Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran and the owner and operator of J. W. Trucking until retirement.
Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Ferrell of Hickory; four sons, Mickey Wilfong, and Dustin Wilfong, both of Vale, and David Wilfong and Terry Wilfong, both of Newton; a
sister, Mary Viola Wilfong of Lake Panasoffkee; a step-brother, Joe Shuford of Lincolnton; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Born in Durham, he worked for U.S. Airways until retirement and was a member of Grey Stone Baptist Church.
