SANFORD - Funeral services for Richard Short Jr., 53, of 710 W. Main St., who died Thursday (10/2/03), were held Sunday at Holly Springs Baptist Church by the Rev. Jerry Parsons. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Organist was David Oyster. Pianist was Louise Oyster. Soloist was Richard Sistrunck.
Active pallbearers were Randy Gunter, Tommy Holder, Harold McNeill, Lemar McNeill, James Stone and Jimmy Thomas.
Honorary pallbearers were Wendell McNeill, Gene McNeill Jr., Bill Edwards, Donnie Campbell, Richard Marsh, Barney Cranford and Bob Bracken.

OLIVIA - Funeral for Julian Grayson Olive, 84, of 51 Obed Olive Road, who died Friday (10/3/03), was held Monday at Olivia Presbyterian Church by the Rev. George Walton. Personal remarks were by Billy Moran, Jeff Oldham and Russell McBryde. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pianist was Holly Borkowski. Organist was Laura Howard. Soloists were Leslie Oldham, Nikki Portillo and Julie Olive.
Active pallbearers were Grayson McBryde, Ryan McBryde, Matthew McBryde, Barry Capps, Noah Strange and Wayne Thomas.

NEWARK, N.J. - Frederick S. Barnes, 89, formerly of Sanford, died Wednesday (10/1/03) at Veterans Hospital.
A memorial service was held Friday in Newark.
He is survived by sisters, Hortense Barnes and Agnes Shannon, both of New Jersey.
Arrangements were by Watson Mortuary.

SANFORD - Julia Hairston, 81, of 1420 Tempting Church Road, died Sunday (10/5/03) at St. Joseph of the Pine in Pinehurst.

SANFORD - Myrtle Willis Riddle, 87, died Monday (10/6/03) at Central Carolina Hospital.

JOEL DODSON
SANFORD - Joel Webb Dodson, 84, of 174 Westover Drive, Sanford died Saturday (10/4/03) at Convalescent Care of Lee County.
He was born in Stokes County on July 20, 1919, the son of the late John William Albert and Nannie Elizabeth Webb Dodson.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday (10/9/03) at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Madison. Burial will follow in the Dodson family cemetery in Sandy Ridge.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ricky C. Dodson.
Surviving are two daughters, Paige D. Davis and husband Robert of Sanford, and Tammy D. Nichols and husband Brian, of Okinawa, Japan; three sons, J. Craig Dodson and wife Patti, of Sanford, Ronald B. Dodson and wife Patti, of Winston-Salem, and Joel H. Dodson of Florida; a sister, Ruth Dodson Spencer, of Lawsonville; 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in Madison. Local arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.

CARTHAGE - James G. Lambrakos, 47, of Alexandria, Va., formerly of Carthage, died Friday (10/3/03).
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a son of the late George and Sophia Katsos Lambrakos. He was a self-employed paralegal in Alexandria, Va.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Carthage United Methodist Church, by Father Chrysostom Manuel. Burial will follow at Cross Cemetery.
Surviving are a brother, Sam Lambrakos of Alexandria, Va.; and an aunt, Mary Katsos Daskal.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home in Carthage.

BROADWAY - Memorial service for Clifford Eugene Harrsch, 84, of 502 S. Main Street, Broadway, who died Thursday (10/2/03) was conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday (10/4/03) at Smith Funeral Home chapel in Broadway by the Rev. Leslie Pulley and the Rev. Slade Bend.
Soloists were Andrea Bailey and Charlie Woods, who sang "Give Me a Tender Heart," and, "In Jesus' Hands." Musician was Cindy Buchanan.

SANFORD - Memorial service for Marion Godshall Kron, 85, of 1363 Maryland Court, Carolina Trace, Sanford, who died Wednesday (10/1/03), was conducted Saturday (10/4/03) at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Keith Miller.
Organist was Linda Spivey.

MONCURE - Memorial service for Jim Dee Sanderford, 82, who died in September, was conducted recently at the Sanderford family cemetery in Clayton by the Rev. Mack Fowler.
Taped music was played.

SANFORD - Sarah Ann Fogle, 43, of Sanford, died Friday (10/3/03) at Central Carolina Hospital.
Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Second Baptist Church, Fayetteville, by the Rev. David Holloway.
Surviving are her husband, Frank W. Fogle; stepsons, Scott Fogle of Fayetteville and Travis Fogle of Jerusalem, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Sonja Fogle of Fayetteville; a daughter, Amanda E. Neal of Sanford; a son, Michael Neal of Spring Lake; sisters, Judy Strauss and Rosemary Winland, both of Barnesville, Ohio, Jesse Winland of Georgeville, Ohio, and Debbie Winland of Ravenna, Ohio; brothers, Donald Winland, Ike Winland, Jake Winland and Joe Winland, all of Barnesville, and Thomas Winland of Ravenna; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends following the service.

PITTSBORO - Berta Brafford Hill, 64, of 72 Chatham Business Park, died Friday (10/3/03) at Laurels of Chatham.
A native of Chatham County, she was a member of Providence United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the adult Sunday school class. She was retired from Kayser-Roth, Goldston.
Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home by the Rev. Ray Gooch. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Sherri H. Bradley and husband Charles of Mebane, and two grandchildren.

SANFORD - Funeral for Grover Nathan Brown, U.S. Navy retired, who died Tuesday (9/30/03), was held Friday at Rogers Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Russell Blackmon and the Rev. James McGhee. Burial, with full military honors, followed in the Cool Springs Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Patrick Collins, Brian Flynn, William Lowe, Wayne Powell, David Thommarson and Robert Werner.
