MARY PENDERGRAFT
APEX - Mary Grace Farrell Pendergraft, 77, of 217 Mt. Pisgah Church Road, died Sunday (2/8/04) at Western Wake Hospital in Cary.
A native of Chatham County, she was a daughter of Glenn Farrell and Mary Farrell Jenkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clabon H. Pendergraft.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church by the Rev. Joe Zimmerman. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She is survived by a daughter, Merrell Lane of Apex; sons, Steve Robert Pendergraft of Pittsboro, Franklin O. Pendergraft of Prospect Hill, and Randy R. Pendergraft of Apex; brothers, Glenn J. Farrell of Apex, and Johnny, Sammy C. and Danny S. Jenkins, all of Apex; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.

KENNETH CHILDRESS
SANFORD - Kenneth Childress, 59, of Hampton, Va., and formerly of Sanford, died Friday (2/6/04).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Garris Childress and Jessie McNeill Childress, and brothers, Hayden and Dallas Childress.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
He is survived by sisters, Vonel Childress Bullard of Sanford, Faye Childress Wofford of Sanford and Wonza Childress Davis of Pinehurst.

FAYETTEVILLE - Retired Army SSG Gary Baker Sr., 56, of 4525 Turquoise Road, died Friday (2/6/04) at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Wiseman Mortuary Chapel by Brother Jerome Goffery. Public viewing will be held an hour before the service.
He is survived by his wife, Lula M. Baker, at home; a son, Gary Baker Jr. of Fayetteville; daughters, Chrishona and Regina Baker, both of Raleigh; mother, Jean Baker of Stockbridge, Ga.; sisters, Wanda Bryant of Hopperwood, Mich., Leslie Smart of Stockbridge, Ga., and Barbara Smart of Laurel Springs, N.J.; a brother, Eugene Baker of Newark, N.J.; and three grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Wiseman Mortuary.

SANFORD - Funeral services for Zola Buie Pearson, 81, of 3038 Khalif Court, who died Saturday (1/31/04), were held Saturday at Union Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. Larry Robinson. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
The Union Grove Choir sang. Organist was Elmon Pipkins.
Floral bearers were Michelle McNeil, Theresa Johnson, Emily Hussey and Sarah McIver.
Pallbearers were Clinton Pearson, James Pearson, Herbert Jones, James Jones, Willie Smith and Quentin Ammerson.
Arrangements were by Elizabeth Street Mortuary of Spring Lake.

SANFORD - Graveside services for Parker Lee Doss, infant son of Erika Alston and Mitchell Doss, who died Friday (2/6/04), were held Monday at Pocket Presbyterian Church by Dr. Jerry Vuncannon.

SANFORD - Eunice Edwards McLean, of 516 Applegate Apts., died Monday (2/9/04) at Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.

SANDRA HACKNEY
CHAPEL HILL - Sandra P. Hackney, 55, of 97 Poythress Road, died Sunday (2/8/04), at UNC Hospitals.
She was a 20-year employee of UNC Hospitals as a nurse.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Antioch Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth G. Hackney Sr.; sons, Kenneth Hackney Jr. and wife Loretta and James Hackney, all of Chapel Hill; a daughter, Margo Graham of Chapel Hill; sisters, Dona Hasty of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Carolyn Riley of Four Oaks and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends in the Antioch Baptist Church Fellowship Hall following the service.
Memorial gifts may be made to Antioch Baptist Church Building Fund, the American Cancer Society or to Parkinsons Research.

WARREN OWENS
SANFORD - Warren Owens, of Sanford, died Monday (4/12/04) at home.
A native of Rappsburg, Md., he held the rank of major with the Army Air Corps. He was a highly decorated B-17 pilot who fought in World War II. He flew 38 successful missions. He was awarded bronze Oak Leaf Clusters for each mission. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Silver Star. He was also awarded the Greek equivalent of the U.S. Medal of Honor. He was a graduate of Temple University.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.
He is survived by his wife, Imogene Kinder Owens.

TERRY BULLINGTON
Pittsboro - Terry Douglas "Bullett" Bullington, 65, of died Saturday (4/10/04) at Hospice of the Meadowlands in Hillsborough following a period of declining health.
Born March 8, 1939, in Chatham County, he was the son of Grady and Mozelle Hancock Bullington. He attended N.C. State for two years He was retired from the Pittsboro Police Department and had also worked for the Chatham County Sheriff's Department prior to his illness.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann King Bullington; three children; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; brothers, John Bullington of Burlington, Kendall Bullington of Morehead City; and sisters, Joan Broadway of Burlington and Kay Hunt of Jamestown.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Shane Arnold at Griffin Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends immediately following the memorial service. His cremated remains will be scattered in the ocean at a later date.

SANFORD - Mary Hall Phillips, 83, of 5101 Timberidge Drive, died Thursday (4/8/04) at Dozier Hospital, Southport.
A native of Edgefield, S.C., she was daughter of the late Mary Hall Moody. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Phillips, and a daughter, Paula Williams.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Lee Memory Gardens by the Rev. Billy Keith.
Surviving are daughter, Mary Draper and husband Terry of Camilla, Ga., three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
LUCILLE MONROE
CARTHAGE - Lucille Short Monroe, 84, of Carthage, died Saturday (4/10/04) at Autumn Care of Raeford.
A native of Moore County, she was a daughter of the late Eldridge and Mary Gilchrist Short and was a homemaker.
Graveside services were held Monday at Culdee Presbyterian Church cemetery by the Rev. Chris Bobo.
Surviving are her husband, Lloyd B. Monroe; a son, Ronald Wayne Carter of Charlotte; and a sister, Pauline Cook of Carthage.
