LILLINGTON - Funeral for Lee Phillips, 81, who died Saturday (8/7/04), was held Tuesday at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. George Stallings. Burial was in Harnett Memorial Park.
Vocalist was Teresa Dew.
Pallbearers were Dolph Silvers, Lynn Poe, Tom Phillips, Craig Buchannon and Johnny Gene Dickens.
O.B. STOKES
SANFORD - Funeral for O.B. Stokes, who died Saturday (8/7/04), was held Tuesday at St. Luke United Methodist Church by Dr. Carl Frazier, Dr. Paul Leeland and the Rev. Al Hocutt. Burial followed in Buffalo Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Leonard Barefoot, Larry Thomas, Ben Chewning, Ray Fogleman, Ronnie Yarborough and Jeff Morse. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Sanford Exchange Club.
Music was by Robert Cox, The City Hall Chorus and the congregation. James Kimball was the organist.
Arrangements were by Miller-Boles Funeral Home.
SARAH B. POE
BUNNLEVEL - Sarah B. Poe, 82, of Bunnlevel, died Monday (11/8/04) at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
Mrs. Poe was born Aug. 29, 1922, in Harnett County, and was the daughter of Roger C. and Octavia Monroe Byrd. She was a faithful member of Bunnlevel Presbyterian Church, and was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and participating in her church's activities and those of her family.
Mrs. Poe graduated from Lillington High School and retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fayetteville. She previously worked for the Harnett County Selective Service Board and Farm Bureau Insurance in Lillington.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Poe was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, John Horton Poe; sister Myrtle B. Farah of Louisa, Va.; brothers Stanley J. Byrd of Bunnlevel and Monroe C. Byrd of Louisa, Va.; granddaughter Andrea B. Rainey of Buies Creek and grandson Harley David Poe of Conway, S.C.
Funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Bunnlevel Presbyterian Church by the Rev. James Randall. Burial will be at Bunnlevel Cemetery.
Surviving are daughters Judy P. Byrd and her husband Sam of Lillington, Sandra P. Bridgers and her husband Tony of Knightdale, and Barbara P. McLean and her husband Jerry of New Milford, N.J.; son, John David Poe of Bunnleve; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home of Lillington.
HARVEY (MACK) BROWN
HIGH POINT - Funeral for Harvey "Mack" Brown, of High Point, formerly of Sanford, who died Friday (10/29/04), was held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hoover Funeral Home Chapel in High Point with Eulogy by Pastor Roger Ray Hedrick. Interment at Oakwood Memorial Park.
Surviving are daughters Sandra Brown and Maxine Brown, both of Next York, Patricia Miller (Richard) of High Point and Dianne Trapp of Sanford; sisters Nettie Thomas (James), Claudia Smith and Jimmie Carnegie, all of High Point; brother Wilson Brown (Helen) of Sanford; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

PERVIS LEE (PERK) SNIPES
SANFORD - Funeral for Pervis Lee (Perk) Snipes, 61, who died Nov. 2 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, was held at 1 p.m. Friday at Poplar Springs A.M.E. Participating in the service were Dr. Thomas Smith, the Rev. Bill Richmond, the Rev. I.J. Irving, Sis. Maggie Newby, Sis. Annie Jones, Robert Baldwin and the choir. Interment was Dorsett's family plot.
Floral bearers were Essie Kersey and friends.
Pallbearers were Tony Roberts, J.R. Richmond, Paul Feaster, Jerald Pearson, Robert Cameron and Floyd Graham.

KENTA MANDEZ FOX
SANFORD - Funeral for Kenta Mandez Fox, 25, who died Oct. 29, was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Calvary Baptist Church. Participating in the service were Minister Valine Thompson, the Rev. Bruce Petty, Renee Harris, Stephanie Fox and Priscilla Thompson, Justice Griffin and the choir. Pastor is Dr. Thomas Smith. Interment was at Minter Cemetery.
Floral bearers were Angela Fox, Jamell Berryman, Sharise Sanders, Kim Lyles, Marilyn Fox, Pam Fox, Lakia McLeod and Linda McNeill.
Pallbearers were Chubby Goins, Cornell Watson, Frank Fox, Derrick Harris, Patrick Harris, Chris Green, Stanley Judd, Deno Green, Reggie Green, Alex Bagley, Charles Hooker, Anthony Foxx and Darryl Jackson.

JAMES NORFLEET OSLIN
SANFORD - James Norfleet Oslin, 70, of 2504 Courtland Drive, died Monday (11/8/04) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Born in Boydton, Va., son of the late Alfred Oslin and Mary Cooper Oslin. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force, where he served 21 years and was awarded numerous ribbons and medals. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of Lodge 161, a life member of the American Legion and V.F.W. He was a member of Scottish Rite and Sudan Shrine. He was a self-employed watch repairman and bonded locksmith, and loved golfing, fishing and flying.
Graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Buffalo Cemetery by a U.S. Air Force chaplain.
Surviving are Frances M. Oslin of Sanford; son Ronald Oslin of Chase City, Va.; stepson Terry Arnette of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; daughter Wanda Lort of Chase City, Va.; stepdaughter Barbara Arrowood of Apex; brother Clyde Oslin of Boydton, Va.; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

CHARLIE FOSTER THOMAS
SANFORD - Graveside service for Charlie Foster Thomas, 70, of 1251 Edwards Road, Sanford, who died Sunday (11/7/04), was conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday by the Rev. Gene Carmack and the Rev. James Estes.
Duets were sung by the Rev. Gene and Ann Carmack and by Tony POintdexter and Ann Carmack.
Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
HATTIE MAE EPPS DILLARD
MONCURE - Hattie Mae Epps Dillar, 69, of 164 Jones St., Moncure, died Sunday (11/7/04) at her home.
She was born in Athens, Ga., daughter of the late Hoyt Epps and Annie Mae Epps. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Anne E. Lewter and son Anthony Ray Ashworth.
Graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Moncure United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Ricky Chappell.
Surviving are husband Russell C. Dillard; son Timothy Ashworth of Raleigh; daughters Gail A. Brown and husband Cliff of Aberdeen, Janet A. Reece and husband Mike of Lillington, and Susan D. Cotten and husband David of Moncure; brother James D. Epps of Sanford; sister Mary E. Dickens of Sanford; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home of Moncure.
CAROLYN BELK MCNEILL
SANFORD - Funeral for Carolyn Belk McNeill, 46, who died Nov. 2, was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Green Grove A.M.E. Zion Church. Interment was at the church cemetery. Participating in the service were the Rev. Janet McNeill, Eldress Barbara Broughton, Bishop Willie Gilmore, Pam Jones, the Rev. Addie McCrimmon, Patricia McKeithen, John Gilmore, the Rev. Carolyn Radcliff, Evelyn Weathers, Willerd Steadman and the church choir.
Floral bearers were Faye Littlejohn, Linda McPhatter and Rita Littlejohn.
Pallbearers were Tony McGilvary, James Brown, Roger McRae, Jerald Pearson, Glenn Roberts and Floyd Graham.

JOHN SLOAN
SANFORD - John Lewis Sloan, 76, of 10 Creech Lane, died Sunday (3/30/03) at Pinelake Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.
A native of Harnett County, he was a son of the late Frank Creech Sloan and Mary Patterson Sloan. He was a retired construction superintendent and farmer. He served in the U.S. Navy in during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wives, Frances Brown Sloan and Billie B. Sloan.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dawes Graybeal and the Rev. Doug Houston. Burial will be in Leaflet Presbyterian Church cemetery.
He is survived by a son, Tim Sloan of Carthage; daughters, Malynda S. Mize and Pamela S. Buckland, both of Sanford, and Patricia McDonald of Lillington; brothers, Ralph and Bobby Sloan, both of Broadway; sisters, Eva Coleman of Olivia and Doris Norris of Broadway; eight grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
The family received friends Monday at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
HELEN HINSON
CAMERON - Helen Parker Hinson, 91, of 573 Carthage St., died Sunday (3/30/03) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
A native of Moore County, she was a daughter of the late William Grover Parker and Margaret Borst Parker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Thompson Hinson.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cameron Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Gilbert Ward and the Rev. Joan Ward. Burial will be in Cameron Town Cemetery.
She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Hinson Adams of Raleigh and one grandchild.
The family will receive friends at Cameron Presbyterian Church one hour before the funeral service.
