SOUTHERN PINES - Charles Clinton Headen Jr., of 152 Wooster Road, died Thursday (5/29/03) in Sanford.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Harrington Chapel Free Will Baptist Church by Elder John E. Pennie Sr. and Bishop Joseph Siler. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
He is survived by a son, Jarius Rashawn Headen of Durham; mother, Harriet Headen of Aberdeen; father, Charles Clinton Headen Sr. of Southern Pines; and a sister, Vernice Lorraine Headen of Washington, D.C.
The family received friends Monday at Harrington Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and will be at Kendrick Funeral Home an hour before the service.
Arrangements are by Watson Mortuary.
JOE SMITH
APEX - Joe Smith, of 8716 Stephenson Road, died Sunday (6/1/03).
Funeral services will be held at noon Friday at True Way Holiness Church. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel Smith, at home; daughters, Eva Clark and Shirley Smith of Smithfield and Carol Williams of Apex; sons, Richard Smith, Michael Smith, Jerry Smith of Smithfield and Alan Smith of Garner; a sister, Stella Morgan of Raleigh; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lea Funeral Home.
LEWIS BUIE
BROADWAY - Funeral services for Lewis "Louie" Bailey Buie, 53, of 1450 Buie Road, who died Friday (5/30/03), were held Sunday at Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Doug Houston. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Organist was Nancy McCurry. Soloist was Gene McNeill. The Mt. Pisgah Church Choir sang.
Pallbearers were Van Buie, Paul Johnson, Gary Godfrey, Ronnie Johnson, Timmy Moore and Phillip Jones. Honorary pallbearers were the CCCC Maintenance Department, the N.C. Department of Transportation employees, WHHS Coaches and Chain Crew, WHHS girls' softball team and the McCormick Farm Hunt Club and friends.
Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
EDNA ELGIN
SANFORD - Funeral services for Edna Mae Deal Elgin, 72, of 534 Forest Ridge Drive, who died Friday (5/30/03), were held Monday at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bob Wright. Burial followed in Lee Memory Gardens.
Guitarist and soloist was Lorie Wright.
Pallbearers were Andre Knecht, Darryl Brown, Terry F. Brown, Chris Barringer, Chris Elgin and Billy Foushee.
Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

SANFORD - A memorial service for Virginia Gilliam Gladden, 99, of Sanford, who died Thursday (5/29/03), was held Sunday at Pocket Presbyterian Church by Dr. Jerry Vuncannon.
The congregation sang.
Remarks about her life were shared by Lew Thomas and Kay Gladden read "Crossing The Bar."
Pallbearers were Fred Gladden, David Gladden, Lew Thomas and Kay Gladden.
Organist was Tina Rickard.
LENZIE JOHNSON JR.
CAMERON - Funeral services for Lenzie Johnson Jr., who died Sunday (5/23/03), were held Saturday at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Larry Watson, who also read the scripture. Burial was in Green Grove Cemetery.
Mother Willie J. Upchurch gave a prayer. Nellie Person gave acknowledgments and obituary. Rev. Addie M. McCrimmon gave the eulogy.
Solo by Verna Johnson and the church choir sang. Verna Johnson was the musician.
Floral bearers were Michelle Ritter, Brenda Williams, Sherry Jackson, Whitney Williams, Deena Harrington and Kimberly Davis.
Pallbearers were Richard Harrington, Clyde Thompson, Charlie Gilmore, Dwight Williams, Robert McCrimmon and Ulysses Boatwright. Ushers were Alice P. Boatwright and Jean Person.

SANFORD - Harold Leearn "Chuck" Confair, 59, of Sanford, died Sunday, (6/1/03) at Central Carolina Hospital.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Cool Springs Baptist Church by the Rev. Ira Sutton. A private burial will follow at a later date.
Born in Clinton, Pa., Mr. Confair was a son of the late Charlie and Minnie Bruss Confair. Mr. Confair loved cars and motorcycles. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Beard Confair; daughters, Candace Confair Oldham of Angier and Brandi Nicole Confair of Sanford; grandchildren, Kyleen Clark and Matthew Farfaglia; a sister, Kyleen Clark and husband Robert of Lock Haven, Pa.; brothers, Don Bechdel and wife Beverly of Virginia Beach and Jack Bechdel and wife Dona of Bellefonte, Pa.; an aunt, Ida Belle Keller of Centre Hall, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

SANFORD - Edna Mae Deal Elgin, 72, of 534 Forest Ridge Drive, died Friday (5/30/03) at Central Carolina Hospital.
A native of Harnett County, she was the daughter of the late William Franklin Deal and Lizzie Irene Rambeau Deal, and the widow of Willie Elgin.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Wright officiating. Burial will take place at Lee Memory Gardens.
The family will receive visitations at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home from 6-7 p.m. Sunday and at other times at 534 Forest Ridge Drive.
He is survived by a son, Toby Elgin and his wife, Pat, of Lady Lakes, Fla.; daughters: Cathy Mashburn and husband, Dale, of Sanford, and Debbie Foushee, of Goldston; sister, Lucille Holland, of Sanford; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
DARRELL MCKENZIE
DUNN - Darrell Hoyle McKenzie, 74, of Buies Creek, formerly of Athens, Tenn., died Friday (5/30/03) at Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn.
A native of Meigs County Tenn., he was a son of the late William B. and Lola Jane Lewis McKenzie. He was preceded in death by his wife.
He is survived by one daughter, Connie McKenzie, of Buies Creek; one brother, a sister-in-law and several nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Sunset Cemetery in Madisonville, Tenn.
