LILLINGTON - Funeral for James B. Brown, 76, who died Thursday (5/22/03), was conducted Monday at Antioch Baptist Church by the Revs. Martin Groover and Fred Holder. Burial was in the church cemetery with Masonic rites.
Pianist was Ronnie Byrd. Organist was Janet Blackwell. Pallbearers were provided by Lillington Masonic Lodge 302 and the Harnett County Shrine Club.
Arrangements were by O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home.

SANFORD - Funeral for Mary Terrell Brown, 73, of 2432 Rocky Fork Church Road, who died Saturday (5/24/03), was conducted Monday at Jonesboro Baptist Church by Dr. David Anderson. A graveside service followed at Cumberland Union Church cemetery in Fuquay-Varina.
Organist was Joann Brickhouse. Pianist was Ronald Byrd. The congregation and the Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church choir sang.
Pallbearers were Ed Byrd, Walter Thomas, Norman Brickhouse, James Kelly, Andy Howard and Lee Patterson.
Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home handled arrangements.
THERMAN COX
SANFORD - Funeral service for Therman C. Cox of Sanford, who died Wednesday (5/21/03) was conducted Monday (5/26/03) at Love Grove AME Zion Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
The Rev. A.L. Ferguson officiated and gave the eulogy. The Love Grove Male Chorus sang. Scripture readings were given by the Rev. Chalmers McDougald and Minister Leslie Houston. Prayer of comfort was given by the Rev. Gerald Cole. Acknowledgments were read by Tommie S. Lucas. Remarks were given by Minister Ethel C. Kato.
Floral bearers were classmates and friends of the family. Ushers were Lucille Hamer, Robert Lucas, Charles Swann, Darren Davis and Ellis Davis. Pall bearers were classmates and friends of the family.

SANFORD - Graveside service for Janet Bausell Freeman, 68, of 213 Char-Lin Drive, who died Friday (5/23/03), was conducted Monday at Lee Memory Gardens by the Rev. Gene Carmack.
Pallbearers were Junior Ferrell, Jeremy Harris, Robert Morrill, Scott Morrill, Robert Birch and James Thompson.
Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

OLIVIA - Funeral service for Fred H. Peeples, who died Tuesday (5/20/03), was conducted Sunday at Benhaven Elementary School in Olivia. Burial followed in the Johnsonville community cemetery in Cameron.
Rev. T.L. Brower officiated and gave the eulogy. The Restoration Through Christ Choir sang. Soloist was Maurice McLaughlin. Elder Tyrone Street gave words of grace. Scripture reading was given by Minister Grier and Minister Ferguson. Prayer of comfort was given by Elder Joyce Taylor. Tribute sang by the Heavenly Tones. Acknowledgments and obituary were read by Lisa King.
Floral bearers were Laverne Bryant, Janice Street, Priscilla Browler, Julie McLaughlin, Karne McDougal, and Angela Akor.
Pall bearers were Maurice McLaughlin, Jarvis Jackson, Lonnie McIver, Edward Sims, Jimmy McLean, Terry McDougal, Erick Ray and Ken Cressy.

SANFORD - Graveside service for James Walker McPherson of Sanford, who died Friday (5/23/03), was conducted Sunday at Buffalo Cemetery by the Rev. George Brice.
Arrangements were by Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.
SPURGEON MOORE
GULF - Spurgeon Clarence Moore Sr., 80, of 224 Fayetteville Road, died Monday (5/26/03) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
A native of Chatham County, he was employed with Saco-Lowell and retired from New Britain Tool and Die. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and a U.S. Coast Guard veteran. He was preceded in death by a son, Spurgeon C. Moore Jr.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Janie Clark Moore; grandsons, Brian Moore and Russell Moore, both of Goldston; and great-grandchildren, Brian K. Moore, Jordyn P. Moore and Danielle N. Moore
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Bethany Baptist Church, 503 Alton King Road, by the Rev. Wayne Rigney. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 N. Second Ave., Siler City, and at other times at the family home.

THOMAS TIERNEY
SANFORD - Thomas Gerald Tierney, 78, of 517 Argyll Drive, Carolina Trace, died at his home on Memorial Day, May 26, 2003.
He was born Nov. 11, 1924, in Chicago, to Thomas James Tierney and Jeanette (Trost) Tierney.
He served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1942 and flew C-47 transport planes in the European Theater during World War II. He served in the reserves until 1957, retiring with the rank of captain.
He earned a degree in chemistry from St. Mary's College in Winona, Minn., in 1949 and an MBA from Seton Hall in New Jersey in 1986. He was employed in chemical sales with various companies, and retired as a regional sales manager after 18 years with Sandoz Colors & Chemicals in New Jersey. He was an active member of the American Chemical Society for 50 years and served on the board of directors of the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association.
His volunteer activities included serving on the board of education in Mundelein, Ill., and in recent years on the Sedgemore Property Owners Association board and on the board of governors at Carolina Trace Country Club.
Tom was an avid reader, traveler, golfer, history buff and family historian.
Tom is survived by his wife, Marjory; son, Thomas G. Tierney and daughter-in-law Barbara Coffman of Ellettsville, Ind.; daughter, Peg Tierney of Vernon Hills, Ill.; stepdaughters, Kathy Haigney of Toluca Lake, Calif., Janice Haigney of Sanford, Debra Chaplin and her children, Dawn and Wayne, of Manchester, N.H.; sisters, Jeanne Matsukis of Elgin, Ill., Betty Hasenbalg and husband Russell of Baraboo, Wis., and Maureen Jaster and husband Donald of Schaumberg, Ill.
Arrangements are pending for a memorial service at the Carolina Trace Country Club. A military funeral will be held in the Chicago area at a later date.

FLETA FLEMING
BOONVILLE - Mrs. Fleta Boyd Fleming, 88, formerly of Boonville, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2003, at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center in Elkin.
She was born Sept. 16, 1914, in Lee County to the late Archie and Ina Dell Boyd. Mrs. Fleming was a homemaker and a member of Boonville United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Phyllis Fleming Stroud; her son-in-law, Joe Stroud; four sisters, Pauline Boyd Cheek, Bessie Boyd Powers, Edna Boyd Burge and Thelma Cox; and two grandchildren.
On Dec. 24, 1932, she was married to her husband of 71 years, Henry Davis Fleming Sr., who survives of Elkin.
Also surviving are her daughters, Sue Fleming Alem of Greensboro; Jane Fleming and Given B. Webster, both of Camden, S.C.; Henry Davis and Kathy Fleming Jr. of Golden Canyon, Ariz.; a sister, Ernestine Cox Vance of Raleigh; a brother, Roy Cox of Sanford; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Her graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Boonville Cemetery by the Rev. Marion Swann. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Gentry Family Funeral Service, N.C. 601 North, Yadkinville.

RUTH BAUSELL
SANFORD - Ruth Janet Bausell, 68, of 213 Charlin Drive, died Friday (5/23/03) at Cape Fear Valley Medical Hospital.
Born in West Virginia, she was preceded in death by her parents, Garlin Winston Bausell and Katherine Palmer Bausell.
Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Lee Memory Gardens.
Surviving are a son, Marko Wilson of Salem, Va.; daughters, Lois Morgan of Mamers and Kathy Griggs and Sheena Warren, both of Sanford, and Linda Davis of Tennessee; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends following the graveside service at the cemetery.

Surviving are a brother, James Terrell of Fort Wayne, Ind., and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel Blanche Cox and Tony McLean.

Surviving are his wife, Eulah Paulette Cox, a daughter, four sons, a brother, three sisters, an aunt, three grandchildren, a great-grandchild and nieces and nephews.
