BROADWAY - Janie Virginia Williams Cameron, 89, of Broadway, died Tuesday (7/22/03) at the Convalescent Center of Lee County.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home, Lillington, and at other times at the home.
She is survived by a daughter, Turessia C. Cameron of Broadway; sons, Bruce Campbell and Joel Hodges, both of Broadway; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home. Services will be conducted by Dr. Dawes Graybeal. Burial will be held in Leaflet Presbyterian Church cemetery in Broadway.
HERBERT BUIE
BALTIMORE, Md. - Herbert Buie, formerly of Broadway, N.C., died Wednesday (7/16/03) at University Medical Center.
A native of Broadway, he was the son of the late Robert and Christine Buie of Broadway.
Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. today at St. Ambrose Church with viewing beginning at noon. Burial will be in the Veteran's Cemetery in Garrison Forest.
Among survivors is his mother, Christine Webb Buie of Broadway.
Memorial gifts may be made to St. Ambrose Church, 4502 Park Heights Ave., Baltimore, Md., in memory of Herbert Buie.

SANFORD - Funeral service for Etrusa Mae Roberts Harris, of 743 S. Plank Road, who died Tuesday (7/15/03), was conducted Sunday at New Hope A.M.E. Zion Church by the Rev. Garry Foskey, the Rev. Christopher Jones, Dr. Ocie Brown, the Rev. Delois Washington, the Rev. Nathaniel Hawthorne and the Rev. Clemmons Williams. Interment was in Lee Memory Gardens.
Omitted in the survivors were sisters, Juanita Roberts Stultz and Vernitha Roberts Berry, both of Jamaica, N.Y.
Mary Lowery sang a solo. Several nieces sang. Nancy L. Davis gave the acknowledgments.
Floral bearers were Marilyn McIver, Stephanie McKinney, Sheila Piggie, Dawn Roberts, Jessie Roberts, Shauna Roberts and Carla West.
Pallbearers were Herbert Hooker, Leon Hooker, Lewis Hooker, Darryl Roberts and Ray Roberts.

SANFORD - Janice McCormick Lewis, 35, of 14191 McDougald Road, died Sunday (7/20/03) at home.
She is survived by her parents, Walter and Elsie McCormick of Sanford; sisters, Jackquelyn Mills and husband Marvin of Baltimore, Md., Faye M. Street and husband Sherrod of Sanford, Kathy McIver and Tracy McCormick, both of Sanford; brothers, Darnell McCormick and wife Cathy of Fort Riley, Kan., Andy McLean and wife Corinda of Atlanta, and Tyrone McCormick of Sanford.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Watson Mortuary.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Works for Christ Christian Center. Dr. Lewis and Pastor Alice F. Hooker will conduct the ceremony.

SANFORD - Funeral services for Kattie McLean, 74, of 112 15th St., who died Thursday (7/17/03), was held Monday at Fair Promise A.M.E. Zion Church in Sanford. Old and New Testament minister was Iris M. Jordan. The prayer was conducted by Terry L. Bristow. The eulogy was delivered by Dr. Sherman O. Greene Sr.
Alice Faye Hackney sang a solo and the Fair Promise A.M.E. Zion Voices of Praise performed.
Burial followed in Lee Memory Gardens. Floral bearers were Helen Brown, Marie McGilvary and several friends. Pallbearers were Roger Smith, Derious Jones, Lester Graham, Varn Hunter, Larry Mickle and James McLean.

SANFORD - Funeral services for Hester Ellerbe, 78, who died Tuesday (7/15/03), were held Saturday at the True Apostolic Deliverance Center. Scriptures were read by Ministers Larry Watson and Brialois McCormick. Prayer was conducted by Lester McKoy. Eulogy was delivered by Elder William Barrett. Interment followed in Womack Cemetery.
Mary McNeill and Cyntria Bouknight sang solos. The musician was Cyntria Bouknight.
Pallbearers were Ira McCormick, Jermone Tuck, Glenn Fox, Bruce Petty, Christopher Lamar and Kenny Bail.

MANHATTAN, N.Y. - Alice Mozetta "Sib" Person Hooker Bennett, of Manhattan, formerly of Sanford, N.C., died Tuesday (7/22/03) at Memorial Sloan Kittering Hospital in New York.

IRMA GOSSETT
LILLINGTON - Irma Smith Gossett, 76, of Lillington, died Monday (12/1/03) at Memorial Health Center in South Hill, Va.
Born in Harnett County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph P. and Irma H. Raney Smith. In 1944, she married Norman Eugene Gossett Sr. and in 1957 they moved to Durham. She taught English at Durham County Middle School for more than 22 years.
Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home by the Rev. Mark Morris and the Rev. Norman Gossett, Gossett's husband. Burial will follow in Harnett Memorial Park.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Norman Eugene Gossett; daughters, Lynda Carol G. Adamson and husband Frank of Arlington, Va., and Irma Raney G. Rogers and husband Kenneth of Warrensville; sons, Norman Eugene Gossett Jr. and wife Linda of Stem, John Perry Gossett and wife Ann and James Douglas Gossett, all of Chapel Hill; sisters, Florence Llewellyn of Greensboro and Agnes Bordeaux of Durham; a brother, Joe P. Smith Jr. of Florida; and nine grandchildren.

SANFORD - Funeral for Maude Kelly Cockrell, 85, of 1708 Campbell Drive, who died Sunday (11/30/03), was held Tuesday at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Donald Thompson. Burial followed in Shallow Well Cemetery.
Guitarist was Robert Thomas. Thomas and the Rev. Thompson sang.
Pallbearers were Michael Albright, Dean Brock, Tom Clark, Ronnie Kelly, Johnny Snow and Mark Wichtrich.
Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home handled arrangements.
MICHAEL MCMASTER
SILER CITY - Funeral for Michael McMaster Sr., 49, of 543 Stockyard Road, who died Tuesday (11/25/03), was held Saturday at Oliver's Chapel AME Zion Church by the Rev. Gaylon Wilson. Old Testament scripture reading was by Bishop Goines. New Testament scripture reading was by the Rev. Gene Horton. Prayer of comfort was given by Gen. Elder Mary Lebby. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Soloists were Brad Rogers and the Rev. Rodney Foxx. Remarks were given by William Brooks, the Rev. Judy Bowden, the Rev. Willie Bartell and Elder Ocie Brown. Acknowledgment was by Helen Headen.
Floralbearers and pallbearers were family and friends. Honorary pallbearers were the steward and trustee board.
JESSIE GREGORY
PITTSBORO - Jessie M. Gregory, 63, of Durham, died Tuesday (12/2/03) at Magnolia Gardens, Durham.

RUFUS YARBOROUGH
SANFORD - Rufus Melvin Yarborough, 73, of 713 Denada Path, died Sunday, (11/30/03) at his home.
A native of Sanford, he was the son of the late Philip Chaffin and Wilma Hartness Yarborough. He attended N.C. State University and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir for 30 years and served on the administrative board.
Rufus worked for Cummins Atlantic for 29 years as a power systems engineer. He was also known for his innovative repower and engine modification skills. For 20 years, Rufus was an active engineer fabricator and participant in modified tractor pulling and bobtail truck racing.
During his retirement, his shop at the farm was a gathering place for remembrance and resurgence. He also found much enjoyment sharing his flowers and vegetables with his friends.
Funeral was held Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at St. Luke UMC conducted by the Rev. Dr. Carl Frazier. Burial followed in Buffalo Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Mary Thornton Benson Yarborough; a son, Brett Benson Yarborough and daughter-in-law Anna Alston Yarborough of Raleigh; a daughter, Rebecca Yarborough Klouse of Apopka, Fla.; stepmother, Edna Earl Yarborough of Sanford; brothers, Phillip Chaffin Yarborough Jr. and Carol Michael Yarborough, both of Sanford; sisters, Mary Bridgers of Pinehurst, Wilma Berryhill of Charlotte and Janet Kelly of Asheville; and grandchildren, Jennifer Fallais Yarborough, Mary Thornton Yarborough and Caroline Rebecca Klouse.

FRANCES CROWSON
SANFORD - Frances Elizabeth Phillips Crowson, 73, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at her residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church by the Rev. Eric Porterfield. Burial will follow in Buffalo Cemetery.
Mrs. Crowson, known as "Granny," was a homemaker. She was born in Chatham County, a daughter of the late Robert and Eutha Hilliard Phillips. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Crowson was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Shelley Crowson, and two sisters, Bobbie Jean Atkins of Gulf and Naomi Perry of Silk Hope.
Mrs. Crowson is survived by her husband, T. Wayne Crowson; a daughter, Terri C. Wallace and husband Richard of Sanford; sons, Jeffrey Wayne Crowson and Gregory Phillips Crowson and wife Deneen, all of Sanford; sisters, Edna Kate Durham of Graham and Ann P. Womack of Sanford; a brother, Bucky Phillips of Sanford; and grandchildren, Brianne Wallace, Blake Wallace, Holly Crowson, Zachery Crowson, Katelynn Crowson, Courtney Crowson and Anderson Crowson.
