DAVID BECKWITH
PITTSBORO - David Steele Beckwith, 44, of Pittsboro, died Saturday (7/19/03) at his home.
A native of Raleigh, he graduated with honors from Wake Christian Academy and later from Southern Missionary College.
He was a sales representative with XpedX with 20 years of service. He was a member of the Pittsboro Seventh-day Adventist Church where he was a deacon. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold E. Beckwith.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Raleigh with the Revs. Darren Briscoe and Louis Badenhorst. Burial will be private.
He is survived by his wife, Missy Beckwith; daughters, Stephanie, Brittany and Courtney, all at home; mother, Margaret S. Beckwith of Raleigh; brother, H. Allen Beckwith of Fuquay-Barina; an aunt and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends following the service.

ASHEBORO - Funeral services for Carey Moore Long, 89, of 303 N. Park St., who died Friday (7/18/03), were held Sunday at Lakeside Park Church of God in Franklinville by the Rev. Danny Peterson and the Rev. Kelly Dodson. Entombment followed in the Randolph Memorial Park.
Nathan Street was the pianist. Soloists were Nathan Street, Michaela Street and Aaron Powers. The congregation sang.
Pallbearers were Aaron Powers, Johnny Street, Steven Long, Michael Powers, Jonathan Long, Cory Long, Joshua Long, Dallas Street Jr., Donny Hill, Mark Long and C. T. Long.
Arrangements were by Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.

SANFORD - Janice McCormick Lewis, of 14191 McDougald Road, died Sunday (7/20/03) at home.

MABEL CLARK
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Mabel Jean Taylor Clark, 73, formerly of Sanford, died Saturday (7/19/03).
A native of Durham, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Henry and Mabel Wright Taylor. She attended Durham schools and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Clark worked as volunteer at Butner when she met her late husband during the Korean Conflict. She lived in Sanford, N.C., for about six years. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Boyd Clark.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Maplewood Cemetery.
She is survived by sons, James B. Clark Jr. of Pittsboro, N.C., and Kenneth R. Clark of Sanford, a daughter, Sheila Dawn Clark of Greenville, S.C., brothers, Norman Taylor and Marion Taylor, both of Durham; and a grandson, Christopher Clark of Lewisburg, Ky.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Howerton & Bryan Funeral Home.
LEOLA HOLT RIGSBEE
MORRISVILLE - Leola Holt Rigsbee, 92, of 2627 Alston Ave., died Friday (7/25/03) in Durham.
She was the oldest living member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Morrisville.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Good Hope Baptist Church.
Among survivors is a sister, Ruth Morrison of Sanford.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Apex Funeral Home, 511 W. Williams St., Apex, and at other times at the home of Larry and Ann Rigsbee.
JUANITA D. BYRD
MAMERS - Funeral service for Juanita D. Byrd, 74, of Mamers, who died Wednesday (7/23/03), was held Saturday at Antioch Baptist Church by the Rev. Martin Groover and the Rev. Lacy Frye. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Organist was Janet Blackwell. Pianist was Gladys Woodall.
Pallbearers were Ted Wheeler, Tyler Nichols, Brandon Watkins, Paul Salmon, Luther O'Quinn, Jerry Gregory and Jerry Cummings.
MARY McCANN
SANFORD - Graveside service for Mary McCann, 83, of Sanford, who died Wednesday (7/23/03), was held Saturday at Lee Memory Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Steve Ray.
Soloist Leslie Hannah sang. The family received friends at the home following the service. Arrangements were by Miller-Boles Funeral Home.

BEAR CREEK - Betty Rives, 65, of Bear Creek, died Saturday (7/26/03).

JONATHAN DIAZ
SANFORD - Jonathan Emmanuel Diaz, 3 months, of 505 Cannon Circle, died Sunday (8/31/03) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
A graveside service was held Monday at Jonesboro Cemetery by Quintin Avila. Burial followed.
He is survived by his mother, Mayra Guadalupe Diaz; father, Jose Diaz; a sister, Adriana Diaz and a brother, Jose Diaz, all of Sanford.
Arrangements were by Watson Mortuary.
DOROTHY HURTADO
LAS VEGAS - Dorothy Thomas Hurtado, 64, formerly of Olivia, died Saturday (8/30/03) at home.
A Harnett County native, she was a daughter of the late Sherwood and Edna Thomas. She was raised in the Olivia area and graduated from Benhaven High School.
Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday at Palm View Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred Hurtado; sons, Albert Hurtado and Alfonso Hurtado; daughters, Venius Brady, Margaret Sausman, and Carmen Hurtado, all of Las Vegas, and Teresa Zumwalt of California; a sister, Doris T. Batchelor of Olivia; brothers, Billy S. Thomas of Cameron and James L. Thomas of Fayetteville; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Palm Mortuary.

GOLDSTON - Helen Brown Baker, 81, of 2349 S. Main St., died Saturday (8/30/03) at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
A native of Chatham County, she attended Goldston Baptist Church. She was a retired cafeteria manager for Chatham Central High School.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Goldston Baptist Church by the Rev. David Hicks. Burial will be in Goldston Cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Baker Estridge of Mt. Gilead; a son, Warren Baker of Pfafftown; a sister, Frances Murchison Harris of Goldston; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

HERMAN COLE
SILER CITY - Herman Wade Cole, 87, of 721 East Raleigh St., died Monday (9/1/03) at Chatham Hospital.
A native of Mt. Airy, he was an Army veteran of World War II, a machinist, a retired salesman for Durham Life Insurance Company and was retail sales manager for Dossenbach's Furniture for 27 years. He was a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church, where he was teacher of the Men's No. 4 Sunday school class. He was a member of Chatham Hospital Auxiliary, serving on the surgical desk, reception desk and the PBX.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Loves Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Roy Helms. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Harrington Cole; a son, Donald Wade Cole and wife, Marilyn of Columbia, Md.; a brother, Claude Cole of Shelby; two grandchildren and a great-grandson.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Smith & Buckner Funeral Home and other times at the family home, 721 E. Raleigh St.
