ELWOOD HOOKER SR.
SANFORD - Services for Elwood Hooker Sr., of 1384 Tempting Church Road, who died Saturday (3/27/04), were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Works for Christ Christian Center.
Interment was at Tempting Church Cemetery with military honors.
Scriptures were read by Ministers Janer Beck and Barry Palmer and the prayer was offered by Pastor Percy Hawes. The Tempting Congregational Choir, soloist Lucy Harris, and children and grandchildren sang. Musicians were Larry Thomas, John Hooker, Nathan Hooker, Ronnie Hooker, Jonathan Hawes Sr., Jonathan Hawes Jr., Nathan Hooker Jr. and Corey McCrimmon.
Acknowledgments were by Minister Joann Hooker, remarks by the Revs. Percy Hawes, Janer Beck and Gerome Williams, and eulogy by Pastor Lewis Hooker.
Floral bearers were grandchildren and friends. Pall bearers were John Hooker, Elwood Hooker Jr., Lee Hooker, Lewis Hooker, Nathan Hooker and Elliott Wyatt.
Arrangements were by Knotts Funeral Home.
MARGARET PEARSON
CARTHAGE - Services for Margaret Phillips Pearson, who died Saturday (3/27/04) at United Hospital, Port Chester, N.Y., were held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Union Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Scriptures were read by Minister Dorothy Phillips and the Rev. John Doe. The prayer was given by the Rev. G. Bartlett and the eulogy by the Rev. H.C. Johnson. The Rev. G. Bartlett presided and acknowledgments were given by Leslie Harper. The mixed choir sang.
Floral bearers and pall bearers were friends of the family.
Arrangements were by Watson Mortuary Inc.
WAYLON DONATHAN
SANFORD - Services for Waylon Lester Donathan, 52, of 2416 Jefferson Davis Highway, who died Wednesday (3/31/04) were conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday at Tramway Baptist Church by the Rev. Scott Wilson, the Rev. Ralph Baker and the Rev. Rudy Holland. Burial followed in Grace Chapel Cemetery.
Music was provided by Higher Ground Quartet, soloist Victoria Shaw, Sherry Baird and DeAnna Strickland. The Rev. George Walton was the pianist.
Active pallbearers were Tony Donathan, David Wayne Flynn, Wendell Johnson, Wayne Haire, Mark Donathan and Buncy Nicholson. Honorary pallbearers were Frankie Hickman, Johnny Holder, Ed Bullard, Gary Bullard, Max Hall, Earl Harbour, Tommy Loving and Buster Coggins.
Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
LILLER SHUE
SANFORD - Funeral services for Liller Mae Wilson Shue, 88, who died Wednesday (3/31/04), were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Rogers Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Robert Davis and the Rev. Ricky Montis. Burial was in Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
Music was by soloist Henry Grant and the congregation. Remarks and reading of the obituary were by Tina Porter.
Pallbearers were Bobby Shue, Bennie Shue, Lee Underwood, Herman Musselwhite, Brian Medlin and Paul Medlin.
Arrangements were by Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

SANFORD - Deborah Oldham Wilson died Saturday (4/03/04) at Duke University Medical Center.

MARGARET BARKER
SANFORD - Margaret Poole Barker, 79, of Sanford, died Thursday (7/29/04) at Central Carolina Hospital.
Born in Cumberland County, she was a daughter of the late Wade and Edith Poole Parker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Barker, and a son, Van Barker. She was a graduate of the Rex Hospital School of Nursing. She worked for many years at Lee County Hospital.
Graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Buffalo Cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Gail B. Kennedy and husband Ricky of Carthage; sons, Lynn Barker and wife Carol and Wade Barker, all of Sanford; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

GEORGE WATSON
SANFORD - George H. Watson, 70, of 206 Jefferson St., died Monday (7/26/04) at his home.
He was born Oct. 20, 1923, in Lee County, to the late Archie Bristow and Larah Hooker Bristow. He attended W.B. Wicker School and served in World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Watson, a son, Clarence Hooker, a brother, Staley Bristow, a granddaughter; and a son-in-law, Curtis Keys.
Surviving are children, George Watson Jr. and wife Lovinda of New York, Willie Lee Watson of Illinois, Donnell Watson and wife Doris, Vickie Keys and husband Willie of South Carolina, Sidney Watson and wife Betty, Sandy Watson of Sanford, Gregory Watson and wife Claudine, at home, Vivian Hawes and husband Earl, Sheree Watson and Peggy Watson of Sanford, Artis McLean, Arnold McLean, Carol McLean, Ronald Lee McLean, Annie McLean McDougald, Rickey McLean, Edward McLean, James Lee McLean, Paul McLean, Shelia McLean-Witcher and husband Adrain and John McLean, all of Virginia; a brother, General Samuel Bristow of Sanford; sisters, Mary Bristow of Sanford, Jessie Bell Goodall and Elizabeth Murphy of Cleveland, Ohio; 62 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; six sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Works for Christ Christian Ministries. Burial will follow in Minter Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Knotts Funeral Home.
ROBERT HARDY
CAMERON - Robert Paul Hardy, 42, of 344 Bass Road, died Thursday (7/29/04) at the Convalescent Center of Lee County.
He was born in Moore County.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Pineywood Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles Lassiter. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are a wife, Cyndee Thomas Hardy; a son, Robert Charles Hardy of Robbins; a daughter, Jeannie Elaine Hardy of Carthage; parents, Carlton Lee Hardy and Elaine Medlin Hardy of Cameron; brothers, Roger Kenneth Hardy, Randy Carlton Hardy and Harvey Franklin Hardy, all of Carthage, Reuben Lee Hardy of Cameron and Curtis Ray Hardy of West End; a grandmother, Frances Medlin of Cameron; and a grandchild.

MALVERN, Ark. - David Ross Roache, 59, of Malvern, Ark., formerly of Sanford, N.C., died Thursday (7/29/04).
He was born in Lee County, N.C., to the late Finley Ross and Elizabeth Wicker Roache. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force.
Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel in Malvern, Ark.
Surviving are wife, Bernice Roache, at home; a daughter, Kimberly Tidwell of Malvern, Ark.; a sister, Robin Sink of Clinton; brothers, Steve Roache of Middlesex, Gary Roache of Zebulon and Byron Roache of Bentonville, Ark; and a grandchild.

HOPE MILLS - Mary Ann Garcia, 57, of 5501 Dyland Court, sister of Bettie Page of Sanford, died Wednesday (7/28/04) at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church in Fayetteville by the Rev. Sandy Saunders. Burial will follow in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
Also surviving are husband, Alex Garcia Sr., at home; two daughters, two sons, another sister, six brothers and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton-Porter Funeral Home in Hope Mills.

SANFORD - Funeral for Lavern Monroe Holder, 72, of 339 Buchanan Farm Road, who died Tuesday (7/27/04), was held Friday at Lee's Chapel Christian Church by the Rev. James Bowden. Graveside service was held at Coats City Cemetery.
Pianist and soloist was Lisa Martin.
Pallbearers were Randy Lanier, Bill Lanier, Hayden Luxton, John Batten, Don Batten and Jeff Batten.
Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

SANFORD - James G. Thomas, 85, died Thursday (7/29/04) at Central Carolina Hospital.
