Born in Lincoln County, he was the former supervisor and fixer for N.C. Spinning Mill, and was employed with House of Pizza and Lincoln House Restaurant.
Survivors include two sons, Alfred Cobb Jr. of Greensboro and Albert M. Cobb of Maiden; two daughters, Sharon A. Sims and Cassandra K. Cobb, both of Greensboro; two brothers, Lonnie Cobb Sr. and James Cobb Sr., both of Lincolnton; two sisters, Vera Russell of Lincolnton and Hattie Herndon of Charlotte; and nine grandchildren.

Gaither Leroy Lawing, 84, of 1122 West Highway 150, died Aug. 21, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel at Warlick Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at the funeral home.
Born in Lincoln County, he was employed with J.P. Stevens for 39 years until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Mallie G. Lawing; two sons, Howard Lawing and Butch Lawing, both of Lincolnton; two daughters, Brenda Pearce of Denver and Ruth Little of Lincolnton; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Charles Whisnant
IRON STATION - Charles “Slim” Dennis Whisnant, 64, of 223 McMillan Heights Road, died Aug. 18, 2002. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Born in Cleveland County, he was an electrician for Mohican Mills.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Jean Whisnant; a son, Phillip Pruitt of Lawndale; a daughter, Sharon Byers of the home; two brothers, R.J. Whisnant of Vale and Lester Whisnant of California; four sisters, Katherine Carpenter and Patsy Johnson, both of Terrell, Mary Kale of Shelby, and Dorothy Chapman of Vale; and three grandchildren, Phillip Pruitt Jr., Bridget Byers, and Kristen Byers.

CHERRYVILLE - Allen Sellers, 67, of 3321 Tryon Courthouse Road, died Aug. 20, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Cherryville, where he was a member. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Baptist Church cemetery. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
Born in Gaston County, he was a mechanic for 42 years with Carolina Freight Carriers until retirement. He was a Third Degree Master Mason, Lodge 505 of Cherryville, Scottish Rites, and Shriner’s Oasis Temple of Charlotte.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth “Lib” Hewett Sellers; three daughters, Debbie Patterson and Donna Prince, both of Kings Mountain, and Terrie Jarrett of Clemson, S.C.; one brother, B.T. Sellers Jr. of Cherryville; a sister, Betty Black of Cherryville; six grandchildren, Heather Patterson Payne, Jennifer Patterson, Brittany Prince, Haley Prince, Caroline Jarrett, and Ashley Jarrett; and one great-grandchild.

Born in Lincoln County, he was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, and served in the U.S. Airforce during WWII. He was employed with Marvin Beam Ford of Cherryville until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Mozelle McCurry Tallent; a daughter, June Mull of Lawndale; three sisters, Betty Mosteller and Edna Tallent, both of Morganton, and Helen Tallent of Lenoir, and two grandchildren, Sherry Jensen and Joe Mull.
Louise Clark
Louise Reynolds Clark, 83, of the Brian Center, formerly of 397 Old Lincolnton Crouse Road, died Aug. 23, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Southside Baptist Church. Born in Lincoln County, she assisted families as a sitter for the sick and elderly.

Born in Guilford County, she attended First Presbyterian Church in Cherryville, and worked as a private duty nurse until retirement.

Born in Clay County, he was a U.S. Army veteran and of the Baptist faith. He was employed as head dyer with a hosiery mill in Hickory.
