DEWEY FUSSELL
APEX - Dewey Charles Fussell, 72, of 111 Hunter Street, Apex, died Thursday (5/27/04) at Wake Medical Center in Cary.
Born in Pender County on August 21, 1931, he was son of the late Barry M. and Myrtle Teachey Fussell. He was a member of the Apex Baptist Church and owner of Fussell Tires in Apex.
Funeral will be held Friday at Apex Baptist church by the Rev. Phil Qualls and the Rev. Kyle Kopus. Burial will follow in the Apex town cemetery.
Surviving are wife, Betty C. Fussell of the home; a daughter, Wanda F. Roo.
BARBARA GOODWIN
PITTSBORO - Barbara Jean Turner Goodwin, 69, of Roberson Creek Drive, died Tuesday (5/25/04) at home after an extended illness.
A homemaker, she enjoyed camping and travel, working in her flower gardens, and her boxer dogs. She was a member of the Senior Jubilee Choir and the Moncure Baptist Church Choir. She served as church financial secretary for many years.
She was preceded in death by her father, Manton Turner; her grandmother, Blanche Ford; and a son, David Alton Goodwin Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, David Goodwin, at home; a son, Tommy Goodwin and wife Tammy of Graham; a brother, Bill Turner and wife Barbara of Raleigh; her mother, Dorothy Thomas and husband Paul of Raleigh; a half-sister, Paula Ellington and husband Jay of Raleigh; and two granddaughters
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Griffin Funeral Home with the Rev. Andy McPherson and the Rev. Matt Garrett. Interment will follow in Chatham Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

DELWIN NURNBERG
CAMERON - Delwin Lawrence Nurnberg, 64, of Cameron, died Tuesday (5/25/04) at his home.
He retired from the U.S. Navy as a cryptologist and later worked with Moen in Sanford for many years.
The family will hold a private service.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Colburn Nurnberg; a son, Mitch Nurnberg and wife Ronna of Grand Island, Neb.; daughters, Cindy Wall and husband Frank of Raleigh, Lori Hairr of Cameron, JoAnn Reynolds and husband Davis of Cameron and Shannon Black and husband Rae of Carthage; mother, Hilda Weber Jones of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Leroy Nurnberg and wife Kathryn of Cameron; sisters, Ileen Neuzert and husband Gaby and Betty Lewin, all of Golden, Colo.; and 10 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of Davis and JoAnn Reynolds, 668 Dalrymple Road, from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

ALICE SEAGROVES
VASS - Alice Blanche Brooks Seagroves, 71, of 5091 Lobelia Road, died Tuesday (5/25/04) at her home.
Born in Southern Pines, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Hobson Brooks and Mary Myrtle Morrison Brooks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Lewis Seagroves, and a son, Anthony Lewis Seagroves. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church and served on the board of Crain's Creek Fire Department for 10 years.
Service will be held at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church at 3 p.m. Saturday by Dr. Greg Poplin. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are a son, David Seagroves of Anchorage, Ala.; a daughter, Mary Anne Seagroves of Vass; a sister, Mary B. McFadyen of Vass; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

VASS - Viola M. McCrimmon, 89, of 305 Pats Road, died Tuesday (5/25/04) at St. Joseph of the Pines.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Fryes Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are a son, James O. McCrimmon of Vass; a brother, Theodore McLeod of Vass; eight grandchildren three great-grandchildren and a daughter-in-law.

SANFORD - Virginia Mae McLeod, 70, of 334 Grant St., died Monday (5/24/04) at UNC Hospital.
Funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Works For Christ Christian Center. Burial will follow in Lee Memory Gardens.
Surviving are a daughter, Karen E. McLeod of Sanford, and sisters, Emma L. Thompson and Ethel Petty.
The family will receive friends at the home of Ethel Petty at 512 Ryan Ave., Sanford.

HIGH POINT - Leslie Freeman Tipton, 54, of 3206 Wellingford Drive, died Tuesday (5/25/04) at home.
Funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Sechrest Funeral Chapel on East Lexington Avenue by Katherine Moore.
His wife, Kathleen "Kathy" Malone, survives; local survivors include Larry Tipton and his wife Sue of Broadway.
The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home.

VIOLA THOMPSON
SILER CITY - Funeral for Viola C. Thompson, who died Thursday (5/20/04), was held Monday at First Missionary Baptist Church in Siler City by the Rev. Barry R. Gray.
Acknowledgments were given by Martha Gray. The Rev. Barry R. Gray was the soloist and gave the eulogy.
Floral bearers and pallbearers were friends of the family.
