MAIDEN — Fred Lee Hewitt Jr., of Union Street, died Aug. 26, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Cornerstone Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in Maiden City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 until 8:30 at Burke Mortuary.
Born in Catawba County, he was a member of the Maiden Masonic Lodge #592, Woodmen of the World, and was retired from the textile industry.
Survivors include his wife, Alma Parker Hewitt; a daughter, Dianne Guy of Rocky Mount; two brothers, David Hewitt and Larry Hewitt, both of Newton; two grandchildren, Marcus Guy and Shawn Guy; and three great-grandchildren.
Christine Thompson
SHELBY — Christine Lattimore Thompson, 69, of 210 Maple Street, died Aug. 25, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Good Samaritan Fellowship Church. Burial will follow in Webb Memorial Lawns. The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a member of Vision Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Adolphus Thompson Jr. of Dayton, Ohio; six daughters, Debra Poston, Tita Thompson, Carolyn Thompson, Teney Thompson, Vera Thompson, and Denise Thompson, all of Shelby; a brother, Charles Lattimore of Cherryville; four sisters, Lorine Link of Hickory, Ruby Watts of Vale, Mattie J. Evans of Lincolnton, and Edie Bowden of Cherryville; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

HICKORY — Mackie Reinhardt, 46, of 1220 8th Avenue, formerly of Maiden, died Aug. 24, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Goodin-Drum Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Maiden Chapel Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Born in Catawba County, he was a member of Mt. Olive Holiness Church, and worked as a rip saw operator for Broyhill Furniture in Newton.
Survivors include a son, Jeremy Dula of Hickory; a daughter, Jessica Reinhardt of Hickory; three brothers, Nathan Reinhardt and John Reinhardt, both of Maiden, and Eddie Reinhardt of Kings Mountain; and two sisters, Terry Reinhardt of Maiden and Jennie McRae of Charlotte.
Mabel Leonhardt
CHERRYVILLE — Mabel C. Leonhardt, 75, of 2588 Leonhardt Road, died Aug. 26, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Bess Chapel United Methodist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8:30 at Carpenter’s Funeral Home.
She retired from Lincoln County Hospital and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.
Survivors include two daughters, Burlene Eaker and Janelle Cook, both of Cherryville; three sons, Doyle Leonhardt, Jack Leonhardt, and Jamie Leonhardt, all of Cherryville; a sister, Mary Jane Knight of Cherryville; five grandchildren, Alisa Eaker, Teressia Glover, Stacey Leonhardt, Kevin Leonhardt, and Angela Leonhardt; and two great-grandchildren.

GASTONIA — Joseph Wendell “Catfish” Cunningham, 48, of 319 Apartment E. Osceola Road, formerly of Lincolnton, died Aug. 26, 2002. Born in Cleveland County, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked as an auto repairman.

Cunningham of Gastonia; three daughters, Angel Cunningham of Fort Jackson, S.C., Chanda Carter of Charlotte, Josha Cunningham of Gastonia; his mother, Evangelist Essie Cunningham of Lincolnton; a brother, Billy Cunningham of Shelby; three sisters, Rev. Harven Crouse
Harven Alexander Crouse, 81, of 2390 Startown Road, died Aug. 28, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Marvin United Methodist Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
Born in Lincoln County, he was employed as a law enforcement officer for 28 years, and retired as Lincoln County Sheriff. An Army engineer in WWII, he was a member of Kiwanis, VFW, American Legion, and DAV.
Survivors include his wife, Norean A. Crouse; and a son, Harven A. Crouse Jr. of Ft. Pierce, Fla.

Born in Lincoln County, he was employed with Overnight Transportation for almost 28 years.
Survivors include his daughter, Faye Wright of Vale; a sister, Myrtle Pendleton of Lincolnton; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
