R.D. SMITH
SILER CITY - R.D. Smith, 64, of 1885 Silk Hope Road, died Sunday (11/23/03) at Chatham Hospital.
A native of Chatham County, he was a member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. He was a retired electrician with Chatham Electric. He was preceded in death by his parents, Javan and Annie Bare Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church by the Rev. Lamont Hemminger and the Rev. Michael Smith. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Guthrie Smith; daughters, Michelle Smith and husband David of Snow Camp, and Debbie Ingle and Wanda Stuart of Siler City; a sister, Betty Crews of Kernersville; brothers, Jesse Earl Smith and wife Frances, June Smith and wife Elaine and Joe Smith and wife Virginia, all of Siler City; two grandsons and a great-granddaughter.
The family will receive friends at the family home.

GLENN BIRDSONG
FAYETTEVILLE - Glenn Birdsong, of 719 Southview Circle, died Thursday (11/20/03) at Bladen County Hospital.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Body of Christ Church by the Rev. Larry Ray. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.
He is survived by his parents, Charles and Carrie Prince of Fayetteville; a sister, Jennifer Santos and husband Shannon of Fayetteville; and grandparents, Frances Ray and Sherman Ray of Sanford.
The family will receive friends at the home.

CAMERON - Funeral service for Archie Wade Chesney, 60, of 12 Connecticut Way, who died Sunday (11/16/03), was held Saturday at Watson Mortuary by the Rev. Gerome Williams. Burial followed in the Tempting Church cemetery.
Old and New Testament readings by the Rev. Billy Richmond. Prayer and eulogy by the Rev. Gerome Williams. Acknowledgments and obituary were by Maggie Newby.
Eulogy by the Rev. Gerome Williams. Justice Griffin sang a solo.
Floral bearers were Nina Verbal, Emma Bester and Maggie Newby.
Pallbearers were Williams McIver, Thomas Battle, Floyd Graham and Glenn Roberts.

LILLINGTON - Funeral for Mary Norris Collins, 56, of Lillington, who died Thursday (11/20/03), was held Saturday at O'Quinn-Peebles Chapel by the Rev. Ken Dalton.
Burial followed in Harnett Memorial Park.
Pianist was Gladys Woodall. Pallbearers were Tim Baker, Jason Norris, Jessie Norris, Kevin Norris, Tracy Collins and Vance Turlington.
TINY MAE MAYNOR
SANFORD - Funeral services for Tiny Mae Maynor, 78, of Sanford, who died Thursday (11/20/03), were held Saturday at Rogers Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Roger Stein and the Rev. Michael Boyette.
Bruce and Debbie Lineberry sang.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Hogan, Tracey Maynor, Christopher Maynor, Eric Maynor, Tommy Maynor and Jonathon Maynor. Larry Smith was honorary pallbearer.
GENEVA PARKHAM
SANFORD - Graveside services for Geneva Parham, 88, of Naples, Fla., and formerly of Sanford, who died Friday (11/14/03), were held Saturday at the Palmer family cemetery by the Rev. Franklin Lloyd.
Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Joan Pate
Carthage - Joan Matthews Pate, 63, of 511 Dowd St., died Saturday (11/22/03) at home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. James C. Baldwin and the Rev. Daryl Stancil. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
A native of Moore County, she was a daughter of the late Jethro and Jesse Goins Matthews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Pate and a brother, Robert Matthews. She worked as a nurse's aide at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital several years ago.
She is survived by daughters Tonya Pate, Sandra Pate and Sharon Pratt, all of Carthage; sisters Mildred Hooker of Carthage and Bernice Jordan of Washington, D.C.; a half-sister, Yvonne Williams of Chicago; brother Jethro Matthews of Carthage and five grandchildren.
A wake will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home in Carthage.

Sanford - A graveside service for Pauline "Polly" Wood Bednarski, 84, of Mulberry, Fla., who died on Nov. 6, was conducted Saturday at Buffalo Cemetery by the Rev. David Banks. Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
Daisy Rouse
Sanford - Funeral for Daisy Price Rouse, 87, of 2129 Eveton Lane, who died Wednesday (11/19/03), was conducted Saturday at East Sanford Baptist Church by the Rev. Steve Ray and the Rev. Garland Foushee. Burial followed in Buffalo Cemetery.
Organist was Susan Keith. The choir and the congregation sang.
Pallbearers were Mike Daurity, Mark Daurity, Joey Daurity, Bradley Patterson, Steven Daurity and Jimmy Daurity.
Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

Sanford - A memorial service for Charles Wallace "Wally" Bechtel, 53, of Lucedale, Miss., who died Nov. 16, was conducted Saturday at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home by the Rev. Billy Crabtree. Eulogy was by Lowell Hamel and brothers Bill and Michael Bechtel.
Soloist was Sherry Pruette. Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
AVEN ALSTON
PITTSBORO - Aven Alston, 81, of 63 Adolph Taylor Road, died Thursday (11/20/03) at his residence.
He was a member of Mitchell's Chapel Church. He was a Tech 5 with the U.S. Army.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Mitchell's Chapel Church by the Rev. Kenneth Brooks. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Knotts Funeral Home of Pittsboro.
DAVID WICKER
SILER CITY - David Earl Wicker, 60, of 2754 Flint Ridge Road, died Thursday (11/20/03) at the V.A. Hospital in Durham.
A native of Chatham County, he was an Army veteran of Vietnam. He was a farmer.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, by the Rev. Paul Shrum. Burial will follow in Flint Ridge United Methodist Church cemetery.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Lorena E. Wicker of Siler City, a nephew and a great-nephew.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Maurice Wicker, 548 R.C. Overman Road, Siler City.
HANK WILSON
SILER CITY - Hank Wilson, 67, of 63 Hanks Drive, died Thursday (11/20/03) at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.
A native of Chatham County, he was a member of Rocky River Baptist Church, where he was a member of the men's Bible Sunday school class and chairman of the grounds committee. He was the retired owner and operator of Hank's TV.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rocky River Baptist Church by the Rev. Greg W. Burriss. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are daughters, Crystal W. Lindley of Siler City, Sylvia W. Worsham of Acworth, Ga., Judy W. Chriscoe of West End, and Rita W. Calhoun of Southern Pines; brothers, Roland Wilson and Bobby Wilson, both of Goldston; sisters, Beatrice W. Brewer of Bennett and Shirley W. Rives of Bear Creek; and eight grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Crystal W. Lindley, 256 Fellowship Church Road, Siler City.
