Born in Cherokee County, he was a self-employed painter and a member of Gloryland Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Causby Young of the home; three sons, Darren Jones and Darrell Jones of Maiden and Randy Jones of Shelby; one daughter, Peggy Goble of Morganton; three brothers, Roy Young of Oregon, Willard Young of Hickory and Delano Young of Newton; one sister, Charlene Canipe of Maiden and seven grandchildren.
Denver Shuler
Denver Shuler, 67, of 185 Country Way Drive, died August 11, 2003. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain Rest Cemetery. Burial will follow. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. prior to the service at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.
Born in Swain County, he was a retired machinist from Wix Dana Corporation.
Survivors include one step-daughter, Diana Taylor of Westlake, Louisiana and two grandsons, Brian William and Rebecc Bosley.

Born in Lincoln County, he was retired from Travis Dye Mills.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Little Yoder; two sons, Larry Yoder of Taylorsville and Harold Yoder of Taylor, SC; one daughter, Dalphine Mosteller of Vale and seven grandchildren, Alex Yoder, Julia Godwin, Brian Vaughan, Alex Godwin, Misty Yoder, Heather Witt and Jonathan Mosteller.

Nancy Berryhill
Nancy Self Berryhill, 63, of 386 Berryhill-Reed Lane, died August 14, 2003. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at Cone Memrial Chapel of Carpenters Funeral Home. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery.
Born in Gaston County, she was employed by Trend-Line Furniture Company in the Upholster Department and was a member of Macedonia PH Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Berryhill of the home; one son, Rev. Tim Lane of Walnut Cove; one daughter, Vicky Acevedo of Vale; one step-daughter, Melinda Reed of Lincolnton; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Born in Monroe, Mich., she was the owner and operator of Pam’s Sub Shop.

CHERRYVILLE — William Jasper Kinlow, 77, of 408 S. Mulberry St., died August 14, 2003. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Hill Baptist Church, where he was a member. Born in Gaston County, he was retired from Sloan Kettering Cancer Hospital as a cook and was a member of First Strait Gate Church in NY where he was Deacon and a Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Kinlow of the home; two step-sons, Derrick Bradford of Valdese and Lewis Bradford of New Rochelle, NY; one brother, Robert Kinlow of Waco; five sisters, Georgia Jefferies of Cherryville, Willis Mae Cumberlander of Waco, Ella Cunningham of Lincolnton, Katherine Bolder of Greensboro and Curlee Clemons of Statesville.

VALDESE — Jasper Pinkney “J.P.” Drum, 86, of Janavel Ave., died August 17, 2003. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christ United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Military honors were conducted at the church by American Legion Post 234. Burial with Masonic Rites followed in Spruce Pine City Cemetery.
Born in Catawba County, he was a WWII U.S. Army veteran, a retired employee of Duke Power, a member of the Lovelady Masonic Lodge 670 and a shriner.
Survivors include his wife, Miriam Monroe “Bayo” Drum of the home; one son, Kenneth Drum of Denver; two grandchildren, Kenneth Drum Jr. and Kathy Jolley; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Alvin Drum of Maiden and two sisters, Stella Lineberger of Cramerton and Eulalah Williams of Maiden.
