. Burial will follow in Lee Memory Gardens.
Surviving are sons Lee Littiken and Glen Kurus, both of Sanford, and John Kurus Jr. of Raleigh; daughters Daphne Littiken of Sanford and Denise Titus of Jackson, N.J.; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

WANDA McINNIS
ABERDEEN - Wanda Kay Nurnberg McInnis, 47, of Aberdeen died Tuesday (11/2/04) at her residence.
Born in Sanford, she was a daughter of Leroy and Kathryn Fuquay Nurnberg. She worked for many years as a home health nurse with St. Joseph of the Pines.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Boles Funeral Home in Seven Lakes by the Rev. Eugene Ussery.
Also surviving are daughters Wanda Nichole Farris of Southern Pines, Stephanie Bridgett Reese of Pinebluff, Jasmine Lynette Reese of Aberdeen and Paula Ellen Reese of the home; a sister, Julia Hendrick of Seven Lakes; brothers Carl LeRoy Nurnberg of Columbia, Mo., and James Wayne Nurnberg of Seven Lakes; and three grandchildren.

LILLINGTON - Daniel Lee Franklin, 33, of Raleigh died Tuesday (11/2/04) in an automobile accident.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rebecca Gray Pope Franklin.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lakeside Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Stancil Baucom.
Surviving are his father, Ronald Lee Franklin of Buies Creek; a sister, Wendy Carol Franklin of Wilmington; his stepmother, Susan O'Neal Franklin of Raleigh; and an aunt.
