LILLINGTON - Funeral for Ruth Autry Turlington, 79, who died Friday (8/6/04), was held Monday at Lillington Baptist Church by the Rev. Mark Morris. Burial followed in Harnett Memorial Park.
Pianist was Shirley Shelbourne. Organist was Ruby Mae Long. Vocalist was Debra Womble.
Pallbearers were Roger Page, Billy Black, Robbie Clack, Chuck Clack, Donald Ray Turlington and Dennis Turlington.

SANFORD - Graveside services for J. Frank Kelly, 73, of Cameron, who died Friday (8/6/04), were held Sunday at Rocky Fork Christian Church cemetery by the Rev. Misty Mowrey.
Pallbearers were Dewey Kelly, Billy Kelly, Ronald Kelly, Johnny Kelly, Warren Kelly and James Lynchum. Honorary pallbearers were Halford Allen, Larry Butner and Roger Boyd.
Arrangements were by Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.
FRONNIE THOMPSON
SANFORD - Funeral for Evangelist Fronnie Pearl Thompson, who died Aug. 3 at Central Carolina Hospital, was held Saturday at Green Grove AME Zion Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Scripture readings were by the Rev. Addie McCrimmon and the Rev. James Bandy. Elder Thurman Wooten gave the prayer. Acknowledgments were by Sister Peggy Cotton. Remarks were by Bandy, McCrimmon, Elder James Bandy, Earlene Foxx Rollins and Diane Fuller. The Rev. Carolyn Radcliff gave the eulogy.
Soloist was Minister Janet McNeil. The church choir also sang. Musician was Elder Terrence McCrimmon.
Flower bearers were friends of the family. Pallbearers were Melvin Jackson, William Snipes, Curtis Morrison, Willie Cockman, Beauford Chapman and Chico Martin.
Arrangements were by Watson Mortuary.

SANFORD - Funeral for William Isaac "Ike" Spivey Jr., who died Friday (8/6/04), was held Monday at the Miller-Boles Funeral Chapel by Doris Kennedy and Don Waters. Burial followed in Carbonton United Methodist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chris Black, Allen Black, Anthony Gunter, James Mason, Melvin Spivey and Cecil Underwood.
Four Heart Harmony provided the music. Organist was Don Waters.
MARNITA BYNUM
SANFORD - Funeral for Marnita A. L. Bynum, 40, who died July 31, was held Sunday at the Dennis Wicker Civic Center by Superintendent Patrick L. Wooden. Burial followed in Lee Memory Gardens.
Scripture readings were by Pastor Alice Hooker and Pastor Tiff Brower. Pastor Myron Henderson gave a prayer of comfort. Tributes were given by Marquail, Brock and Robert Bynum Jr., First Lady Pamela Wooden and Bishop Charles Mellette. Acknowledgments were by Missionary Joyce Hawkins. Eulogy was by Patrick L. Wooden.
Music was by Upper Room Choir.
Floral bearers were college classmates. Pallbearers were members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.

GREENSBORO - Ann Maude Fulk Covert, 82, of 105 D. Hart Road, Siler City, died Wednesday (12/1/04) at the residence.
On Dec. 1, Ann Covert went home to be with her Lord and Savior after a two-year battle with lung cancer. She continued to witness to people with her ministry of sending uplifting cards and prayers. Anne was a native of Guilford County, a member of Bethel Baptist Church and retired from Burlington Industries and later worked with Bi-Rite which is now The Fresh Market in Greensboro.
Funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church, 2230 Lees Chapel Road, Greensboro, by the Rev. Vernon Gales. Burial will be at Lakeview Memorial Park, 3600 O'Henry Blvd., Greensboro.
Surviving are husband Roland W. Covert of Siler City; son R. Wayne Covert and wife Dottie of Lexington; daughter Linda C. Bunn and husband Harold of Trinnity; sisters Irene, Pat, Sally, Kizzie and Ruby; brothers Ronnie and Claude; sex grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 N. Second Ave., Siler City, and 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church, 2230 Lees Chapel Road, Greensboro, and others times at the family home.

VERNA MACKEY
PITTSBORO-Verna Whitaker Mackey, 96, died Wednesday (12/01/04) at The Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.
Verna was born Jan. 2, 1908 in Port Deposit, Md.; the only child of Joseph W. and Mary Jane Whitaker. She was educated in the schools in Port Deposit, Md. Verna was married to William Mackey, who preceded her in death in 1988. She and Mr. Mackey moved to Pittsboro from Sykesville, Md. in 1971. During her career, she worked as a practical nurse for the Perry Point, Md. Veteran's Administration Hospital. Mrs. Mackey was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth June Benson of Fond Du Lac, Wis., and Avis Elaine Autry of Pittsboro; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.
The graveside service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Verna Mackey will be conducted by the Rev. Simons and Pastor Ray Gooch at 3 p.m., Saturday at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church Cemetery in Pittsboro.
The family will receive friends following the service.

LILLINGTON-Thomas "Tommy" J. Womble, 68, died Thursday (12/02/04) at his home.
Mr. Womble retired from Weyerhauser and dedicated the remainder of his life to his family and community. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roberson and Evie Holder Womble.
Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Spring Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Keith Miller and the Rev. David Yarborough officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Joyce M. Womble of the home; son, Thomas A. Womble and wife, Diane T., of Lillington; daughter, Deanna Ray and husband, James, of Lillington; brother, Mack Womble and wife, Dot, of Cameron; sister; Rebecca Yarborough and husband, Archie, of Sanford; 4 grandchildren, Caroline Womble, Christian Ray, Millicent Womble and Blake Ray.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home, Lillington; and other times at his home.

PITTSBORO - Funeral service for Shennel R. McKendall, 37, of 612 Mitchell Chapel Church Road, who died Monday (11/29/04) at UNC Hospital, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church in Pittsboro by the Rev. Kenneth Brooks. Burial will follow at the Mitchell Chapel Church Cemetery.
She was born in the Bronx, N.Y., youngest child of Lawrence and Joyce McCrimon. She was employed by UNC-Chapel Hill.
Surviving, other than her parents, are her daughter Janay White of the home; stepsons, Shaad Toomer of Sanford and Nicholas Douglas of the home; brothers Charles and Andre McCrimon of the Bronx, N.Y.; sisters Delsey McCrimon of Beaufort, S.C., and Tabitha McCrimon of the Bronx, N.Y.; and grandmothers Mary Helen Dark of Pittsboro and Marie Hampton of Danville, Va.
Family hour will be from 1 to 3 p.m. before the service at the church.
