WINSTON MARTIN JR.
SANFORD - Winston Martin Jr., 56, of 500 Dudley St., died Thursday (4/1/04) at Central Carolina Hospital.
He is survived by a daughter, Felicia Woodland and husband Jimmy of Clinton, Md., and Ursulla Petite and husband Richard, of Richmond, Calif.; his mother, Berniece Martin; brothers, Allnthea Allen and wife Geneva of Brooklyn, N.Y., James Allen and wife Theresa of Sanford, and George Martin of Lillington; sisters, Julia Smith, Eva Martin, Maggie Martin and Mary Martin, all of Sanford, and Catherine McKoy and husband Larry of New Jersey; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at New Bethel Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Lee Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Knotts Funeral Home.
JOHN THOMPSON
HERNDON, Va. - Funeral for John Roy Thompson, 55, of Herndon, Va., formerly of Sanford, N.C., who died Tuesday (3/22/04), was held March 27 at Adam-Green Funeral Home.
Born and raised in Sanford, he was educated at W.B. Wicker High School. He held a bachelor's degree in education administration and a master's degree in business administration, both from N.C. A&T University. He was commissioned in the Army as a distinguished military graduate in 1972.
He retired from the Army in June 2002 as a colonel, after serving 30 years. At one point, he served in the White House Communication Agency and also in Frankfurt, Germany.
He was awarded with the Legion of Merit, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Signal Coprs Silver Order of Mercury, and numerous other awards and decorations.
Thomspon was the son of the late Leroy Thompson. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Milton Thompson.
He is survived by his mother, Lillie Thompson; his wife, Wynndolyn; a son, John Warren; sisters, Daisy Stewart and husband David of Hawaii, Francella Mitchell and husband David of Fayetteville, and Shirley Thompson of Sanford; and a brother, Thurman Palmer and wife Eugenia, of Long Island, N.Y.
A service will be held at 9 a.m. May 26 at Fort Myer Old Post Chapel in Arlington, Va., with full military honors. Internment will follow in the Arlington Military Cemetery.

PEARL McKEITHEN
SANFORD - Pearl Juanita McKeithen, 58, of 7012 Sheriff Watson Road, died Sunday (4/4/04) at Central Carolina Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bennie L. McKeithen, and brothers Charles and William McKeithen.
She is survived by her mother, Mary McKeithen of Sanford; a sister, Sharon D. Edwards of Sanford; sisters-in-law, Judy McKeithen of Sanford and Carolyn McKeithen of Cameron.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Nebo Free Will Baptist Church with Elder J.H. Fairley. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Watson Mortuary.

JOSEPH H. CLEARY
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Joseph H. Cleary, 70, formerly of Lawrence Township and West Trenton, died Monday (4/5/04) at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, N.C.
He moved to Sanford, N.C., five years ago.
He retired after 48 years of service as a heavy equipment supervisor with the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
He was a former member of the Slackwood Volunteer Fire Co. in Lawrence Township and Trenton Lodge 105 B.P.O.E. in West Trenton.
He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Sanford.
Son of the late Joseph J. and Gladys Hopewell Cleary and brother of the late Roberta Salinger, he is survived by his wife, Mary (Marie) DeFrancesco Cleary, and several brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville. Burial will be in the Ewing Cemetery Mausoleum in Ewing Township. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

CAMERON - Robert Lee McLean, 65, of 706 McKoy Town Road, Cameron, died Saturday (4/3/04) at home.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, at home; a daughter, Antoinette Cox, of Johnsonville; a son, Rodney Cox and wife Betty of Lillington; stepsons Valdis Davis and wife Esther of Winston-Salem, Norman Davis and wife Mona of Germany and Bernard Davis and wife Robin of Sanford; brothers, Johnny McLean and wife Betty of Sanford and Neil McLean and wife Mary of Pineview; sisters, Dandi McLean, Annie Pulley and husband Robert, all of Sanford, Elouise Swann and husband Abel of Swann Station and Annie Doris McGilberry and husband Jessie of Olivia; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Church of God in Cameron. Burial will follow in the Johnsonville Community Cemetery.

SILER CITY - Walter L. Bryant, 90, of 345-B Jordan Grove Road, died Saturday (4/3/04) at Chatham Hospital.
A native of Surry County, he was a retired contractor.
He is survived by daughters, Janice Marie Stevens and husband Calvin of Upper Marlboro, Md., Betty Ann Hughes and husband George of Bowie, Md., Gloria Martin and husband Ronald of Washington, D.C., Norma Jean Mordecai and husband Andre of Siler City, and Helen Bumbray and husband Jose of Gaithersburg, Md.; sons, Elder Solomon Bryant of Washington, D.C, and Harold Bryant of Siler City; and a sister, Emma Bryant of Winston-Salem.
Funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Unity Powerhouse. Burial will follow in Little Rock Bibleway Church.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Internment followed in the church cemetery.

Pianist was Carolyn Hudson. Vocalists were Brittany Burgess and Jeffrey Clark.
