ELMA MOON
COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA. - Elma Kelly Moon, formerly Elma Kelly O'Connell, 87, died Tuesday (11/11/03) at Southside Regional Medical Center, Colonial Heights, Va.
She was born May 16, 1916, in Sanford, where she lived until the death of her husband, Robert Lee O'Connell. She was also the widow of Harry Moon. She worked in New York for several years before retiring to Florida.
Gravesite service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday (11/18/03) at Jonesboro cemetery.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, James L. O'Connell and wife, Lucia, of Colonial Heights; and a sister, Frances Kelly Joffre of Colonial Heights.
Memorials can be made to Jonesboro United Methodist Church, 407 W. Main Street, Sanford N.C. 27330.

ALTON STARLING
FAYETTEVILLE - Alton "Big Boy" Wyman Starling, 53, of 3585 Cedar Creek Road, died Saturday (11/15/03) at his home.
Born in 1950 in Sampson County, he was a graduate of Hillsboro Street School. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lonnie Gaddis Starling.
Graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday (11/18/03) at Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Fayetteville with Revs. Sam Gore, Randy Andrews, and Mack Roberts officiating.
Surviving are his parents, Alton L. and Sudie Carter Starling; five sisters, Virginia Williams and Billie Sue Sessoms of Autryville, Becky Clark of Cameron, Ada Dunham of Fayetteville, and Sylvia Willis of Elizabethtown; brothers, Grady Starling and Curtis Starling, both of Fayetteville.
The family will recieve friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville and at other times at his home.
Memorials can be made to Liberty Home Care and Hospice, 2175 Village Drive, Fayetteville N.C. 28304, or to Special Olympics of Cumberland County.
Arrangements are by Royal-Hall Funeral Home of Clinton.

NAPLES, FLA. - Geneva Parham, 88, died Friday (11/14/03) in Naples, Fla.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

MELVIN WHITAKER
SILER CITY - Staff Sgt. Melvin Whitaker, 53, of 717 Gees Grove Road, Siler City, died Saturday (11/14/03).
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Knotts & Son Funeral Home of Siler City.

GRACE HARRINGTON
MONCURE - Funeral for Grace Wright Harrington, 93, of 4571 Corinth Road, Moncure, who died Wednesday (11/12/03) was conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Moncure United Methodist Church by the Rev. Kenneth Buckingham. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pianist was Jane Hunter. The Buckhorn United Methodist Church choir sang and there was a congregational hymn.
Pallbearers were Dan Harrington, Marion Poe, Ray Jones, Phil Frazier, William Stewart and Scott Parrish.
Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

EDGAR SWART
SANFORD - Edgar Kenneth Swart, 73, of 3018 Kendale Drive, died Thursday (1/8/04) at his residence.
He was a former resident of Santa Cruz, Calif. Born in Creek County, Okla., he was a son of the late Francis Theodore and Celia Starnes Swart.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Harnett Memorial Park, Lillington, by the Rev. Vinney Hessman.
Surviving are his wife, Neoma Louise Hall Swart; daughters, Linda Swart, Donna Richardson and Debra Guest, all of Sanford; a son, Randy Swart of Santa Cruz; a brother, Danny Swart of Kenai, Alaska; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
Memorial gifts may be made to Community Home Care and Hospice, 1602 Westover Drive, Sanford, N.C. 27330.

NORMAN COX JR.
SANFORD - Funeral for Norman L. Cox Jr., 26, of 510 North Ave., who died Sunday (1/4/04), was held Wednesday at Star of Hope Original F.W.B. Church by Bishop Allan L. Smith. Old Testament scripture was read by Elder Roy Johnson. New Testament reading was given by Pastor Vonda Reives. Prayer of comfort was given by Elder Jimmy Lee. Burial followed in Mt. Pisgah Lee Church cemetery.
The Conference Mass Choir sang. Soloist was Pastor Reives.
Floralbearers and pallbearers were family and friends.
Arrangements were by Knotts Funeral Home of Sanford.

VIVIAN PATTERSON
SANFORD - Funeral for Vivian Patterson, 39, of Sanford, who died Sunday (1/4/04), was held Friday at Jonesboro Chapel AME Zion Church by the Rev. Yyonette Rhodes. Old Testament scripture was read by Bishop Charles Mellette. Burial followed in Lee Memory Gardens.
Remarks were given by Donna Patterson and Donald Leak Patterson. Acknowledgments and obituary were given by Sierena Edwards.
Soloists were Alexander Brower III and Dante Leak. Jerry Pulliam Sr. and Jerry Pulliam Jr. performed a musical selection.
Floralbearers were Virginia Watson, Katie Watson, Kenisha Handy and Delphia Flack.
Pallbearers were Lasala Stancil, Terry Flack, James Jones, Robert Piggie and Steven Lyles.
Arrangements were by Knotts Funeral Home of Sanford.

TOMMY BRIDGES
SANFORD - Funeral for Tommy Wayne Bridges, 60, of 242 McCormick Road, who died Tuesday (1/6/04), was held Friday at Lemon Springs United Methodist Church by the Rev. Beth Hood. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Organist was Cindy Hayes. The congregation sang. The Lemon Springs United Methodist Choir sang.
Pallbearers were Parker Cooper, Frank Rugh, Jerry Stephens, Mike Miller, Wayne Spivey and Michael Blalock.
Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

MARGUERITE TAYLOR-NAGY
SANFORD - Funeral for Marguerite C. Taylor-Nagy, 73, of Ponte Verda Beach, Fla., who died Saturday (1/3/04), was held Friday at Barbecue Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Sandy Williams. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Bagpiper was Peter McArthur.
Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

FRANK WILKINSON
MOORESVILLE - Rev. Frank Calvin Wilkinson, of Heritage Place, Mooresville, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, Mooresville.
Born April 27, 1924, he was a son of the late Boyce and Delphia Galliher Wilkinson. Mr. Wilkinson was a graduate of Landis High School, a 1947 graduate of Davidson College, Davidson, N.C., and Columbia Theological Seminary, Decatur, Ga., in 1951. He was ordained in the Biscoe Presbyterian Church, July 22, 1951. While there, he helped organize the Star Presbyterian Church.
He served pastorates in Biscoe, Fayetteville and Flat Branch Presbyterian Church, Bunnlevel, Lillington and Southern Pines area, and Calvary at Davidson, and Sherrills Ford. He retired from the White Hill Presbyterian Church, Sanford, on April 30, 1986, after serving 35 years in the active ministry of the Presbyterian Church, USA. He continued to supply churches when called upon. He was a member of Salem Presbytery, active in Mooresville Area Ministerial Association, Community Chorus and Mooresville Area Bible Teachers Association. He was a substitute teacher in the Mooresville School System. He served on numerous Presbytery committees during his ministry.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Wilkinson.
Mr. Wilkinson is survived by his wife, Celeste Brotherton Wilkinson, whom he married June 8, 1952; two brothers, Allen and wife Charleen and Barnett and wife Catherine of Mooresville; and sister, Violet La Shomb and husband Don of Charlotte.
Services for Rev. Wilkinson will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at Prospect Presbyterian Church, Mooresville, with Rev. Joanne Hull, Rev. Ike Kennerly, and Dr. S. Edwin Lewis in charge. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, and also following the service in the church fellowship hall.

JOHN WENGER
LUTTRELL, Tenn., - John Frederick Wenger Jr., 73, of Luttrell, passed away at his home Thursday evening, Jan. 8, 2004.
He was a member and attended the Halls Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Sr. and Dorcus Wenger; a brother, Dave Wenger; and a grandson, Benjamin Naglitch.
Surviving are his wife, Della Mae Perry Wenger of Luttrell; daughters and sons-in-law, Vicky and Ed Padden and Shelly and Karl Naglitch; sons and daughters-in-law, Fred III and Karen Wenger and Jerry and Becky Wenger; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Robbie Riddle of Sanford; his favorite aunt, Evelyn Bailes of Sanford; grandchildren, Mike and Jeremy Padden, Karl, Rachel and Phillip Naglitch, Mathew, Jenny and Jessy Wenger, and Kevin and Jacob Wenger; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Cooke Mortuary Chapel with funeral to follow at 8 p.m. Brother Mike Tanzey officiating. Interment will follow at 11 a.m. Sunday at Perry Cemetery, Sharps Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Mike and Jeremy Padden, Karl and Phillip Naglitch, Kevin and Mathew Wenger, Chuck Holloway and Richard Canter.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Wenger and Robert Hall.
Arrangements are by Cook Mortuary, Maynardville.
