CAMERON - Clara M. Leach, 80, of 251 Ridgeview Drive, died Sunday (11/23/03) at her residence.
Funeral will be held at 1 p.m. today at Douglas Chapel AME Church, Holly Springs. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Stanley Leach; sons, Anthony J. Leach and Stanley B. Leach Jr.; and two sisters-in-law.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

CLARENCE GILLILAND
SILER CITY - Clarence "Wormie" Gilliland, 60, of 516 East Fourth St., died Thursday (11/27/03) at Chatham Hospital.
A native of Chatham County, he was employed as parts manager with Western Auto Supply, Siler City, for 36 years. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Siler City Fire Department for 35 years and was formerly employed with Chatham Ambulance Service.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Brush Creek Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Thurman Williams.
Surviving are his wife, Christine Diggs Gilliland; sons, Dennis Franklin Ryals and wife Sandra of Mebane and Michael Wayne Binkley of Lexington; a daughter, Laura Ryals Loflin of Siler City; and eight grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home and at other times at the family residence.

PHYLLIS SHUTY
LILLINGTON - Phyllis Adair Shuty of Lillington, formerly of Pittsburgh, Pa., died Monday (11/24/03) in Sanford.
The wife of the late Andrew Shuty Jr., she was preceded in death by a grandchild.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday (12/1/03) at the H.P. Brandt Funeral Home, 1032 Perry Highway, Pittsburgh, Pa. Burial will be in Allegheny County Memorial Park, 1600 Duncan Ave., Allison Park, Pa.
Surviving are sons, Richard Ekey and wife Judy of Pittsburgh, and James Ekey and wife Bonnie of Merritt Island, Fla.; daughters, Ann Von Hofen of Sylva, Linda Sunderman of Lillington, and Michelle Webb and husband James of Lillington; a stepson, Andrew Shuty and wife Sandy of Pittsburgh; sisters, Patty Smith of California and Joan Waters of Pittsburgh; and 15 grandchildren.
GERALD HOBBS
BUNNLEVEL - Gerald Frederick Hobbs, 82, of Bunnlevel, died Tuesday (11/25/03) at Betsy Johnson Hospital, Dunn.
He was a lifelong farmer in the Bunnlevel community. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and clerk. He was a former member of the Harnett County School Board, and a former employee of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Friendship Baptist Church, Bunnlevel, by the Rev. Paul Fowler. Burial will follow in Bunnlevel Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Annie Rose Carter Hobbs; sons, Rodney F. Hobbs and wife Roxanne of Pawleys Island, S.C., G. Emery Hobbs and wife Cathy and Marion B. Hobbs and wife Ann, all of Bunnlevel, and Alan C. Hobbs and wife Cheryl of Bassett, Va.; and six grandchildren.

ERNEST DARK
PITTSBORO - Ernest Hamilton "Splookie" Dark, 79, of 205 Dianne Street, died Tuesday (11/25/03) at his residence.
He was the son of the late Caroline Dark. He was raised by his late aunt and uncle, Mattie and Ralph Alston.
He was a 1939 graduate of Horton High School and earned a bachelor's degree, with honors, from North Carolina A&T State University in 1943 at the age of 19. He was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. He attended graduate school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina Central University.
He taught school at Horton High School. He also served as athletic director, class adviser and football and baseball coach. He also taught at Northwood High School from 1970-1984. While there, he served as athletic director, chairman of the math department, a driver's education instructor and football and baseball coach.
He was the basis for the character Everett Dawson in the book "Black Teachers on Teaching," written by Michele Foster.
He was a member of Mt. Sinai AME Church and served as pro-tem of the steward board for more than 40 years, superintendent of the Sunday school for more than 20 years, and class leader, Sunday school teacher and senior choir member.
He was a part-time volunteer with Upward Bound until his retirement, when he became a full-time curriculum coordinator. They founded a scholarship in his name
He was given the Richard Caswell Award in 1998 by the state of North Carolina in honor of his 42 years of service to North Carolina.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Sinai AME Church, Pittsboro.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Clara Burnette Dark; children, Ernest Jr. and wife Helen, John Eugene and Mattie Caroline and husband Stanley; two aunts, six grandchildren, a great-grandchild, a godson, and nieces and nephews.

ESTON CRAVEN
SILER CITY - Eston Eugene Craven, 64, of 905 Sedgefield Drive, died Wednesday (11/26/03) at his residence.
A native of Randolph County, he was a member of Brush Creek Baptist Church and was a musician who played with various groups.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brush Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Patrick Fuller and the Rev. Randy Queen. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are daughters, Lynn C. Lamb and Vicky C. Klund, both of Pittsboro, Cindy C. Gaines of Bonlee and Diane C. Strickland of Benson; his caregiver, Mary Craven Maldonado of Siler City; his mother, Edna Stout Craven of Siler City; sisters, Ruth C. Clark of Ramseur and Shirley C. Foushee of Siler City; six grandchildren and a great-grandson.

MICHAEL MCMASTER
SILER CITY - Michael McMaster Sr., 49, of 543 Stockyard Road, died Tuesday (11/25/03) at his residence.
He was employed with Pinnacle Masonry for more than 20 years. He was a member of Olivers Chapel AME Zion Church.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Olivers Chapel AME Zion Church by Pastor Wilson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Rogers McMaster; children, LaTonia McMaster of Winston-Salem and Michael McMaster Jr., at home; sisters, Jessie McMaster, Betty Peoples and husband Billy, and Ruth McMaster, all of Staley, and Wanda Andrews and husband Ricky of Ramseur; brothers, Joe McMaster of Staley and Nathan McMaster and wife Marsha of Liberty; and a godson.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.

VIVIAN ROLLINS
SILER CITY - Vivian Davis Rollins, 85, of Siler City, died Sunday (11/23/03).
Born April 7, 1918, in Siler City, she was a daughter of the late Charley and Lillie Davis. She was preceded in death by her brother, Harold Davis.
She was a patient of Carriage Hill Nursing Center for six months, suffering from Alzheimer's disease. She had resided at Chancellor Village in Fredericksburg, Va.
Graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Rocky River Friends Meeting House cemetery.
Surviving are a son, Harold Coward of King George, Va.; a daughter, Sarah Clark Steelye of Darien, Conn.; her longtime companion, Charles Rainey of Colonial Beach, Va.; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three nieces and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

SANFORD - Funeral for Amy Lori Davis Yoder, 39, of 2804 Sandy Creek Church Road, who died Sunday (11/23/04), was held Wednesday at Cool Springs Baptist Church by the Rev. Ira Sutton and the Rev. Mark Meadows. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Soloist was Lisa Godwin. Pianist was Andra Coleman. Organist was Frances Phillips. The congregation sang.
Pallbearers were Lee Davis, Gary Davis, Tyler Davis, Marc Davis, Matt Davis, Chris Davis, Chester Davis and Frank Corns.
Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
JOSEPH BARNHARDT
SANFORD - Joseph Cooper Barnhardt, 80, of Sanford, died Tuesday (11/25/03) at Central Carolina Hospital.
A native of Forsyth County, he was a son of the late George and Viola Barnhardt. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Barnhardt, and a son, Rodney D. Willey. He was a member of the Sanford Lions Club and was a World War II veteran.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Boles Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Buffalo Cemetery.
Surviving are a son, Thomas M. Willey of Laurel, Md.; a sister, Jessie Cagle of Raleigh; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
