GEORGE WILLIAMS
SANFORD - George F. Williams, of Carolina Beach, formerly of Sanford, died Monday (5/31/04).
He served in World War II in the U.S. Navy. He was a graduate of Mars Hill College and obtained a master's degree from Western Carolina University. He did post-graduate work at UNC-CH and Duke. He was a high school teacher, coach and principal and served as superintendent in Anson, Brunswick and Orange counties. Until his retirement several years ago, he was a sales representative for Williams Seating Co. in Siler City.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Hewitt.
Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Rogers Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Steven Hall. Burial will follow in Lee Memory Gardens.
He is survived by a daughter, Karen Frey and husband Ted of Kill Devil Hills; sons, Michael George Williams of Currituck, Russell Williams of Sherrills Ford and Ted Williams and wife Melody of Denver; brothers, Joe Williams and wife Mary of Oakboro and Olin Williams and wife Judy of Hilton Head; six grandchildren, and companion Nell Hunnicutt.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday prior to the funeral.

JAMES VANCE
SANFORD - James Arthur Vance, 70, of 2514 Meadow Lane View, died Monday (5/31/04) at Central Carolina Hospital.
Born in Fayette County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles Vance and Mabel Keenan Vance. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and from Moen.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church by the Rev. Gerald Bridges and the Rev. Nate Leonard. Burial will be in Cool Springs Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are wife, Jo Ann Cogar Vance; a son, Roger Dale Vance and wife Linda of Sanford; daughters, Christi Vance Wallace and husband Bill of Sanford and Cindy Vance McDougald and husband Kevin of Lillington; brothers, Daniel Vance of Dixie, W.Va., and Eddie Vance of Dennison, Ohio; sisters, Norma Kincaid of Bradley, W.Va., Wanda Murphy of Hugheston, W.Va., Pauline Fish of Boomer, W.Va., Carmen Price of North Glenn, Colo., Mary Hill of Sanford and Brenda See of Handley, W.Va.; and nine grandchildren.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church McDowell Hall.

MINNIE JEFFRIES
SANFORD - Minnie Jeffries, 80, of 1362 Farrell Road, died Tuesday (6/1/04) at her home.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Gee's Grove A.M.E. Zion Church in Siler City. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She is survived by daughters, Mada Jefferies-White and husband Harry and Sheila Jefferies, all of Sanford; sons, Sidney Jefferies and Rex Jefferies and wife Tara, all of Sanford; sisters, Lurlene Black and Faye Borders, both of Blacksburg, S.C.; a brother, Deroy Parker of Blacksburg, S.C.; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
SARAH MOSLEY
PITTSBORO - Sarah E. Mosley, 79, died Saturday (5/29/04) at Sunbridge Rest Home in Siler City.
Born Feb. 21, 1925, she was the daughter of Johnny and Saran Mosley of Chatham County and the wife of Thomas L. Mosley. She joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Moncure at the age of 10. In 1955 she joined Missionary First Baptist Church in Pittsboro.
She was preceded in death by her foster son, James Donnell Murphy.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Larry Siler. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Park in Siler City.
Surviving are her foster son's wife, Delores Murphy of Fayetteville; a stepson, Walter Leon Rone of Pittsboro; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

POLLY FRY
CARTHAGE - Polly Helsabeck Fry, 89, of McNeill Street, died Tuesday (6/1/04) at Pinelake Health and Rehabilitation Center.
A native of Montgomery County, she was a daughter of the late Wyatt W. and Lula Henry Helsabeck. She was the widow of Carlos Fry and had retired as the bookkeeper at the Moore County ASCS office.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Carthage United Methodist Church by the Rev. Terry Huffines. Burial will follow in Cross Hill Cemetery.
Surviving are brothers, Roscoe W. Helsabeck of Morehead City and Wyat Helsabeck of Port Charlotte, Fla.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home.

RALPH GUTHRIE
HILLSBOROUGH - Ralph Buren "R.B." Guthrie, 85, died Saturday (5/29/04) at Hospice at the Meadowlands.
Born in Dudley Shoals on Sept. 17, 1918, he was a son of the late Tonley and Jean Deal Guthrie. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Rachel Brothers Guthrie. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, a long-term member of the board of trustees at Central Carolina Community College, and a retired general manager of Raeford Trucking.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke United Methodist Church by the Rev. Carl Frazier. Burial will follow in Buffalo Cemetery.
Surviving are sons, Ray Guthrie of Woodbridge, Va., Linwood Guthrie of Morganton, Robert Guthrie of Albemarle and Stuart Guthrie of Durham; brothers, Wiley C. Guthrie of Clemmons, Norman Guthrie of Burnsville and Bert Guthrie of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

VIRGIL NALLEY
CAMERON - Virgil Leon Nalley, 67, of 129 Old N.C. 87, died Sunday (5/30/04) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital.
Born in Rock Hill, S.C., he was the son of the late William Walker Nalley and Grady Moore Nalley. He was a retired U.S. Air Force sergeant and was employed as a printer with Jones Printing Co.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hillmon Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Max Eller and the Rev. Sandy Marks. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are wife, Ruby Bingham Nalley; a son, Brian K. Nalley of Cameron; daughters, Karen Nalley of Cameron, Lisa Tollevsen and husband John of Olivia and Kimberly Nalley of Cameron; brothers, Fred Nalley, Charles Nalley, Marvin Nalley, Donald Nalley and Thurston Nalley, all of Rock Hill, S.C., and Billy Nalley of Shreveport, La.; and a sister, Molly Dickerson of Columbia S.C.

JAMES LANCE
BROADWAY - James Dale Lance, 61, of Broadway, died Sunday (5/30/04) at Pinecrest Gardens Rest Home in Lillington.
Born Oct. 27, 1943 in Ivydale, W.Va., he was the son of the late Carl Lance and Marie Tanner Lance. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired grocery store manager.
Graveside service will be held at a later date at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Wallback, W.Va.
Surviving are sons, James Dale Lance Jr. and Keith Lance, both of Melbourne, Fla., and sisters, Doris Summers of Wallback, W.Va. and Kay Turner of Broadway.

EARTHALANE CLARK
DUNN - Earthalane Clark, 87, of 711 Susan Tart Road, formerly of Lillington, died Saturday (5/29/04) at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lillington Star Reformed Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will be in Resthaven cemetery in Dunn.
Surviving are a son, Clarence Ferguson and wife Florence of Bunnlevel; several nieces and nephews, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Public viewing will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Dafford Funeral Home in Angier.
VIOLA McCRIMMON
VASS - Funeral for Viola McLeod McCrimmon, 89, of 305 Pats Road, who died Friday (5/25/04), was held Friday at Frye's Chapel FWB Church in Vass by Elder Kent McMillian, Pastor. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Deacon Arthur Frye and Deacon James L. Chalmers gave Scripture readings. Elder Kent L. McMillian gave a prayer. Acknowledgments were given by Diane Gilchrist.
Floral bearers and pallbearers were friends of the family.
