SANFORD - Memorial service for Alfred Maurice Clemo, 71, of 231 Lochmere Drive, who died Wednesday (8/11/04), will be held at 5:30 p.m. today at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Fayetteville.
A wake will be held at a later date in Aldenville, Pa. Burial will also be held at a later date in Aldenville Cemetery in Pennsylvania.
Arrangements are by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
JAMES WHITFIELD
BROADWAY - James M. Whitfield, 66, of 700 Knight Road, died Friday (8/13/04) at his residence.
Born Nov. 15, 1937, in Lee County, he was a son of the late Kenneth A. and Ruth Oakley Whitfield.
Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Smith Funeral Home in Broadway by the Rev. Ray Brooks.
Surviving are daughters, Wanda W. Borge of Broadway; a son, Chris Whitfield of Broadway; sisters, Hazel Bradley of Sanford and Norine McPhail of Lillington; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Smith Funeral Home, Broadway.

LAURA CAMPBELL
CARTHAGE - Laura Ring Campbell, 83, of 4860 Vass-Carthage Road, died Friday (8/13/04) at her residence.
A native of Moore County, she was a daughter of the late William Thomas and Virginia Alice Bryant Ring. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Campbell, and a son, Bobby Campbell.
Graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at House of the Lord by Pastor Tom Everett.
Surviving are daughters, Bonnie C. Marion of Carthage and Phyllis Blanchard of Sanford; a sister, Isabelle R. Powers of Cameron; a brother, Glen Ring of Lakeview; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Campbell of Carthage; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

PITTSBORO - Funeral for Elizabeth S. Alston, 87, of 100 East Cornwallis St., who died Monday (8/9/04), was held Thursday at Staunton Memorial CME Church by the Rev. Albert S. Williams, who gave the eulogy. Burial followed in Pittsboro Cemetery.
Prayer of comfort was given by the Rev. Sarah Hill. Scripture readings were given by the Rev. Wayne McNeal. Acknowledgments and remarks were given by Minister Jewell Cross.
Soloist was Zoretta French.
Floralbearers were stewardesses and missionaries.
Pallbearers were Maurice Farrar, Eldred Farrar, Joseph Farrar, Lamont Marsh, Willie Farrar and Ken Alston.

PITTSBORO - Funeral for Darrell R. Cotten, of Pittsboro, was held Saturday (8/7/04) at Union Grove AME Zion Church. Eulogy was given by the Rev. Jace Cox. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Scripture readings were given by the Rev. Theodore Tyson Jr. and the Rev. Sylvester Lambert. Prayer of comfort was given by the Rev. Marcus Williams. Acknowledgments were given by Elaine Brim. Special tributes were given by his daughters.
Soloist was Mildred Brooks.

SANFORD - Funeral for Mamie Trice, 82, of Durham, who died Wednesday (8/4/04), was held Thursday at Watson Mortuary. Burial followed in Minter Cemetery.
Eulogy, scripture reading and prayer of comfort were given by the Rev. Larry Ray. Acknowledgments were given by Pam Hooker. Remarks were given by Christopher McNeil.
Soloists were Phyllis Lee and Justice Griffin. Griffin was also the musician.
Floralbearers were friends of the family.
Pallbearers were Robert Cameron, Floyd Graham, Jerald Pearson and Alfonse Stubbs.

SANFORD - Funeral for Loyd Black Clark, 81, of 1115 Carthage St., who died Wednesday (8/11/04), was held Friday at Cameron Hill Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Tom Williams. Burial followed in Cypress Presbyterian Church cemetery.
Pianist was Joyce Rosser. Soloist was Glenda Randolph.
Pallbearers were Jim Farrington, Larry Ferrell, Lacy Graham, Ralph Mangum, Tim McNeill and Melvin Wooten.

CARBONTON - Funeral for Mary Jane Martindale Oldham, 85, of Carbonton, who died Tuesday (8/10/04), was held Friday at Carbonton United Methodist Church by the Rev. Frank Lloyd. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pianist Catherine Hughes sang. Duet was performed by Hughes and Marie Johnson.
Pallbearers were Carson Oldham, Doug Martindale, John Marshburn, Nick Craven, Bill Nall and Allen Gilliland.

SANFORD - Kenneth Ray Buie, 55, of Sanford, died Thursday (4/12/04) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

SARAH MAE BYRD POE
Funeral service for Sarah Mae Byrd Poe, 82, who died Nov. 8, were conducted Friday, Nov. 12 at Bunnlevel Presbyterian Church by Rev. James Randall. Burial was in Bunnlevel Cemetery.
Pianist was Sherrie Byrd. Special music was provided by the church choir.
Pallbearers were Ernest Byrd, Charles Byrd, Brandon McLean, Fred Byrd, Freeman Lovette, Wayne Byrd, and T. J. Byrd.
Funeral arrangements were by O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home.
CHARLES M. COUSLAND
ELKHORN, WI: Charles M. Cousland, 80, of 638 N. Broad Street, Elkhorn, WI died Tuesday, Nov. 9 at Select Specialty Hospital West Allis, WI. He was born August 6, 1924 in Aurora, IL, the son of Edward and Hattie Belle (Shields) Cousland.
Charles graduated from the Newark School of Engineering, Newark, NJ. He served in the US Army from 1943 to 1946. On August 25, 1956 he married Elizabeth Klebe. Charles worked as a Mechanical Engineer for over 37 years with Steven & Addamson Corp. of Aurora, IL, retiring in 1985.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; two sisters: Harrett Stevens of Boulder Hill, IL and Jessie (Robert) Smith of Huntley, IL; one brother: Donald (Mary) Cousland of Aurora, IL; several nieces and nephews.
At Charles request there will be no funeral services.

EUFIE COLE COFFER
SANFORD - Eufie Cole Coffer, 92, of 2748 Center Church Road, Sanford, died Thursday, Nov. 11 at Pinelake Healthcare Center.
She was a native of Moore County and the daughter of the late Carl B. Cole and Cornelia Nickens Cole. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Shelton Coffer.
A graveside service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at White Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery by the Rev. Jerry W. Parsons.
Surviving are a daughter, Bonnie Coffer Spivey and husband Russell of Sanford; two grandchildren: Rhonda Underwood and husband Steve of Sanford; and Rick Spivey and wife Cynthia of Sanford; six great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.
