BROADWAY - Nannie Mae Lemon Smith, 87, of 18 T&S Lane, died Thursday (10/2/03) at her residence.
Born in Moore County, she was a daughter of the late Frank Lemon and Lula Cameron Lemon. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Wilson Smith.
Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Poplar Springs United Methodist Church cemetery.
Surviving are sons, James Smith of Reidsville, Thomas Smith and Rickey Smith, both of Broadway and John Charles Smith of Moncure; daughters, Mae Whitaker of Lillington and Helen Angel of Sanford; a sister, Joyce Ford of Cameron; 63 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

BROADWAY - Funeral for Nannie Mae Lemon Smith, 87, who died Thursday (10/2/03) was conducted Saturday at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Fallon Melvin. Burial followed in Poplar Springs United Methodist Church cemetery.
Organist was Emmy Creson. Soloist was Sherry Garner. Rebecca Collins, Tereasa Collins and Sherry Garner sang.
Pallbearers were J.D. Douglas, Ricky Garner, Hayden Rosser, Freddie Freeman, Michael Poe Jr., and Gerald Parten.
EDSEL SMITH
LILLINGTON - Edsel Guy Smith, 75, of Fuquay-Varina, died Thursday (10/2/03) at Rex Health Care, Raleigh.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the World War II era. He was preceded in death by his parents, Durward and Maggie Smith, and sisters, Frances Johnson and Lois Sykes.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church, Fuquay-Varina, by the Rev. John Gupton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Louise Smith; sons, Wayne Smith and wife Glinda of Fuquay-Varina and Wiley Smith of Hickory; daughters, Anita Byrum and husband Richard and Vicky Beasley and husband Thomas of Fuquay-Varina; a sister, Jeanette Williams and husband Kenneth of Fuquay-Varina; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home and at other times at the family home, 829 Lennie Smith Road, Fuquay-Varina.

FUQUAY-VARINA - Funeral service for Edsel Guy Smith, 75, who died Thursday (10/2/03) was conducted Saturday at Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church by the Rev. John Gupton. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pianist was Marsha Dorman. Vocalist was Vicky Matthews.
Pallbearers were Marty Smith, Glenn Beasley, Eric Lipscomb, Bransdon Karsen, Sherron Talton, and Gary Williams.
Funeral arrangements were by O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home.
ROSETTA HANKS
PITTSBORO - Rosetta Thomas Hanks, 84, of Pittsboro, died Wednesday (10/1/03) at the Laurels of Chatham.
She was a member of Mt. View AME Zion Church.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. View AME Zion Church, Moncure, by the Rev. Maxine Mangum. Burial will follow in Seymour Cemetery.
Surviving are a brother, George Wesley Thomas of Moncure, a sister, Elsie Thomas Morrow of Oxford, and nieces and nephews.

KENNETH LATTMANN
PINEBLUFF - Kenneth H. Lattmann, 74, of Pinebluff, father of Brenda L. Hiltz and husband Frank of Sanford, died Wednesday (10/1/03) at his residence.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until noon Saturday at Boles Funeral Home and Crematory, Southern Pines.
Also surviving are his wife of 52 years, Jayne Lattmann, a son, and two granddaughters.

LILLINGTON - Funeral for Ezra G. Freeman, 80, of Lillington, who died Monday (9/29/03), was held Thursday at Cool Springs Untied Methodist Church in Broadway by Pastor Ann Benson and Pastor Hollis Fedrick. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pianist was Geraline Griffin. Soloists were Shelby Smith and Karen Dill.
Pallbearers were Phil Kelly, Timothy Smith, Lynwood Holland, C.H. Johnson, Halford Boggs and Gary Kelly.

SANFORD - Richard Short, of Main Street, died Thursday (10/2/03) at his home.

MARION KRON
SANFORD - Marion G. Kron, beloved wife of William L. Kron, M.D., died peacefully on Oct. 1, 2003.
She and her husband retired to Carolina Trace in 1979 after residing in Roslyn, N.Y.
Born in Lansdale, Pa., she graduated from Lansdale High School. She was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of The School of Journalism at Syracuse University.
While in Roslyn, she was an active member of the Roslyn Garden Club of East Williston and several bridge clubs. She was also a past Worthy Matron of the Roslyn chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
After moving to Carolina Trace, she became an active member of two garden clubs and won several awards for her flower arrangements. Among her many interests were playing bridge in locally organized clubs, needlework and reading. She and her husband were avid travelers and participated in a cruise around the world.
She is survived by her husband, William L. Kron; son, William G. Kron and wife Gail W. Kron of Avon, Conn.; daughter, Marilyn K. Dent and husband Charles E. Dent Jr. of Derry, N.H.; three grandchildren, Kari Kron, Robert Kron and Virginia Dent and husband Alex Kahn; and a great-grandson, Jacob Kron.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at 10 a.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Keith Miller. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lee County Library, 107 Hawkins Ave., Sanford, N.C. 27330.

SALVADOR LIENDO
SANFORD - Salvador "Lee" Liendo, 70, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday (9/30/03) at Cape Fear Valley Hospital, Fayetteville.
He was a retired Master Sergeant with 30 years of service in the U.S. Army.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Miller-Boles Funeral Home by Father Tom Malloy. Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens, Fayetteville.
Surviving are a daughter, Melissa Liendo, at home; sons, Tony Liendo of Fayetteville, Jeffery Kowalzek of Cameron and Eddie Hixon of Raleigh; a sister, Alice Calderon of Santa Maria, Calif.; a brother, Emanuel Liendo of Santa Maria; and five grandchildren.
Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Miller-Boles Funeral Home.
CLIFFORD HARRSCH
BROADWAY - Clifford Eugene Harrsch, 78, of 502 S. Main St., died Wednesday (10/1/03).
He was born in Steele County, Minn., the son of the late Adolph Frank and Lucy Hasner Harrsch. He was a U.S. Marine veteran.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith Funeral Home, Broadway, by the Rev. Leslie Pulley and the Rev. Slade Blend.
Surviving are his wife, Nannie Mae Brown Harrsch; a daughter, Barbara H. Wabner of Rochester, Minn.; a son, Joe Harrsch of Eugene, Ore.; brothers, Jack Harrsch and Bruce Harrsch, both of Eugene; stepdaughters, Barbara Maddox and Cheryl Owings, both of Sanford, Linda Roper of Fuquay-Varina and Joyce Loney of Pinehurst; a stepson, Royce Ray Thomas of Mamers; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

SPRING LAKE - Army Staff Sgt. Donald Eugene Phillips, Ret., 56, of Fayetteville, died Sunday (9/28/03) at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg.
He was an Army veteran and was a member of Anderson Creek Community Church.
Chapel service will be held at 9 a.m. today at Adcock Funeral Home by the Rev. Ralph Darch. Burial will follow in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Spring Lake, with full military honors.
Surviving are his wife, Laura N. Phillips; daughters, Tonya Powell of Raleigh and Teresa Rhodes and Phyllis Johnson, both of Sanford; sons, Steven Cockran of Broadway and Sammy Nelson of Bristol, Tenn.; his mother and stepfather, Virginia and Ralph Gentry of Hickory; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
