PITTSBORO - Howard Leroy Cole Sr., 53, of 1090 Gil More Road, died Saturday (8/14/04).
He was a native of Alamance County and was a logger.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Damascus Congregational Christian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by a daughter, Thelma Davis of Chapel Hill; a son, Howard Cole Jr. of Saxapahaw; sisters, Savon Briggs, Connie Cole and Polly Johnson, all of Chapel Hill; brothers, Jessie Cole of Liberty, Johnny Cole of Burlington, Scott Cole of Staley, Tommy Cole, George Cole and Mark Cole, all of Chapel Hill, and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Griffin Funeral Service.

SANFORD - Patricia Ann Beyer, 74, of 3249 Bristol St., died Sunday (8/15/04) at home.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church by the Rev. Douglas Hodsdon.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Beyer of the home; daughters, Kathryn Reeves of Sanford and Linda Marks of Pittsburgh, Pa.; sons, Richard Beyer of Randolph, N.J., and Craig Beyer of Lincoln Park, N.J. and six grandchildren.

BROADWAY - James Whitfield, 66, of 700 Knight Road, died Friday (8/13/04) at home.
A memorial service was held Sunday at Smith Funeral Home of Broadway by the Rev. Ray Brooks.
Jerry Bradley sang. Taped music was played.
JEWELL SPIVEY
ROCKINGHAM - Jewell Carroll Spivey, 82, of Rockingham, died Sunday (8/15/04) at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital. A native of Harnett County, she was a daughter of the late Lillie Griffin Carroll and Hubert Carroll. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest J. Spivey, and a sister, Mary Harrington.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Richmond Memorial Park with the Rev. Ladd Brearley officiating.
She was the sister of Lucille Thomas of Broadway.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Carter Funeral Home.

SANFORD - Funeral services for Preston L. Morris Jr., 84. of 456 Peppermill Road, who died Saturday (8/14/04), was conducted Monday at Broadway Presbyterian Church by Dr. Harold M. Stone, the Rev. Clyde Johnson and the Rev. Joseph Watterson. Burial followed in Broadway Town Cemetery.
Pianist was Ruth Sutherland. Soloist was Eugene Barham. The congregation sang.
Pallbearers were Robert W. Stevens, James L. Stevens, Sam V. Stevens Jr., James E. Jackson Jr., Lloyd Adams, and John R. Holt.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Broadway Baptist Men's Senior Sunday School Class.

ANDREW BURNETTE
PITTSBORO - Andrew Fearrington Burnette, 81, of Log Barn Acres, died Saturday, (10/2/04) at his residence.
Born Nov. 25, 1923, in Chatham County, he was a son of the late John and Dora Mann Burnette. A part-time farmer, he retired as the supervisor of the maintenance department of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City schools, following 12 years of service. He was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Capps Burnette.
The service to celebrate his life of will be held at 1 p.m. today at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church by the Rev. John Singletary and the Rev. Jerry Sanders. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are daughters, Brenda Cooper of Pittsboro and Gloria Jean Burnette of Philadelphia; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at his residence.

SANFORD - Cecil Billy Dowd, 78, of 1150 N. Horner Blvd. died Sunday (10/3/04) at Central Carolina Hospital.
A native of Chatham County, he was a Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from the Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville.
Entombment will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lee Memory Gardens by the Rev. Florence Baker.
Surviving are a son, Billy Dowd of Sanford; a half-brother, Claude Holshouser and wife Peggy of Gulf; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City.

LILLINGTON - Funeral for Margaret Harrelson Long, 78, of Lillington who died Friday (10/1/04), was held Sunday at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home by the Rev. Grady Edwards and the Rev. Carl Graham. Burial followed in Westview Memorial Gardens, Lillington.
Vocalist was Deborah Womble and pianist was Gladys Woodall.
Pallbearers were Victor Britt, Michael Coats, Tim Harrelson, Chris Long, Stephen Long, Brian Long and Chris Darroch.

SANFORD - Funeral for Willie Lee Brewington, 72, of Sanford who died Wednesday (9/29/04), was held Saturday at McQueens Chapel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Larry Robinson, who gave the eulogy. Scripture readings were by the Rev. Robinson and the Rev. McBride. Prayer of comfort was given by the Rev. M.N. Douglas. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Acknowledgments were by Dianna Blue. Soloist was Eric Murchison. The church choir sang. Musician was Lola Wilson.
Floralbearers were friends and family.
Pallbearers were Steve Fox Jr., Bruce Petty, William E. McIver Jr., Leo McGriggs, James Sutton and Edward Battle.

SANFORD - Memorial service for Myra Dickson of Sanford, who died Wednesday (9/29/04), was held Monday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church by the Rev. Douglas Hodsden. Burial followed in Buffalo Cemetery.
Ushers were Rick Johns and Dave Zeph. Crucifer was Seth Cox. Lectors were Jo Ann Bowman and Alice Ann Ford. Jophie Johnson was organist. The congregation sang.
